I don't think it's ever asked for my phone number, although I use an authenticator with steam. It sounds very abnormal considering I've never seen it, and it's being repeated every time you restart. I did have to provide a ton of personal information to valve for tax purposes, but that was related to the steam market.

I think it's only if you have beta for now, I got it too

Correct -- that was in the new update released yesterday (which also got rid of the blank Steam - News Update pop-ups that would open every time you exited a game).
[edit] Don't know why it's still asking you if you've already added it though. Might just be a bug since it's a new system. [/edit]

Thanks, it's probably a bug, but if it's because a new update then hopefully it will be fixed soon.
It's kinda botched when you use the Blue Pulse skin http://i.imgur.com/P2MQQqD.png

So the blank news popups wasn't just my problem. That was really getting annoying!

Getting the same problem. I've only clicked "not now" so far though. I don't really want to give steam my phone number.

I did give Steam my phone number as I was hoping that Gaben was wanting to call me and ask me what I was wearing, But Steam is still asking for my phone number although if I go to 'Account Details' the phone it is clearly already added.
I guess someone has simply screwed up. And I'm still waiting for Gaben to call...

for two weeks it bothers me to confirm already confirmed e-mail

Yeah beta version, I already bitched about it on their release thread since it keeps showing every time the client is restarted. However another update is already queued, so we shall see.

Looks like they fixed it, thank goodness...

I heard a rumor that if you add your phone number, Gabe will personally call you. For every 100th person he calls, he gives a clue about the release date of Half Life 3.

I hate it, no steam profile to view and ALWAYS asking for a phone number!

well, gaben already knows how to take you money, maybe he wants to say sorry in person?
have no idea why you need to insert your phone number

Just give them the following Phone Number
+1 425 889 9642
You will thank me later.

I was going to suggest this one +1 425 249 7393 but not sure enough people would get it. Besides I think the first number is probably the best one to give.

When you click not now, and restart steam it just keeps asking the same question again.
So i let it send the verification number to my home phone (not mobile) and i entered the code given, seemingly it worked, added my telephone number, but when i restart steam it just asks again.
Anyone else have/had it? and knows how to get rid of it? couldn't find much about it on google.
