doesn't seem like any action was taken.

Considering he is not asking followers for himself and that from Square Enix themselves he shouldn't be suspended or anything.

That is the same principal there but apparently that got slipped by, i am all for it, that these things shouldn't be suspendable but those are the rules, and apparently Sooth memorized the guidelines (or copy pasted) see below.
Following the made guidelines it does not matter if one asks for himself or that it's Square.

To be more detailed, the current site Guidelines state, within the Advertising section:

Directly naming or linking to an associated product or service will always be viewed as advertising. General references (e.g. referring to your "website", "YouTube channel", or "Steam group") may also be viewed as advertising when we believe their purpose is to bring attention to an associated product or service for publicity or sales

Previously the restriction on outside promotions involving special entry requirements only applied to linking them, but within the present environment even naming is out if you're not able to fit the mention into one of the approved subforums [eg, User Projects]. In theory, madjoki could also just mention it in a giveaway within the thread, to skirt the matter.

THAT SAID, the entire advertising guidelines section is prefaced with this statement:

Advertising is when you are promoting products or services you are associated with, or when you are posting content that is paid or sponsored.

Hence, we can ignore the advertising section entirely, which leads us back to the original restriction, detailed within the User Content section of the Guidelines:

Third party giveaways that require or reward users for performing profitable actions. For example, linking to a giveaway on another service that requires or incentivizes users to click a referral link, like a Facebook page, follow a Twitter account, join a Steam group, complete a survey, sign-up for a newsletter, or make a donation.

As I noted before, the only explicit prohibition there is in linking. Thus, so long as madjoki isn't associated with the giveaway, he should still be free to mention it in detail in the OP, so long as he doesn't actively encourage or link to the promotion. Note, this arrangement is also why it's fine to mention such sites in the "Where are those giveaways coming from?" thread, so long as they're not linked to. Certainly, the fact that the Where are thread solicits such information makes it a bit different, but that's not a necessary factor as far as the allowance for such information to be provided.

tl;dr version: [Assuming there's not some especially dubious circumstances related to the promotion that I'm unaware of:]
The thread post is currently overcorrected, and doesn't need to be blank. :P

That it is double standards that it can be mentioned there, and not in topics specifically made, even by a company like Square. But double standards is with more things here.

I'm not sure what the matter you're attempting to address is. As I noted in the initial post, it's a consistent rule application, no matter the context. I can't speak to how reliably staff are currently enforcing it relative to the listed rules, but the setup has been fairly reliable through the years I've seen it.

Again, regardless of location, it's fine to note name, context, etc of a promotion or service [excepting when you're directly involved with it]. Encouragement [ie, solicitation] or linking is verbotten, the same way that it is for copyright related or sexual content matters, or similar (which have also been fine to note by name or context, assuming no encouragement or linking).

Trading'd follow a similar rule application, as well- it's fine to note trading as a possibility, or trading sites, but not to solicit trades. Likewise, you can give links so long as they're not to a specific trade or burdened by special requirements and, in the case that the trade isn't your own, you can mention its existence- eg, "I see some offers on SteamTrades that may suit your needs, with at least one offer having the item <$5".

As far as linking within the where are thread, that should be fine so long as it fulfills normal expectations. If there's special requirements, it might be problematic, same as it would be elsewhere- however, perhaps that falls under the solicited request exception that certain site rules have; For example, with "begging", you're allowed an exception if someone offered the item or service first. (Heck, it's even been allowed to solicit promo/referral codes from a poster, so long as they didn't bring it up first- I've personally made such requests, myself.) This would follow a similar structure.

That said, I wouldn't personally think it'd warrant an exception and, moreover, I haven't seen any links in that thread myself, in the instances in which I've checked it. If you're seeing some, that may be something to take up directly with staff.

Is the other one listed as free or something in your license section? This seems to act as a bought game i think, so almost pretty sure. Can't hurt to try eitherway right?

Last time square gave away this game they had a key only license that was the same as it was given away on steam with trading cards disabled. License say promotional bla bla bla if he got it there.

Concidering this is a diffrent license I would assume he can redeem the game even without removing his excisting license.

It has been 6 hours for me with no response. Either they exhausted codes, there was an issue with a bot they had set up, they were selective on who actually got them (like people with higher follower counts), or something. In the end, it was just a marketing ploy by Square to get their event hashtag trending, and it seems to have failed and maybe they just gave up on actually sending the codes out.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, they didn't tweet anything about running out of codes and their announcement gave the the impression, that everyone will get the code as long as they last... so seems like a pretty bad publicity for them, if they don't finally send them. Hopefully, just some bot problem, that they will fix soon.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They actually did another tweet since then saying to Tweet with the hashtag and follow instead of replying to their thread. I did that and still no reply, but we'll see I guess. Im betting it's a priority thing for them tbh. Either that or it's legit one or two people keeping up with thousands of requests?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just saw the tweet and tweeted instead of replying this time now, but I doubt they'll send anything, some people were saying that maybe it was a person sending the keys instead of a bot so who knows (I might believe it at this point 👀)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah. A bot would've sent codes or an automatic "out of codes" message. And a lot of people on Twitter were complaining about not getting a code so it must be luck of the draw or having a bigger following so your message is shown more frequently or something

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Finally they've tweeted me the code 7h ago. Either they have problems sending so many keys at once, or my own twit (not that anyone follows my bogus Twitter account) "Promises, promises, and after 24h+ I'm still waiting for my #SquareEnixPresents" did work the magic ;)

Those are the same games that were free... a year ago or something like that, right? Hmmm maaaaaybe I'll try to get a key. Underworld is the only old Tomb Raider game I've ever played and I liked it. Perhaps those two would be as fun.

Both games are buggy, and Osiris is unplayablely so. But Guardian of Light is a solidly good co-op experience (one of the best ones I've played on PC in recent years, even), with the bugs being far less pronounced than Osiris- so I would recommend giving that a go if you've got a partner for it.

Even if not, it's a passable puzzle game- though some of the more active sections may be a bit more difficult without a partner, and the whole game'll be a lot less fun: After all, the real appeal is in utilizing and coordinating the different ability-sets of the two characters in co-op. If you've ever played Lost Vikings (or even just Trine), it's the same kind of concept, in that managing the party members on your own just isn't near as stimulating. Likewise, the action aspects of the game are far better suited for co-op.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yikes. I don't know if I'll get a key, but if I do, now I'm wondering if I'd want to play those. I remember Underworld was buggy too and the camera was often very annoying. If they're worse than Underworld, I'm not sure I would appreciate them at all. And I'd probably play on my own. If I do get a key, I might just pass it to someone who'd be more interested than me.
