So, I heard of a free game called Deity. Sounds good, but downloading it from either the main site or Desura sets off Avast. Anyone want to see if it triggers other virus checks for me?

I'd check with the creators, but they were students, and this was made two years ago. I'm not sure they would still even be around.

We can assume that if they upload a game to Steam or Desura, it's virus free. For me, Avast! also marked Soul Axiom's .exe as a virus, and thus deleted it immediately. Avast! can be a b*tch sometimes, so I just turn it off, if it continously alerts for non existent viruses.

What does Avast say? It often triggers if an application is not widely spread. It triggers every time when I start my self developed software.

+1 to this.

Avast, AVG, Norton and almost every Virus software out there will alert you to an exe that is not widely distributed. VirusTotal is the best place to check.

it was on pax 10. i downloaded it from its website back then. never got an alert.

edit: looks like you already put the website to the op. i'm sad now, for not being an efficient reader.

Checked with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Essentials.

Nothing came up, so I'm sure it's Virus free.

I've found Avast to have a bad track record with false positives. Deleted executables from games I knew were clean, killed archives...when it started interfering with programs I use daily I just switched to a different antivirus solution. Never looked back.
