Well, at first I just started out simple with a free editor online named piskel, but now I am using Aseprite which works pretty well for animations as well.

Yeah Piskel is pretty nice for a free editor. I believe I used it for the portal one...

Well I don't have any train gifs, but the internet has plenty, Here's one I liked (also one of the first to show up, but still was nice). .
