If you get the message "Server's busy, please try again later." check the console.

You can open the console using CTRL + Shift + J
You will see something like

{"code":"Validate:NotEnoughPlayTime","params":[1832640]}

and you will know what the problem is.

How does it have 12,000 reviews a day after release...?

hype, because of the deal and multiple users having to 'idle' it for a certain time to unlock other deals. its like watching people 'buy' a coupon for a game, quite funny community chatter with people struggling to get keys and some even believing rating the game with a review improves their chance of getting the keys or such, hence the answer for your 12k reviews. you may note some reviews are only 2hours into gameplay.. pretty clever way for companies to manipulate users into liking/hyping and actually immediately buying one of their new games. How would its sales have looked if not for this deal? would it have had less reviews like the other games being gifted? and nobody realise what else is going on.. making steam profile public so the company marketers can see whatever else they want from your profiles for market research.. "Any information on your Steam Profile page that is set to be publicly viewable may be accessed by promotion-api.mirror-2.com. "

"How would its sales have looked if not for this deal?"

Well it both released in early access, and without the "sexual content" or "nudity" tags that the first game had, so it might not attract the same crowd that bought the first one. A deal like this is just smart marketing to get people interested in either the new game, or the potential deal (which are for their past games, and would no doubt create word of mouth, such as this thread)

"you may note some reviews are only 2hours into gameplay.. pretty clever way for companies to manipulate users into liking/hyping and actually immediately buying one of their new games" and "making steam profile public so the company marketers can see whatever else they want from your profiles for market research."

The reason for the time requirement is to prevent people from entering the promotional giveaway and just refunding the game afterwards. The description of the promotion is pretty clear. The reason for public profile has nothing to do with market research. It is so they are able to see your game history to be able to tell you own the game and the playtime (similar to how SG has the public requirement to check that you don't already own they game and activate your wins).

Edit: If they didn't have the public profile requirement, and instead required the user to leave a review at 2hr 20min then I might be able to see your argument of "manipulate users into liking/hyping", but as it currently stands nobody is asking for or forcing their reviews.

The game is VERY popular and cheap. So is Mirror 1.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can see that now the game has about 16.8K reviews, and 15.4K of them are in Chinese. Why is that?

The first Mirror game was VERY popular among Steam users in China. For people who don't know (or play) any game with sexual contents on Steam, it's highly possible that they've heard about Mirror, even if they have no idea what it's about. And the word about these two events (free Steam Keys and 100 Switch Consoles) got out about a week ago, and has gone viral in player communities. (I mean, everyone loves free stuff.) Then you add the cheap release price to the equation, voila!

And here is a fun fact. On the day before the second game was released, the first one got a "Mature" tag, hence it was automatically block to Chinese users. So this event was a perfect way to get the first game.

There was this popular screenshot. A player shared his Steam friend list, and dozens of his friends were playing (idling) this game on the day of release.

I'm not sure what else I can add to the explanations from the OP to make it clearer.
You buy the game. You idle it for 2h20m. After that you click on those 2 links (step 3 from "How to" in the OP), the first one will give you 10 random Steam keys from the ones listed in the chart, as long as they still have keys available.
If you try accessing the links before you finished idling it, then it will throw an error.
I hope this helps, if not, ask away!

"soon-ish" was my word :P It started with 10 games and now it has moved on to 5-7 games 3-5 dlcs.. I think (of course I cannot be sure) that atleast the more "rare" games keys must be close to the end to substitute with dlcs. But that's my estimation, I don't have any way of being sure

Why 0 CV?
I have activated them on me but really.. Why 0 CV?..

It's not a pure giveaway and you NEED money to purchase the initial game. Also, what you get is random.. Something like mystery keys from Fanatical and elsewhere..

I find it terribly unfair.. And a big kick to those getting them to ga them.. You cut every motive for one to give them away in this site because of this..

I might not care but many do.. And will prefer to ga them elsewhere or better yet trade them..

Yeah, I don't understand. They are not free in any sense. It's basically a bundle where you get 11 games for 0.95 EUR. There's absolutely no way to get these games for free.

Also this deal wouldn't even have a great real CV ratio anyhow as most of these are very cheap. So why punish those who are giving these games away?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My point exactly.. No different than the dollar bundles or even worse.. It's beyond weird

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's more about the fact that these keys drop for free in large numbers.
But you can also see it from the perspective of SG's policy of considering games as bundled / given away for free: you spend around $1.19 to get 10 keys of at least $1.99 each (often more than that), so that's a ratio of roughly 1:20 which automatically places them under partial CV. From there on to 0 CV is just a little step, and the decision was probably made because there are many more accounts doing this in comparison to buying a regular bundle that would otherwise provide a similar CV ratio.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So why aren't ALL dollar bundles 0 CV?
Or every free game with purchase above x amount?
What's the difference?.,.

And they haven't been bundled again so..

I just read this better: "and the decision was probably made because there are many more accounts doing this in comparison to buying a regular bundle that would otherwise provide a similar CV ratio"

So what are you telling me?.. Sg knows how many sales sites have? xD
Most activated them on themselves btw..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They don't drop for free, that's the point. You have to spend.

And if these were put on the partial CV list which would be fair then the real CV gain would be nothing outstanding at all. Not better than any regular bundle.

The recent EGAMER dollar bundle and the GameGuru bundles had 1:20 ratio and tons of people 'abused' them to level up, yet those games are not on the zero CV list.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh and don't forget and some old mega bundles.. 50 games bundles.......... Preeeeetty sure those aren't all 0 CV...............

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It really shouldn't be 0 since you do have to buy the game to get them.

I almost thought about not putting my extra keys on here because of that, even though i decided against it and put them on SG anyway; others might not.

With how many keys were probably given out already, there is a low amount being given away on here probably for that reason.

While SakuraGame does like to publish games from other developers, they have also in the past just reposted other developers' works onto Steam without getting the sufficient amount of permission to do so.

being cheap and entertaining has nothing to do with them having a history like this

SakuraGame is a publisher that specializes in Chinese and Asian indie games, surely they are Chinese themselves:

1 - A One-Time problem with a developer who did not finish signing the contract. The wronged game has already been removed.
2- Stolen art because they don't fully review the games. Happens all the time, like for real, little publisher and indie devs alike. Rus 1 dollar games anyone? Puzzle clones with Nier Automata art?
3- Bad translations: Chinese game collector here. You have no idea what a bad translation is, check independent indie chinese devs again. Even some triple A productions. Want quality? Pay for it/ sign for a better know publisher.
4- Misrepresentation: Open to interpretation. Communication problems. Language barrier. Different rules for each country. ?
5- Explicit +18 content in game: What are we in 1990? The game already has its corresponding +18 patch as dlc per steam rules.
6- Questionable giveaways of games from another Devs.: Do not sign something that does not seem clear to you.

Do you want to look for a publisher with really bad practices and no need to do them ? There you have 505 games.

I don't want to start a discussion but it does seem like overreacting to me indeed.

By some of your "points" it seems you're not aware that the post was from 2018. So yes, the wronged game was removed a long time ago. As for the Maturity rating, once more this article is from back in 2018. Also by some of your points I don't really think you've understood some of the the article and the parts you seem to understand you are fine with. It's one thing to sweep the actions under the rug or even just say screw it and move past it, but to sit here and justify these actions is another thing entirely.

It was ALREADY removed by the time of the article and i understand english perfectly fine thanks. Again whats your take in 505 games anti-consumer practices? Im not gonna start an argument about nothing. Just pointing out that they are a small Chinese publisher based out of a garage (for real) and certain things cannot be expected from them not because i justify anything but by common sense. I dont gain by defending them either (excep blacklists) and this is it for me. The first thing I said was a simple comment, on the internet you cannot give your true opinion and I am wrong to forget it. End of the story.

Out of a garage? For real?

As for this "article".. Imo it's nuisance.. I tried to read it with a straight face.. Then I came across a huge blue title "Questionable Sexual Content".. It's funny when people try to write in a "serious" tone amazingly bad "arguments" (not even arguments.. a bunch of "facts" that many times are unfounded built upon a string of 0 logic).

Your initial comment covers all the rest

No you. They aren't cheap for the quality they deliver. Candy crush is free. Selling hentai and marketing it as a match 3 game despite it not innovating in any way isn't gonna make it a quality game, but it is the new trend of such games, like rpgmaker, visual novels, puzzles, just add "sexual content" to it, it will guaranteed get at least "very positive" reviews no matter how trash it is. Not because it's a good game, you wouldn't buy them all because if they had images of nature, but you buy them for the anime titties. Look at it's reviews, there's enough people who are not impressed by the content itself, but then count how many ascii of tits you see. Prove me wrong. ^_^

Show me please? Which other games they have that are as "successful" as their porn games that are made by them, that aren't filled with mediocre hentai or weaboo crap, aren't titles copied from other people and have like 1000 reviews like their porn games do? The only games I see that seem interesting from them are "Reformers Intl Ver(ε˜ι©θ€…ε›½ι™…η‰ˆ)" which is actually a game from rmKing so not made by them, they're just publishing someone elses content since the dev didn't wanna translate(with permission of course, I assume). The other game was "Yet Another Tower Defence" from 2018 which is just copying the name and popularity of "Yet Another Tower Defense" that was published before in 2017 and it wouldn't matter because even "Yet Another Tower Defence" is made by someone else. Also, none of these games are actually good.

They seem to be making Mirror X right? Or is this not their IP? I understand that for the most part they buy(or steal?) games from other people, whichever, but at least this is their own ip now? They have to be making this game because the publisher and developer are engaging in the exact same shady tactics. You have "KAGAMI WORKS" under "Paradise Project" with the game "Mirror" and you have "KAGAMI β…‘ WORKs" under "NIJICO" with their game "Mirror 2: Project X". Why is the same dev releasing their new game in a series under a new developer name, and the publisher changes names as well after changing them how many times in the past? Makes no sense unless this is a new developer. Unless they're evading something with Valve or they can't publish on their accounts anymore.

Honestly I'd like to dig more into it, but the first 60 threads in the discussion forums of Mirror X are not in English, I believe its Chinese, and I don't understand it. Maybe that's where the audience is and maybe they're targeting a specific demographic in China. Not sure. The dev is chinese I think and I've noticed this trend in a lot of chinese dev games where the community just pushes them up for the same of more chinese devs being out there, but they don't seem to jump on US indie devs as much, however there was "It takes two" that had an overwhelming majority of chinese reviews recently I think too.. I don't have enough info on this either to know if people are just positively review bombing it for no reason.

As for the two games you mentioned, both seem like decent games, I own both somehow which is probably why I didn't see them so oopsie my bad. I guess they can afford to buy 2 decent games with 50 porn games tho. I'll give them that. Not sure what you expect to get outta me, but it's not like I'm about to praise any triple AAA publisher either if they decide to push out 10 porn games for 1 normal game to meet their quota, you know what I mean?. 70 000+ reviews in Mirror 1, 15 000+ reviews in Mirror 2 with less than an hour of content in three days since release, while both Vagrant and Tales of the Black Forest are at 10 400 reviews combined, after being out for 2+ years each. This is just my opinion, but I do think just by looking at it that "Tales of the Black Forest" is a much better game than "Mirror", and yet, sex sold one more than another. It's hard to compare since one is an jrpg, and the other is a match 3 game, but even then, take their other normal game, and even their 2d sidescroller didn't work out even close, like, not even 10% as close. That's why I was saying that people don't care for the game, but for the sexual images, and this was all before I even knew they published those two games for those poor devs who can't erase that, which I'm particularly somewhat fond off. We can of course disagree, since I do believe it's alright for people to have different opionions.

Thank you tho, I was surprised to actually see they bought two games that actually had over 1000 reviews that weren't porn games. They were maybe experimenting with the market and gave up afterwards.

I see 48 positive reviewed ones, 6 negative reviews and 19 mixed reviews. I don't know maybe you see more but I had to undo a bunch of filters to actually see this garbage pop up. I suppose you are right I should have specified, no matter where you are in the world, it is impossible to not have the other side of the coin as well to whatever degree, my point stands, the only reason these games exist and sell, is because of nudity, coomers don't buy them to enjoy a match 3 game, but they get them for the hentai, and those mixed games have a few things in common if you read their reviews, such as: stretched art, game plays itself, no actual nudity, mechanics make no sense, etc. As long as you honestly don't try your absolute best to make a bad game, like honestly, just buy some hentai pics from fiver and have a dev make you a match 3 game and post it up, you honestly just can't end up with negative reviews. The ones that do have serious issues, it's the dev that needs help or they're literally just scammers who have concluded that "these guys buy anything hentai no matter how bad" so they're just testing to see how far they can push the limit. But fair enough, using "EVERY" was the wrong word. I meant the overwhelming majority, figured it was self explanatory, didn't know there was someone that anal about this stuff, but again, there's always the other side of the coin so I should've expected it. Been trying to be more specific and in detail for everyone that needs a tutorial for everything it's just I'm not anyone's parent.

As for Candy Crush, it sold for billions(I think it sold multiple times), so I'm assuming you agree with me. I already know and I agree it's very successful, not that I play it, but it's been proven that games with microtransactions tend to take more from users than what their price would be if they would sell it straight up as a full game. It's a lot easier to sell someone 100 cases at $3 each and never sell them the actual game, than sell the game for $300. This way, even those who never would've paid $20 for your game, will eventually feel compelled to put in $3 for "supporting the game" or some garbage, while others spend thousands.

Hmmm.. The misunderstanding is elsewhere I think. You are speaking of match-3 and hentai match-3 while I'm speaking of hentai (and adult games that are hentai yet they are missing the tag)
The results are much different. The "this type" I misunderstood

We don't disagree on Candy Crush and the rest. Plus, I also dislike this model because in the end it's not fair play amongst users anymore nor the same experience

Edit: Forgot to comment with my confusion over "this type"
And you played them all to know all suck? Or you know what people enjoy / relax with?
Same argument applies to every mini shovelware / not perfect game / fail try out there on steam. Yet they sell for 17174 different reasons. So what?

Edit: And you are forgetting 1 thing.. Mirror 1 isn't this famous for no reason at all.. It is also concidered the best among "this type (match 3 hentai)" if not the best 100% by pretty much everyone that's a fan of the genre even by a little

I haven't tried any of the games from this publisher yet, I think, maybe I did or not, I wouldn't remember, and that probably says something for me at least. I just don't find them special at all. I understand some people do, but wanted to at least share my side as well. I can definitely tell what people "enjoy/relax" to. Mirror 1 is at 70 000 reviews and people just want more booba, It's not necessarily a compliment. This is all about the toiler paper and the lotion, not the match 3 game, which is what I was making my point to be. Which is okay, but I don't want to sell this idea to anyone that hey this match 3 game is special in any way. It just sells anime titties, not new gameplay. It doesn't do a better job than Candy Crush and I know this isn't even close to as popular as candy crush of course, but even with games like Bejeweld or Rise of Atlantis for instance, which are somewhat forgotten due to their age, but are still better.

Regarding of whether this impacts me the same as a dev who publishes shovelware, yes, of course it does. The different thing here is that someone actually went out of their way to make a "game" just not good, but then added "sex" to it, because they knew it would sell well. In the case of an asset flip or shovelware, like games from publisher "RewindApp", all of his games are unity assets just copy pasted put onto the steam store. Of course I think it's toxic to the gaming community and the game development community. You don't? I think they're both toxic. They're both low effort when other people have a hard time getting discovered because these people are just allowed to spam post low effort games(with tactics like making new dev names and publisher names for every game they release), which then just forces devs probably like vagrant and tales to end up with a publisher like sakura in the desperate attempt to get some recognition for their work, somewhere, anywhere in the toxic space. So what? Not sure, I suppose calling these works "trashy" as they are is better than just accepting them as the norm of "at least 1% fun indie games", and rather expect more from a game release.

I didn't look where the reviews come from until just now, there's 8073 reviews in English, with a total of 83 183 reviews in all languages.

Thanks for the info. Btw i didn't idle Mirror 2, played through it and got all 4 endings in under 2 hours, it's a cool match3 game, wish there was more content like in the first game. (also the hentai part is missing)

It's still early access, so they could add the H element afterwards (like the 18+ patches other games have). I tried the first battle and the game seems very interesting. I would have played it more, but I don't meet the minimum graphics card requirements (so any time effects from matching gems, or a cutscene would play, it would lag). Once I get a better setup I definitely plan on returning to it (and hopefully it will be more than just Chapter 1 of 8 at that point).

I played it too. It was decent. You can see from one of the menus there looks to be more content to be added. This short "adventure" looked to be 1 of 5 or 6 planned, although the others might come as DLC.

The game page says it is chapter 1 of 8 in it's current state:

ABOUT THIS GAME
Please know that the release version of the Early Access version, the game only has the 1st chapter of the Story Mode, which is about 5% content compared to the complete version. We'd recommend you consider the status quo of the game before purchasing....
.
....We intend the complete version to have:

  1. Story Mode: 8 chapters in total, estimated playtime is 12 to 24 hours.
  2. Challenge Mode: Roguelike+match-3 fused challenge mode, estimated playtime is 50 to 100 hours.
  3. Simulator: Gather resources by playing Challenge Mode to unlock characters, skins, and new areas. Estimated playtime ??? hours.

I mean I was already into it for the Match 3 since I enjoyed games like Gems of War, and this (or at least the first Mirror) seemed to be one of the only hentai/sexual content games on Steam that actually had some game to it (compared to lazy puzzles, dating sims, visual novels, sex simulators, etc). Then they start adding skills and items into the mix, and there is already more depth than I expected. Finally they throw the word "roguelike" out there, which is one of my favorite genres (and usually garners a buy or at least a wishlist from me). I didn't even read the description before buying (bought for the promotion), but even with my hardware setbacks I don't regret buying this for the game content + price alone (even without the promotion).
