Do we have to be a 'hero?'

Are we allowed to pick our powers, or should we decide one based on personality? Cuz I'd totally either go for shapeshifting or control of space and time.

CEOman. My special power would be controlling the stocks of a multibillion dollar company and the ability to predict the fluctuations within the stock market. The guy begging on the corner for a penny would be my nemesis.
