Remember Aerena? The developers are releasing a new paid version of the same game.

Here's the deal: if you've spent money on this game at any point, including DLCs, cash shop, as well as the paid Early Access versions, you're eligible for a free upgrade.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/247830/discussions/0/622955136048884698/

If you qualify, just follow the instructions in the post above to reserve your key. If you've got the game from the Groupees bundle long ago, and you have Aerena Base Founder's Edition listed in your DLC list, you most definitely qualify.

I'm not sure if the bonus gift copies that came with the Early Access purchases count or not. You can ask for confirmation in that thread if you're running a gift copy.

EDIT: Just got my key. Check your mails.

Ah I saw your post there.

Regarding your first question: if you've never played the game at all, you need to play through the tutorial (a few matches against the AI) until you get the option to set your in-game name. You will know when it refers to you by the name you chose instead of a generic "You".

That should be enough to save your in-game information into the log file, but you may want to restart the game two or three more times just to be sure. (There's been some reports in the past that the Founder bonuses don't get apply correctly until after several restarts.)

Thanks for the heads up. I had stopped paying attention to Aerena because so few people played it.

"The game that had paid Early Access, and then went F2P afterwards? "

It sounds like you are mocking the devs with this statement, but pretty much all EA F2P games do this to limit server load while in development. Even Valve required a purchase or beta pass to access DOTA2 for the first year.

Not my intention to mock at all.

The game is pretty fun, but it did get impeded by its F2P status. New players start with very little and will most certainly get steam-rolled by higher level players with better champions and shells, which discourages new players from continuing and gives the impression of pay-to-win.

Hopefully this new release with a better progression will breathe into it a new life.

They need a log file. Bleh, I never played.

Launch the game and grab the log file? :P

Install, launch, grab, effort.

Maybe too much when I won't play it. Unless it +1s my library?

It's +1 and supposedly comes with a new set of trading cards, since it's sort of a new game.

I wonder why they need a log file too. As steam have helped developers with lists of people who have bought DLC for these kinds of upgrades before, I don't think they really need us to send files.

Thats the reason Steam should stop Early Access. If the devs don't want to release a already paid Bundlegame, don't put it in the Bundle and give us back our money.

did you even read the thread?
people who paid for the game, even if it was from the bundle, will get the upgrade FOR FREE

god almighty..

Yes, for everyone who read this thread or their announcement and will do that much of affort, why not upgrade the Game we already have? Dev´s hoping that parts of the community miss this "upgrade"-Option and pay again. Again: That´s not how early Access should work.

I didn't have any old files left from playing it originally. I did have to reinstall it and play through the tutorial again.
Doubt they could not have made it bit less troublesome.

Thanks for the heads up. It was finally a good incentive for me to give the game a shot. Kind interesting, although F2P is always a huge turn-off for me.

To play or not to play? That is the question. Should I install and play a game I don't play on the chance of getting a better version of it? I have the AERENA Thank You Pack, so I figure I could get the update, but I've never played the game.

Devs have updated their conditions: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247830/discussions/0/622955136048884698/

We will give keys for the new version to everybody who spent money on Aerenafor:

  • DLCs except supporter pack
  • ingame purchases
  • Early Access Version

BUT NOT:
founders version from a bundle. We are getting swamped by game hoarders who have never played the game and kjust heard that there is a sweet deal. That is not for whom the offer is intended.

Dick move, in my opinion. Bundle is still a paid version, nobody forced the devs to work with Groupees. Customers are customers when they buy from a legit shop... any legit shop.
Also, I don't understand how Valve allows an early access product to get released as a new title after completion, but I may be missing something there.

well, as they stated, their doing it voluntarily, so they can set up any conditions they want.

I admit that I only fired up the game to generate a logfile (and I already received my key), but that doesn't mean I would not have played the game eventually. It's just not on top of my backlog list.

however , the fact that they are releasing the same game again as a different version is kinda lame in the first place.

Well, fxxx them. They are releasing the same game twice. It isn't even a new content version, its just one with all content unlocked. Total cxxx muffins.

And topic on it was locked, I assume to prevent the complaints that would be fairly deserved.

I think there's some miscommunication here.

Early Access is Founder's. It's the one and same. They can't tell the difference.

My copy is from Groupees and I got my key just fine.

There are people who think they're entitled to the free upgrade because they bought the bundle, or because they have a gift copy in their inventory, when they've never play the game. This promotion is meant for people who have activated and played the game on their account. The instructions to claim a copy of the new game include submitting Aerena game account information, which those people who just "hoard" the game keys/gifts would not have.

We paid for the original in a bundle. It's not up to them whether we use it or not.

They didn't deny you the upgrade. They have a perfectly reasonable set of conditions for people to claim their free upgrade. All you have to do is launch the game and play for a bit to generate the log file. If you don't want to do that, who can you blame?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you've bought the game as part of a bundle you won't get the upgrade from now on, that's the problem.
