Some areas do it according to the lunar calendar, so August 6 to 8 in some areas.
I think Sendai's Tanabata was relatively famous.

I have "experienced" the lanterns in the sky, but in games (My Τime at, series). I know due to a Chinese production company, it wouldn't be related to Japan, but I thought you'd be celebrating late at night too. I didn't know that and thank you for the information.
