..if I "try" Aliens Colonial Marines, before I actually buy it? Thing is I haven't got a supercomputer as you all might have and I want to make sure game is playable on a decent amount of details. I am a big fan of Aliens(and Predators) universe. In fact I already own pretty much that went out since forever.

I hate devs which don't offer a demo before a game launches. :(

Edit: Ok guys, I made up my mind! Thank you all.

It's not wrong, that's what piracy is for. Testing games before you buy them cause most devs/publishers nowadays refrain from putting out demos in fear that you might refrain from purchase after seeing how unpolished or bad it is. But then again, it's entirely up to you. Trust your judgement, not the hype (if there was any regarding this game lol)

THIS!

Its exactly how I buy my games these days. "Try" them, if I can I run it and I enjoy it. I buy the game.

Yes, it is wrong

Not really,it's like a demo trail for yourself but only if you stay honest and after period of time actually buy the game to support the devs/company.

I don't see anything wrong with it, I do it all the time; it's led to quite a few purchases in past years.

Well, i woulndt say it is wrong. But you can also go to your local electronic store, buy it (maybe not register it, if that is possible) and if you cant play it, give it back and say there ist this and that wrong, it's not playable.

Also you could look at the system requirements. Maybe that would help ;)

Usualy system requirements doesn't really reflect the in game performace. Happend to lots of games now. Sometimes when I don't meet the minimum, turns out I can actually play it with no problems, some other times its the contray. Anyway, I'll just try it. Hopefully somewhere in the near future I'll upgrade my PC aswell.

Technically, yes it is "wrong", as you're acquiring something that wasn't meant to be acquired. A demo, in this case. But then again, it's sort of their own fault for not providing a demo and expecting people to take a risk when it comes to purchasing their game. Demos for all!

Free demos everywhere if you think about it. :)

I want to make sure game is playable on a decent amount of details.

If that's your only concern, then I think it's perfectly fine to d/l it and run it for 5 minutes or so.

If you download it and log a couple hours of playtime, then you're being dishonest about your reasons for pirating.

Meh, no, I won't play it for hours, I just don't want to run it on 640x480all on minimum. You know, game optimization these days..

Well look at the system requirements and see if your computer can hold up. If it can't, don't go anywhere near the pirate version OR the real version :P Will take you 2 mins tops!

System requirements don't always give you an accurate picture though. That and, well, sometimes whether you can run a game or not has very little to do with how "powerful" your system actually is. The game might just not like your setup, and boom, you've got yourself a game that doesn't run properly, or keeps crashing every 10 minutes. Or, in some cases, refuses to run at all.

But they usually give you a decent outline, so you have an idea of what they recommend. It's just one piece of information that you can quickly look at.

If you meet the "minimum" requirements, I'm sure it'll be better than that.

I don't resort to pirate copies of games for any reason. I have enough information about the game from reviews, user experiences, gameplay videos, developer interviews, gameplay demos, to make a decision. In some cases, my decision usually gets made months before the release.

Nothing wrong with it IMO. Nowadays demos, even when they exist, rarely showcase any game adequately, and I feel it's perfectly fine to have a good, hard look at the actual game before I shell out money for it.

Don't run it for 5 minutes to "just make sure it's playable". While you have it there, play a few hours, see if you like it or not. If you do, delete the "free" copy and buy it. If you don't, delete the "free" copy and forget about it.

I think if you play through a tiny bit then it's all right :) As long as you buy it if you realise that you are enjoying it!
