sorry to bother you, but a dlc I just gaveaway was regifted by it's winner, checking his profile afterwards he has regifted before. I sent a support ticket but it just bothers me that he is getting points towards his contributor level for my giveaway. Thank you, and sorry if responding to a thread like this is inappropriate, if it is let me know and I'll remove it a.s.a.p.
Comment has been collapsed.
while you should probably handle this with your support ticket and not in the forum, you are right that those people shouldn't get CV for regifted games. looks to me like the worst that can happen is a few days suspension. but they keep the CV. so i guess for the typical regifter, it makes sense to regift like crazty until caught the first time. then he has a nice CV base to enter giveaways he shouldn't be able to. can't say i like that. ^^

I check their steam first if their comment section is open to everybody. If it is, I thank them there. If it isn't, I thank them on the giveaway page. (the comment section stays open after the giveaway ended)
I normally don't add them to steam because many people don't like random adds. Probably because of the huge amount of bots and scammers that are around.

Get a profile picture, you'll look less like a bot.

My rule of thumb is accept it, immediately ask "Who is this?" and then if they don't respond within 5 mins, delete them. If they send you a link, copy paste it into a virtual environment, so you don't **** everything up.

I tend to just put an edit in the description of the giveaway, usually when they win it'll direct them to the giveaway page itself so there's a chance they'll see it before they click the winner icon, some people just don't like notifications and get peev'd off by people trying to say thanks, its very odd sometimes
Comment has been collapsed.
I have the same issue, Don't know how show my appreciation for the guy thats giving away the game without bothering them on steam or leaving in the comments ( some people don't like that). A quick message option would be great.
Comment has been collapsed.
Meh, more the opposite for me, I'm sick of people trying to add me on Steam or leaving random comments anywhere just to thank me. I don't expect anything in return for what I give, stop messing with my friends list or wasting my time with my message history.

If you mean worst as in unreasonable, then I find it being those people who threaten to blacklist if you write specific comments, or unless you write specific comments, bump the thread or add pictures or something.
The only reason I blacklist someone is if they blacklist me first (usually for shitty reason) or if I know or have proof that they broke a rule of the site and just haven't received a verdict from the admins yet. I don't like people blacklisting just because they disagree with someone, or because they don't follow your personal ethics.
I'm sure that even voicing my opinion here will get me blacklisted by some people, it's not the first time, sadly.

+1.
People blacklist for who say tanks, people blacklist for who don't say thanks, people blacklist if you win their GA for not to give you anther game in future... are all shitty reason.
Bye!

people blacklist if you win their GA for not to give you anther game in future
Even though I don't do that, I can see the logic in that, I don't think it's stupid.
About people blacklisting over saying / not saying thanks, more often than not it's about filtering people who can't be bothered to read the description of the giveaway.

I also don't do it, but blacklisting people who won your giveaways allows you to reach more people. With the multitude of bots, which many disagree with, or with you not caring to read the creator's description, many will blacklist for thanks comments or lack thereof. With the multitude of people asking for no thanks comments I have gotten out of the habit of doing it, though I did it in the beginning (unless specified not to).
Comment has been collapsed.
i don't think blacklisting people who won once, has any relevance, statistically spoken. we have like 800.000 users or something. unless you do only high level giveaways, it shouldn't matter at all. and if you do high level giveaways - well, my opinion is, that those guys who contributed so much, should be allowed to win twice. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Ya, I don't do it and it usually won't make much difference. I was stating what I though the others had in mind when they decided to blacklist their winners. I have a double winner from my giveaways, though this is due to a small group of ~50 people.
Duplicate winners are more of a problem within groups or niche genres. Say someone creates 200 giveaways in a group with 2000 other members, then there is a 9.95% chance one person will win twice and a 0.9801% chance that two people will win twice, assuming everyone enters. Consider only 5-10% would probably enter this increases significantly. Even Arkham Knight only about 1/3 of the group members enter.
Comment has been collapsed.
sure, i didn't talk about you. and doing that in a group might make sense in a way (i still don't really understand it, and dislike it).
Comment has been collapsed.
simple, say "thanks" instead of "tanks"...
I bet when that's what happened! Ukraine made a grammar mistake, the grammar nazis are not here to correct people, so when good guy Putin read "tanks", he just thought, ok np, they're on their way! Then of-course people got/are mad that there are Russian tanks in Ukraine, but as Putin has explained before, it's just misunderstanding!
Comment has been collapsed.
worst...? umm all are equally bad..russian hating guy..homophobes who went crazy.... that other guy who was shouting leechers at entrants......but not bothered enough to vent about it
BL is mostly filled with winners who regift & dicks who don't show shred of gratitude to g/a creators. that one guy who wrote on his profile-do not add me even if i win. just give me the damn game. he was real ahole though.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can top that.
I won a game once. He added me, BUT he wanted me "to go first". So he wanted me first click I received it and then he would give the key.
From there he went all nuts. "THEN I WONT GIVE YOU THE GAME AT ALL!" Stuff like that. It was pretty funny.

You gotta love people giving away games, trying to get GA points, essentially trying to "profit" from them in a way, that they downloaded themselves for free in the first place

i remember that one. you did a thread about it before.

Please forgive me for asking but how can you see who is on his Blacklist?

Hmm. I see, thank you for clearing that up for me, I was feeling like I just had a big ol' bowl of dumbassery and was missing something outstandingly obvious

Like kraken9 said faster than me, it's only because some blacklisted users descriptions were pretty clear to me. I have no special superpower, at least none that I talk about in a public forum :-D

The guy public shaming leechers would have to be my worst one too, I guess. I think he's technically the only guy on my blacklist that didn't get there by breaking one rule or another. There might be a couple of others but I can't recall any off the top of my head.
Comment has been collapsed.
heh, you haven't even seen it all yet :D: I've had a winner who I was giving a bundle leftover key he won via chat (it was in SGv1, so before we could send keys via SG itself) insulting me saying "wow, what a piece of shit... why would you even create GA for such an awful game" and ended conversation with "no thanks" because "you don't deserve thanks for giving away such a piece of shit"...
At the same time he had no problem with him entering GA for a game he didn't want at all in the first place ;p
Comment has been collapsed.
He entered a GA for a game that he thought was garbage, then insulted the person giving it away because he won? Seems legit
Comment has been collapsed.
his justification "there are not enough good games on SG, and these that are mostly are for groups have bullshit CV requirements, like 100$" (:D:)"why the fuck I give away 100$? if I have 100$ I will be able to buy game for myself no need to win it" and as there are not enough good games he enteres everything else so "points don't go to waste" or sth like that ;) It was a long time ago, so I don't remember his exact quotes ;p
Comment has been collapsed.
nope ;) but I know who you're talking about now, as I've seen his thread as well :> he wanted to regift game, because it's shitty and he doesn't want it, and he entered just not to waste points right? :D:
The person I'm talking about you couldn't saw even if he made a topic. As I mentioned it was long before introduction of SGv2, so long before you joined ;)

it's not unlikey..I was watching twitch stream n won key to mercenary kings..to say thank you I gave away velvet assassin key I had handy n told twitch streamer to host g/a for that (!entry n ol) some entrants were abusing me for giving away that game. I didn't have to. I just wanted to give something back cuz I won..it left bad taste in my mouth abt giving anything away to open public.

i said thanks for his giveaways and he did not have anything in description saying not to leave comments. All the comments were different and typed by me. I always type my comments

I mostly blacklist rule breakers, my only other reason for blacklisting is if someone is really behaving like an asshole, but there's only a few people that I blacklisted for that.
As far as being blacklisted goes, the only blacklist that I am aware of that isn't revenge blacklisting is for failing to follow instructions on a giveaway, but that person admitted that it wasn't very clear so that blacklist is temporary (actually now that I think of it, I think this temporary blacklist expires today ^^)
Comment has been collapsed.
Worst? Like the least justified reason? I blacklisted one person because he insulted me once. I guess that'd be the least justified out of all of them as all my other blacklists are rule breakers and people that I see yelling at cursing at multiple people on the forums when those people had done nothing to them.

I'm not aware of being blacklisted by anyone.
I've never blacklisted anyone, but I'm tempted to start blacklisting re-gifters. I'm not aware of anyone re-gifting something won from me, but I will sometimes check a user's profile before entering a GA.

Um ... I've been blacklisted cause reasons quite a few times here.
Most of times its cause a big portion of the forum hermits are whiny cunts tho ...
You say 1 bad word towards their idol , and they jump on you defending him , even if its in the wrong :)
As for me blacklisting someone .
I usually blacklist people who posted the same comment in the span of like 5 second over like 10+ giveaways for the same game ...
And anyone i see having me in his blacklist :P
Tbh tho , id love seeing something similar to the trade feedback , being added for the blacklists ... just so i can read what ridiculous reason people came up with to BL me :)

the suggestion came up several times. didn't get a lot of approval. cause why bother...
thanks for venting ;)

I dislike the whole concept of blacklisting tbh , but in the same time i find it necessary ....
So yeah ... :)
Tough id vent some frustration here ... since that seemed to be the point of the post .
Funny enough , there is yet another person who blacklisted me cause of that post :|

How can you see whose Blacklist you're on? Am I missing a section of the site that everybody else has access to but the Powers-That-Be have decreed that "not only should there be light, but Phantom must NOT be able to see any Blacklist information on the site, anywhere, ever, just to make him extra paranoid even though he has taken his meds"

Ah, I see. I assumed that if you were on somebody's Blacklist then the Giveaway just wouldn't appear to you so you couldn't see it on the games feed to enter the GA. Surely that would make more sense?
Anyway, thank you for replying, I appreciate that

I see my knowledge of this site is a little lacking. Thanks for clearing that up for me.....and that's to everybody who replied to my queries but there's too many to thank individually because it's getting towards meal time and I'm getting peckish and moody so I'm being like a bear with a sore arse

You can still get giveaway links in the forum, or try to see a giveaway directly from an user profile

I see no good reason to blacklist anyone ever. If they break rules, support is there to deal with them. Anything else such as their personal opinions are irrelevant (since they have nothing to do with my own) and have zero impact on me. For the other way around (even though I'm not aware if I'm being blacklisted by anyone currently but it does not matter anyway), I see it in a way that a stupid person has put me on their list to prevent themselves from interacting with me since they had no valid counter arguments, so I take pride in that.
Comment has been collapsed.
i think i already told you great nickname!
and agree withyou
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it's a good reason to blacklist when somebody breaks the rules. Sure, you can ask for a reroll if they're a regifter or something. But it's easier to make sure they don't win to begin with. Like let's say the guy who marked all his giveaways not received out of spite and calls you a cunt if you add them in Steam, you wouldn't want him winning your giveaways.
Basically, there's a difference for blacklisting for practical reasons and blacklisting because you don't like the guy for some reason. Personally I wish to avoid any kind of problems with my giveaways.
Comment has been collapsed.
I never ask why someone blacklisted me, as it's not my business (as long as I don't brake rules,it's their personal preference)
As to why I blacklist someone. I blacklist for awful ratio (something like 100 won, 5 sent) which can be removed if you improve, for being a dick (to me or to anyone in the forum) and of course for braking the rules. The worst should be for Ref links (which I hate) and for trying to scam (phishing links, scam proof etc)
Comment has been collapsed.
oh nvm, now i see why he blacklisted me :P
thats alot of effort though , he would have had to have gone through my steam profile, also odd seeing as i've never spoken to him or blacklisted him before just now. maybe he is stalking me

since when saying your opinion is a bigot thing? did i hurt anyone? no. then i am perfectly legitimate to express my opinion. i thought we had democracy after all
and as soon as i have to accept their opinion, they have to accept mine too
I don't mind being blacklisted, but i do mind when people blame my point of view and they ask me to accept theirs

Fck all gays!!!
You're a bigot. Your opinion is bigoted. You don't have to act on it, it's enough that you think it. Please look up the definition of 'bigot'.
Your twisted sense of moral is making you actively discriminate people that have never done anything wrong to you for something that is their own private thing and none of your concern.
There's nothing else to discuss and I'm not getting drawn into this. This is my last reply to you.

You're free to give your opinion. I'm also free to give my opinion that you're a bigot that does cause harm and you should be on my blacklist. Freedom and democracy all round!

Haha, I think you missed the point a long time ago, but yeah, you're not the brightest spark, clearly.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think there is some irony into people blacklisting others for being bigot. It's like "I don't like your opinion so you won't get access to my games, because I have the absolute truth and am always right".
It's your own definition: you are discriminating someone that have never done anything wrong to you for something that is their own private thing and none of your concern.

and totally his call.
and that's an epic reason ;)

I sometimes blacklist people that say something irredeemably stupid on the forum and refuse to listen to reason, but that's very rare. That's probably the worst reason I've blacklisted people, because it's a bit petty. I don't know why people would have blacklisted me (I've only come across one user who had done that, and he couldn't remember why), but since I haven't broken the rules, I'm pretty sure it'd have to be because they've been annoyed by something I've said on the forum.
I'd like to know the reason, by the way, so if any of you have blacklisted me, could you explain why?
I also blacklist people who I know to have broken the rules of SG, clearly don't read my descriptions, or make it apparent through their actions or comments that they enter giveaways just to win games, not to play them. These are valid reasons, in my opinion.

Go to that big thread about legalisation of gay marriage in USA and you'll see plenty of offenders. That whole thread is really quite amazing, not in a good way.

I've had cases where I wanted to enter a game, but I was blacklisted for reasons unknown. In all those cases, I've never interacted with those people before, it would be nice if mods added the optional box of selecting/writing why you're blacklisting the person

that's the point i made.

I only blacklist to rule-breakers and those with bad behaviour (those who spam a lot, insult others, etc).
I got blacklisted by many users because I rerolled some giveaways, the winner made a thread asking for opinions about if the reroll was fair, and I posted in the thread explaining the situation (the guy never said my name, so it wasn't his fault). I never ask why someone blacklisted me, so I'm not sure if there is a worse reason.

ah. i thought you were being general. don't explain, you are right

There are some people out there with a lot of GAs created that feel they are somewhat superior to others. They run trough discussions blacklisting anyone that says something they don't agree with, as if they had the right answer to everything.
Well, I tolerate those people even less than I tolerate regifters. It's 2015, we're on a worldwide site and you still can't accept different opinions?

I'm actually surprised how insanely pissy most people on SG seem like. I mean no offense, also I'm not even active on the discussions, but the very few threads/giveaways I read there is always someone bitching about blacklisting, I mean: lol, what, do people really think that anyone gives a hoot about that?

you mean me? i was pissed, not anymore.
or someone else?
i really want to know

Not you, like I go to a giveaway and all I see is "blacklisted" replys to literally anything, either to someone or just as a simple reply. Same within the discussions, someone says something and someone is already commenting "blackisted".
I mean what? Do people really care THAT MUCH about telling random people for random reasons that they are blacklisted? :D

I know there are a few people blacklisting for that reason. While I do understand one puts people that don't give any games in public (or forum) giveaways in one boat. a.k.a. not giving back to the community I wouldn't go as far as blacklisting them.
The point about this is, one can exclude people that don't do any giveaways by enforcing a level, while those that only do private group giveaways cannot be excluded this way. That said, I can understand this behavior, though I don't think it's fair since you'll end up only blacklisting people, that are visible to you (either because they entered one of your giveaways or because they are active on the forum). Therefore you actually punish people that are very active on the forum, which makes this site so very valuable (at least to me)
Comment has been collapsed.
The type of people who moan about the lack of public giveaways tend to be your average scum who expect everything to be given to them. The best way to get into more giveaways is being willing to participate with the community. There are quite a few situations where people complaining about not being able to enter giveaways only have themselves to blame.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep. I myself do mostly group/private giveaways (many of the group giveaways being for public groups though), and I think everyone who makes giveaways is free to create them their way, their style. People can always blacklist others for this reason, they have the right to do so, but I'll never agree with it being fair.
Comment has been collapsed.
Average scum, nice to meet you, Comissar!
I tend to go through the profile first tho and sometimes find people that made 2 public giveaways 3 years ago and then instantly went onto group only and they are not active at all. Mostly combined with horrible ratios. I do adjust my opinions to the experiences I make tho now that I know of charitable losers and such.

There's no "wrong" way to use a blacklist, IMO. I might not agree with everybody's reasons for blacklisting somebody, but it's completely their choice and not really any of my business.
Personally, I'll blacklist for these reasons:
