Could someone post how his picture looks after you revealed it? I don't see anything... maybe my standard "filling tool color discrepancy" is too high or it doesn't really work with the program I'm using?

Here, what program were you trying to use?
You can even see the grey if you look closely.

In RGB there's 255,255,255 which is full white and 254,254,254 (or even 255,255,254) which is 1 unit less white but it's unnoticeable by the human eye, so it's pratically invisible, but to the software it's still a diferent color, therefore it ignores it when filling.
You can easily do this with any photo editing software (even paint).

what file type did you save it as?
depending on the settings, jpg might fudge a key right out. gif would probably smooth it out as well (and although it has individual palette swatch preservation, I wouldn't recommend it for a high-detail image like the one shown).

Is the text appearing "invisible" while you type it? If not, something's not right yet.
(Instructions for Paint... if I'm wrong about parts of it, forgive me -- today's the first time I've ever used it.)

  • Click on Color 1, click Edit Colors, change Red, Green, & Blue to "254".
  • Click the text tool, click in the image where you want your text to appear, and type your text. Assuming you started with a white background (RGB all 255), you should be practically unable to see what you're typing. To verify that what you're typing is correct, you can press Ctrl-A or mouse-select to highlight the text. Click outside of the typing area when you're done typing.
  • Save the image (to save a lossless copy that will definitely have the colors preserved, but with a large filesize, save as a .bmp).
