Preferably games that are enjoyable at this time and still actively worked on. Rather than being like this.

I've been playing Nuclear Throne and recommend the game if you can get a voucher for it.

At the moment I'm quite pleased with both Kerbal Space Program and Space Engineers. I haven't put a large amount of time into Space Engineers yet because I'm busy with exams and getting a degree and all that bollocks.

+1 for Kerbal Space Program. Even the demo is a ton of fun. KSP is a great combination of learning and fun with physics. And then there's times when I just want to build an absurd monstrosity with far too many engines and watch it rip itself apart.

I'm playing Verdun, Prison Architect, Starbound, Next Car Game. Have few others like Kerbal Space Program, etc.
I can recommend the ones I'm playing. I like them :)

+1 for Next Car Game.

It runs insanely smoothly given how many pieces the cars break into and how much debris there is on the 24 car Figure-8 or 24 car Derby events - and that's on a 3 year old mid-range laptop (mid range 3 years ago)

I was probably going to use ubuntu, or at least initially because that's supposed to be an easily accessible linux distro and I've played around with it a bit on a USB flash drive install and I liked what I saw.

If there is a better one for gaming and general use that you can recommend, I'll give it a look.

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 myself. I don't about gaming on other distros, other than SteamOS, so I can't answer in this department. For general use there's a lot distros I like more, like CrunchBang, but there are no graphics drivers for that one for my laptop (even windows don't have drivers) while Ubuntu have. So there's not much choice for me if I want to play something.

It's an experimental all-gaming beta test of an operating system... built on top of another operating system that isn't very stable in regards to gaming yet... what were you expecting, Windows?

Not dead. 2 reasons updates have slowed down recently.

1: The entire Starbound team relocated to one area, which is no small task I might add, to be more efficient in working on the game. Main focus there was communication.

  1. The other reason updates have slowed down was the community response to faster updates. Meaning, instead of putting out more frequent smaller updates, they have decided to focus more on the big "game changing" stuff.

+1 for Starbound too. That game is great, even in Early Access.

Door Kickers is awesome! The devs regularly release new content regularly and they answer people's questions, sugestions and bug reports on the forum almost immediatly.
The game is entering beta now (the last alpha update was released this month), but it already has a lot of great maps, character loadout and even steam workshop support.

Endless Legend: updated 12 days ago

Craft the World: updated 4 days ago

Space Engineers: updated 4 days ago

Pixel Piracy: updated 3 days ago

Prison Architect: updated 28 days ago

Starbound: updated ??? a long time ago

Gnomoria: updated 13 days ago

as far as I can tell Pixel Piracy and Space Engineers are getting the most frequent updates, I only own the EA games mentioned above and most of them are a tons of fun :), I played the most with Prison Architect and Starbound, Space Engineers has a lot of potential but I regret buying it because its horribly optimized and I get like 15fps regardless of the settings so its pretty much unplayable for me. Also Fistful of Frags which is a free to play non Early Access game gets updated every single day, today we even got two updates haha. (just putting it out there)

I currently have 327 hours and counting on Kerbal Space Program. I'm enjoying seeing Divinity Original Sin and Wasteland 2 develop, though because they are story driven RPG's, I haven't gone too far into them. I play it after each update to see what improvements have been made. I have put 43 hours into Wasteland 2 and haven't tried the latest build yet, and I have 24 hours on D:OS.

Next Car game is the grade A+ game. It's not perfect, but it's already an amazing game in just what it gives you and it's huge potential is amazing. I've got my money's worth just on the tech demo that comes with a pre-order. I also have Kerbal Space Program and I really need to sit down and learn more about it before I can say anything about it, but the youtube videos I've seen of it look great. I also have Prison Architect that I need to play, but it also looks good from youtube videos. (Basically go to youtube, go to OfficialNerdCubed on youtube, and find his videos on these three games and you can see for yourself. He also has a thing called "Alpha Detective" where he looks into early access games.)

NerdCubed plays KSP

Next Car Game part 1 Part 2

I have found that I tend to enjoy stuff that Dan (NerdCubed) enjoys so he is my go-to YouTuber to judge if I'll enjoy a game before I buy it... And I've bought several games after watching him play it (Prison Architect, Papers, Please! Kerbal Space Program, Next Car Game, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite and more)

Yea, he was the inspiration for me getting the games. It's funny how one youtuber can have so much power with purchases. He's said before that a recommendation from him for a game on twitter has got it through greenlight. I am just sad that he's taking a break from videos for a few weeks due to moving and burnout. I will especially miss the bi-weekly Little and Cubed.

I won it instead. :P

I just wish there was some single player mode when I was playing it (regular updates and datacaps don't go well together unfortunately), even if only a tutorial. When I wanted to test gamepad customization, I need to join a match.

And its from the former Iron Lore developers (Titan Quest), so I'm quite optimistic. Although, I don't think its necessarily going to be worth getting until its actually finished.

My personal favorite is Next Car Game, I thought it was a little pricey for early access at $25 when I got it but I have no regrets at all. Its just plain fun, derbies and races both. Races where they have jumps are the best especially, since you can ram into cars mid-air and flip over stuff.

The first game I've bought for early access is Brofroce and I totally love it. Although it takes some time for updates, it is still very enjoyable in the current state, both in SP and MP. And seriously... who wouldn't love a game where you can be MacGyver, Arnold or Ash from Evil Dead?

Neo Scavenger is great. It gets more content every so often and has lots of fun gameplay once you get past the start and into the meat. One of my favorite games that doesn't hold your hands while you play. Easy to play hard to survive and great if you want to kill time with a challenging game but don't want to have to smash lots of buttons.
