These North Korean rocket tests are like my Dad's home-made fireworks.

Everyone for miles around would duck and cover, as no fucker had a clue where those bad boys would end up

Mercifully, it's been a few years since the last batch. The only evidence that's left is a few patches of scorched earth and a scattering of insurance claims...

To be fair, at one time, I think my Dad had a more impressive arsenal in his shed than the entire NZ Army had at their disposal.

Haha, sounds like my Dad with his 'fireballs,' essentially a ball of pumice, soaked in diesel used like a soccer ball.
Good ol' kiwi ingenuity.

So basically he had a shotgun then? I bet the entire NZ army were both really jealous :-p.

If I remember correctly there has already been a meteor thing in Russia.
Looked it up and sure enough... It was called the Tunguska event.

Russia is a little unlucky (Or lucky) in terms of meteors.

What I don't understand is why no-one knew about this, no warning, nothing, I mean someone suppose to monitor the sky.

1 decade ago
Permalink

that's why I think it's a missile. I mean there's hundreds of these meteor monitoring sites but this one get passed under the radar

It might have been too little to detect.

EDIT: Asteroid 2012 DA14 to Fly Near Earth Friday - so the big one hasn't arrived yet. link

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because the asteroid detection system that the earth has only picks up about 1% of everything thats out there. And that 1% is only an estimate. It could be more it could be less, they don't actually know.

The sky is huge and we don't have full coverage of it and during daylight hours they can't really see much.
