Half-Life 2

Also, it should only work on Nvidia Shields. But it seemed like something exciting people might like to know.

Sorry if there's already another thread about it. Tell me, and I'll delete this one.

It's good to see Half Life 2 on Android, but it's such a shame Nvidia Shields are the only supported device.

Need a mod in order for them to work on the rest of the hardware too: MTK octa-cores, Snapdragon 800, 801 and so on

It won't work on MTK Octa-cores. At least not on Cortex A7's which are currently in their flagship SoC's. Hell, I'm not even sure if it is possible to port it to Snapdragon 800 (processor is stronger than in nVidia, but there is a problem with graphic chipset - Tegra is much more similar to PC graphic cards than Adreno) But MediaTek octa's are in fact two quad core processors inside a single chip. And the way how the Cache is built - the cores inside a single block are having problems with communicating with each other - which means that if you want to use full power of MTK octa's the program from the beginning must be written to work in eight separate threads which do not require direct communication. Porting existing engine to do this is usually more time consuming than creating video engine from the scratch.

tl,dr; Octa's got too much cores to work fast enough to port source on them.

IMO, 4.x android works better, apps crash less, overall performance is better, it looks better, it feels better. But then again, if you are not using your phone a lot, you might not need newer version.

+1 Got a Defy with MIUI 2.3.7 installed...already try some rom 4.x but well, old smartphone, runs like sh*t. I don't even play games anymore on my Defy so, don't see a reason to upgrade for a better smartphone (maybe later on this year i will get the Moto X just to have a better battery).

I've heard it's not "only Nvidia Shield" , more like only Tegra 4+ devices ,

in that case ... does anyone know of an android smartphone that has tegra 4 ? i've seen a chinese one called "Xiaomi MI3" but that model isn't available outside china i guess , so any other picks ?

Yes but why? Why in Satan's name would you play it on a phone? WHY?! You have your keyboard and mouse and you can rock and roll.
Maybe its just me... I mean I don't play any games on my phone but seriously: why would anyone?
