I might be wrong but you can request a coupon for the purpose of a giveaway if they are about to expire. The only issue is that it has to be for the group only, but I understand why it has the rule.

I understand the need for certain rules, but I must agree that they are too restrictive. As it stands you can't ask for one to buy a surprise gift for a friend or family member for example, which I like to do every now and then. When people donated the coupons in the first place they probably just figured why let them go to waste and didn't care about who they went to or setting any kind of restrictions on them, so something about it just seems a bit off in my opinion.

I'm not going to discuss our rules on here so much, but I just want to explain that the restriction towards friends/family was a rather recent one. For the longest time we allowed that kind of "3rd party requests", but then we found out that most of those were used to exploit the rules and the coupons were indeed used for trading, and not given to friends for free as stated.
Because we can't possibly decide whether someone is really your friend or brother, and since we can't be making exceptions for one person, but not for another, we chose to block out that option for everyone.
For cases like that we left in the "From Members To Members" thread, which is not curated by our group mods except for rule that all coupons offered there must be for free. What you do with the coupons you get there shall be none of our concern. On the other hand it's the responsibility of the "vendor" to explain whether they want their coupons only used for personal use.
Also for your other point, with a lot of coupon donations we get little messages and notes stating that those people indeed only donate to us because we have that strict rule set, and because we actively forbid coupon trading in the group or forbid trying to gain any other profit from them for that matter. If we wouldn't, we wouldn't be any different than most other trading groups. This way we built a really strong base of regular donators, which is most valuable for us as you can imagine.

When I joined this group, I had used up more coupons then I gave away. The discounts are incredible. :)

Some of you might already know us, but for those of you who don't, please let me introduce the Coupon Dumpster Group to you:
Founded in August 2013, the group provides the service of collecting, listing and giving out steam coupons for free. You can donate your unwanted coupons to us and we will in return give them to those people who wish to use them.
We also often hold giveaways and other events in order to thank our generous donators and to keep the group active outside the coupon business side of things.
Again, neither the group as a whole, nor the individual moderators gain any kind of profit from this work. We do this for fun in our free time, so the only thing we expect from our members is that you read our Rules and Guidelines before requesting a coupon or posting around the group in general. We take great pride in our clean forums and comment sections, and we want it to stay that way for our own and your sake just as well.
