Hello Steamgifters!
I am looking to buy a new pair of headphones/headset for PC (would be nice if they worked on ps4 too but not needed) I recently had to get prescription glasses and find my current headphones Logitech g930 putting a lot of pressure on the frames and hurting the side of my head. So I am looking for a nice pair of headphones (over ear) or a headset. Wireless would be nice if possible. Just looking for some helpful buying advice.

Budget is 300$ Canadian. which would have to include the headset.. or headphones/mic/dac/amp combo

Giveaway for those who helped with my question

Would you suggest getting an AMP/DAC for these? what do you use for a mic?

You could try ModMic with that, it is pretty high quality but a bit expensive.

The mic I use is just what came with my soundcard, Creative Sound Blaster Z.

No need for an AMP at 50 Ω is there? I don't really know, I'm no expert. :)

Get the cheapest pair you can find because chances are you'll accidentally step on them or sit on them and need a new pair.

I speak from experience.

I take care of my things, I have never broken a pair of headphones/controller or any other gaming accessory.

I also have a G930, but if I was getting a new pair I'd check out the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 9

But anything from ASTRO Gaming is nice and dependable.

Not a fan of Mad Catz products. But astro is definately on my list to check. I had the original a40's which I gave to a friend and they are still working. Wonder how the A50's are.

I wasn't a fan of Mad Catz products either, ever since their old shitty cheap controllers for PlayStation, but since ~2010 all their products are pretty solid feeling. My favorite part about the FREQ 9 is the earpiece's shape.

I've heard the A50's are some of, if not, the best out right now.

I don't know if it's quite in your price range but my #1 recommendation without budget is a pair of V-MODA Crossfade M-100's with a BoomPro mic. (I have a pair of the M-80's for traveling and they are so kush.)

Anyways good luck and hope you find the pair you're looking for.

I have the a50s and they are good... But, the charging cable is so short so you have to either make it work or pay another £15 for a play and charge cable. Plus it uses an optical out/in port so the ps4 will be fine but you pc may not if it doesn't have a sound card etc.But I love it especially when I'm watching movies(only time wireless is useful really) and I can be across the room and watch it in bed or something!

Oh and you can't use custom tags on A50s because the battery and part of the mix amp(changing game and chat volume) is on the headset itself :P

As a glasses user myself, I find the Kingston HyperX Cloud 2 to be a great and yet comfortable headset. Not wireless but it has both a usb sound card (for pc) and a 3.5mm jack for your console/phone or basically any other device. I've been using it for my PC, PS4, and iPad for about 6 months now, and no issues so far! :D

Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 Ohm headphones sound fantastic and are extremely comfortable, even with glasses. If your PC includes good amplifications (e.g. my ASRock Z87 Extreme4 which includes TI 5532 which supports 600 Ohm headphoens) then you're good to go and no need for an additional amplifier. If not, something like FiiO E10K should do the trick (even if it's rated as optimal for up to 150 Ohm). It may be an opportunity to go for something like FiiO X3 (2nd gen) which can be used as a DAC, amplifier but is also a great portable media player. I'm using one with the DT990 and the sound quality and volume are incomparable to what you would get with un-amplified source (e.g. a phone).

Another interesting option, for the next 5 days Massdrop offers the CEntrance DACport Slim which includes a DAC and an amplifier that supports up headphones up to 600 Ohm.

I love my Audio Technica M50. It's not a headset, but you can pair it with a mic if you want, maybe if you get a clip mic or something. I have bought gaming headsets in the past and they all sucked (Razer, Sennheiser, you name it). The looks are also terrible, maybe they look nice for a 15yr old who thinks it's awesome to have leds with Razer symbols to show to their friends, well, I don't.
Used to like Sennheiser, not anymore after 2 crap headphones I bought from them. I think only the really expensive ones are good.
About glasses, can't help much there...
Beyerdynamic is also a great brand to go with as stated before.

I got a pair of Bose noise-cancelling to use at work (workspace is in a huge open area) and they are freaking awesome... but ungodly expensive...

Yeah trying to not completely break the bank. also from watching videos I think I would prefer open ear headphones.

Buy mic and headphones separately. Find a good mic, and a pair of headphones or earbuds that you like. That way if one component breaks you aren't completely out.

I love my Razor Carachais headset. Sound quality is excellent and mic quality is pretty good. Long braided cable and comfy for extended use.

EDIT: can pick up for about $75 USD

Have had issues with pretty much every Razer product I have ever owned so I most likely wont buy anything else from them. Appreciate the input though glad they are working well for you.

I've been using these pretty heavily for about 5 years... but yeah, I understand. the Razor name is kind of tainted with bad and/or overpriced products. I actually picked these up from Best Buy on a whim because I needed a new headset -fast-, and was pleasantly surprised.

I do agree with nothing better than splitting them up. I have Sennheiser HD 555's as well, and they are still the best headphone I have. I did go with a separate mic, but I did find that annoying if playing multiplayer games and having to turn my head toward the mic so people could hear me clearly.

I tried Turtle Beach, and had problems with the cheap plastic that the headset is made of. They snapped in half in about a year. After that I bought a cheap pair of Logitechs, and the build quality is excellent on them, but the sound is lacking. I would suggest since you already like Logitech maybe trying the G633 Artemis Spectrums, or the wireless G933. I was going to suggest Razer BlackSharks, but noticed you don't like Razer products.

I am considering the new Logitech headset thats coming out. But I will have to wait for reviews on it. Other then that and the hyperX one it looks like I will be going with something like HD558's with a modmic
