Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7

wut?

Apparently a lot of (not all) users have trouble installing or running the game in Windows 7. Bethesda never has been one for solid programming.

Nice catch, Bernardo.

My friends don't have trouble running the game.

Also don't imply I don't have a lot of friends...I have self esteem issues.

I had issues with it. It took some finagling with the d3d9.dll but some others with Win7 were not so lucky.

Many people have difficulty getting the game to play at all, never mind the several bugs they could encounter in-game.

Just a notice that it was made for prior versions of Windows and support stopped by the time Win7 came in.

I have no idea what warranted that notice on FO3, seeing as other games do not have that tag.

FONV came out after win7, but FO3 didn't. I still don't get why either say they don't run on vista/7 (fo3 was released after vista I believe).

Anyway, I've had some issue getting FO3 to run on my laptop but both run "fine" on my pc.

EDIT:

ERrr... My bad about this! I thought this was NV! >< Good job me. FO3 was released before win7, but even then it's not compatible with vista I don't think

FO3 is still great though, probably one of my favourite games.

What.

FO3 was released before Win 7 came out... FO3 came out in Oct 2008, Win 7 came out on July 2009.

it is what I said. :\
It used to say on the steam page it wouldn't run on vista either, but it was released after vista.

I was saying New Vegas was released after win7. I also edited after a short while saying I got this whole thing mixed up thinking it was about new vegas no fo3. .. but then apparently in my edit I miss worded it seems with "was not released" I mean it was. Again I mess up good job lol..

What do you mean "support stopped"? It's one of their top games... I know Bethesda are lazy assholes when it comes to actually making sure their games work, but that's pretty big an issue considering that eventually everyone will move on to newer versions of Windows. :/

Knowing my luck with "running the game" issues I'm quite... concerned. :D

"support stopped" as in, no more patches will be released. Ever. Which does not really matter that much, the unofficial patches made by the mod community are much, much better.

Well, Fallout 3 is not optimized for any version of Windows. I installed a boatload of mods that claim to improve various performance and stability issues, and for the most part they seem to be doing their thing.

A lot, basically. I checked Witcher EE just in case and it was 75% off. Pretty sweet.

But that's not a Flash Sale. :) That sale lasts until the 27th.

I heard it was a pretty good game. I don't have much interest in FPS games though, they're all the same to me. Anyone wanna convince me this game is good? :)

it's RPG/FPS hybrid with a lot of non-linear play from what I understand. I haven't actually played the new Fallout games though (Fallout 3 or New Vegas) so I can't say how much is FPS and how much is RPG. can someone shed some light on this?

It's a verry good game i've played it if you like the mass efect type story telling and choosing your own actions etc you will love it.

well i played new vegas, and it feels like and old fallout, of course, the gameplay is totally different, one is turn based RPG, the other is FPS/TPS [third person shooter]/RPG, but the "feelings", are like the old ones. The NPCs, the escenarios, the rest of the gameplay (like the SPECIAL system, the perks & traits)
i love New Vegas.

+1, 3 not so much

It is good. It's a first person shooter RPG, but you can play in third person quite happily. It's as non-linear as Just Cause is really. You can't quite blow as much shit up in FO3 as JC2 but it is really open world and very much based on your decisions. The perk system / upgrade system works well.

Oh, and if that isn't enough... MODS.

Small print: You'll have to suffer GFWL.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on STEAM - base price: 20 euros.
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on GamersGate - base price: 10 euros.

I suggest you guys wait for a 75% on GG and you'll also get to play it without the Steam client.

Here in the United States the base price is the same on both sites ($20 USD). I've been looking through GamersGate's Thanksgiving sales as well and honestly they aren't all that interesting.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Well, for us euro people the base price differs and it's smarter to wait for a 75% off on GG than buy it now on Steam.

so people like DRM? I thought it was the other way around. Or are you referring to the 'no Steam, no buy' mentality?

FO3 doesn't have Steam achievements since it is GFWL.

That was a response to "so people like DRM?" and not my statement "FO3 on Steam only, because achievements". And doesn't matter that it's GFWL, some games that use it have Steam achievements anyway.
