Monopoly is a family favorite, we collect every version we can get our hands on. From the first original, to the WoW version. But my personal favorite by far is the Risk board games. I love the different versions with the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings with all the pieces, it just looks so awesome. But I just found out the existence of Risk: Halo Wars version, must have. >.<

So what's your favourite board game?

Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Castle Ravenloft, Heroquest (got my own pimped out version which rocks), Descent and Ludo with my friends, because we are total douchebags to eachother during this game and it is a lot of fun.

I love me some Power Grid, really good Euro.. Smash up is a good one, awesome deckbuilding interaction. Outpost is amazing auction/economy game for bigger groups.

'Citadels' beats them all. You start playing as friends, you end up as enemies

Battletech
Paranoia: Mandatory bonus fun card game

Cosmic Encounter

Race for the Galaxy

Space Hulk

Go

And on the flip side, you would have to pay me to play Monopoly, Risk & these other common games with poor game mechanics like player elimination (in a long game).
Just thinking of Monopoly gets me in a bad mood. Player elimination, serious lack of depth (obvious optimal strategy), overly length & repetitive, and worst of all, when people think of board games, they think of this, and thus refuse to try any proper ones.

Chess, but I'd suck against anyone who actually knew how to play.

Does putting my laptop on a board count as a board game?

If not then it has to be Monopoly or Risk. I like Monopoly because I enjoy rising to power, but then I rage when my mother comes back and buys the best place and I land on it every damn time... And then in Risk, I rise to power, only for my dad to get lucky rolls every damn time...

Trivial pursuit, because my family would go completely hostile on each other, that's always somewhat entertaining.

I also wanted to know how to play some kind of D&D, looks like who plays it, feels in a real dungeon, wanted to try.

if DM's a good DM then D&D suddenly is awesome

This. It really depends a lot of the DM if the game is good or not. Also, I personally like Warhammer more than D&D.

Arkham Horror, Small World and Carcassonne with its expansions. Agricola is pretty decent too.

Definitely old school Monopoly :D also Settlers of Catan were pretty cool, Munchkin is great (more like card game, but meh :P), Munchkin Quest is fun too and I love Claustrophobia.

I love Risk, but somebody in my group of my friends always has to flip the board. We've moved to a digital version so now I'm just waiting for somebody to throw the tablet out a window.
