"the usb hub gets crazy"
what do you mean by that?
if you mean when u plug in a usb 3 drive to a slot and a usb 2 to another slot. The usb hub would select to work with usb 3 first(always the fastest first ).
So if u are using a usb 3 hdd and a usb 2 mouse. The mouse will not do much work.
But if u plug in a usb 3 HDD to a usb 2 slot that wouldn't do any harm or mess up your mouse or other stuff.

Let's say I have a Dell XPS 15 L521x laptop. When I install USB 3 drivers, from Dell's site, the whole USB hub gets crazy. I can plug in my external HDD only when laptop wants to - it's random whether it will connect or not. Without these drivers everything is normal. How to fix it?
