Any NEWer actiongames like in the past? Quake, Doom, Max Payne (1), Duke 3D etc.?

awwww man while discussing MP3 i was checking some older trailers and experiences from the past where it was:

straight action
no regen
no bullshit
mostly KICK ASS music in the face
level design not like A -> B in a tunnel ;)
etc.

i hope that some indiedevs will resurface those old school feelings in some games again!
i wonder why there are not games on kickstarter etc. yet which focus on that? maybe soon. the only game i remember is STRAFE (it doesnt really feel so impacting though atm!).

Well in my opinion both Wolfensteins were amazing. It had some regen (you regen for the next 20 HP, if you have 1, then up to 20, if you have 41, then up to 60 etc.), but it's story and gameplay was amazing. I mean you get to dual wield assault weapons and laser snipers. Both were amazing games, I really recommend them.

Did you play rtcw or ut99? Both are on steam

Unfortunately it seems like all the 'old school' shooters that come out are nothing special. If you haven't already, you should probably check out brutal doom as well

+1 for Wrack. Maybe not a complex game, but sure is fun as hell. Like Doom with Borderlands 2 shaders

Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Hard Reset, Ziggurat (although that one's more Heretic than Doom)... Plus, I mean come on, there are enough Doom mods out there to last you a lifetime ;). I wholeheartedly recommend the one called Demonsteele. DoomRLArsenal is also nice.

Haven't played it though, so can't confirm.
