I'm after a keyboard, but I want to go for a real silent keyboard. I'm using the Destiny 2 Ornata, and to me, its still loud.
What do you think is the most silent keyboard?

If that is loud for you, then I guess these types are your only option left:

You should look out for mechanical keyboards that use Cherry MX Silent switches. The Corsair Strafe is a solid, albeit expensive choice, but there are cheaper models.
That said, the Ornata is already pretty silent for gaming keyboards standards, so you might want to try some good membrane keyboard like the Logitech K780.

I've owned a Corsair Strafe with Cherry MX Silent switches. It's a decent keyboard but the spacebar is still somewhat loud. Rest of the keys are fine. I don't have experience with other mechanical keyboards though, so a loud spacebar might be unavoidable. I did also have an issue with the keycaps wearing out way too quickly, but got replacement keycaps for free from Corsair support since it was within warranty,

Well if you dislike sound you missed the point of buying an ornata. The mecha-dome switches they use click for NO reason. It's literally a little metal flap in there that makes the sound because people think keys that click are better for gaming. Here's an image showing the cross section.

So basically you are already using a rubber dome keyboard which means you do not get any of the direct benefits of mechanical switches, so I'd suggest just stop looking for ones with the word "gaming" in the name and you'll find ones that have the same quality of the keyboard you already have, cost a tenth as much, and doesn't make that clicky sound. I have a few different ones I use, some feel better for gaming, one is so quiet I can type on it with someone sleeping in the same room without waking them up. No point in telling you the models though - I bought most of them at the second hand store for some loose change.

Now the debate on whether mechanical keyboards are better for gaming can be summed up like this: yes. IF you have a great internet connection, if you have a good PC and a great monitor, and you're no older than around 24 years old, then a mechanical keyboard can give you both a couple milliseconds of reaction time advantage and an audible and tactile feedback telling you that you definitely pressed that key and it must be the game that is broken because you totally should have side stepped in time.

If any of those things aren't true then a mechanical keyboard will only be beneficial in the way that you like to use one or not. You don't seem to enjoy it, so... maybe you should try something else?

Or if you are dead set on using a mechanical keyboard then the second best thing a lot of people end up doing is overpaying for a really big headset with surround sound so they don't have to hear the racket they make.

And also the little fact that a mechanical keyboard, unlike a membrane one, will last forever.

Forever it's an exaggeration, but Cherry MX switches are rated 50 million keypresses, which is in average 10 years. $100 for using the same keyboard AT LEAST 10 years seems a fair price considering that my old cheap membrane keyboards lasted two years each, tops.
Besides, you can replace broken switches, unlike membrane keyboards.

Maybe you should have bought proper keyboards?
My Logitech G15 refresh is 11 years old now and even though some of the buttons don't have any paint on them any more it still works.

Which had a MSRP of $99.

Yes. But it doesn't have to be a mechanical keyboard. And while theoretically they (insert good manufacturer here, not ripoff company) should last longer that isn't guaranteed.
Edit: Then there's the quality of the electronics etc for the rest of the keyboard.
So many of these hyped mechanical keyboards come from companies not exactly known for longevity.

"Works" and works are two different things though. Membrane keyboards don't feel the same as time goes on. Rubber just doesn't last that well over time. Metal springs do however, which is why there's still IBM Model M keyboards from 1985 that still feels great to this day.

Mechanical keyboards also lets you repair them, by simply changing out the individual switches that breaks (if they should break that is). You can't do that with a membrane keyboard, as it's more of a "all or nothing" type thing. There's also cleaning... which you can do easily on a mechanical keyboard, just pop off the key caps and you see the whole mechanism. On membrane keyboards, you have to disassemble the whole thing to get beneath the rubber membrane (that's where all the oils and junk gets stuck).

So yeah, it might "work" but I can assure you that after 11 years, it's nowhere near what it was on day 1.

just use office keyboards - got an old Logitech K120 xD those things will basically last forever - yet I am not using it anymore, it still came to use quite a lot over the last decade xD

so far I'm quite happy with my Razer BlackWidow V2 - even though a little bit too expensive, it's quite nice (yet nothing for OP, since it's mechanical and by far not silent)

There is no such thing as a silent "gaming" keyboard.
So called gaming keyboards are more often then not just overpriced and overhyped.

I have good keyboard Logitech Flat Ultrax for years, silent and it is very good for gaming too despite it didn't cost much, long time not in sale anymore.

edit: to be honest i don't know what keyboard I would have to buy to be similiar and not worse.
