Hi!

I've been fiddling with my various PC's lately, most of which are old PC's that I've upgraded in some form, and I was thinking they would benefit from having names to help distinguish them better from one another.

Don't get me wrong, most of my PC's are quite different from each other already, but I think having names makes them easier to talk about--I also think it's a fun idea.

I've even been considering making videos about them. Inspired by the various benchmark videos I've watched when researching graphics cards and processors, as well as Youtube channels such as Low Spec Gamer, PhilsComputerLab, and LGR, I thought it might be neat to make some benchmark videos of my own (with no plans to become a Youtuber, though).

So if this sounds interesting to you, maybe help me out!

Here's what I've got:

My Main Rig:
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
MOBO: GigaByte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i7 4790K (stock)
RAM: 32GB G.SKILL TridentX DDR3 1600
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC (3-Way SLI)
CASE: Rosewill ARMOR-EVO

An ASUS Vivostick:
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
CPU: Intel Atom x5-Z8350 (1.44GHz base clock, quad-core, no hyperthreading)

GPU: Integrated in CPU

A Dual-Socket Pentium III PC:
OS: Windows XP SP3
MOBO: SuperMicro P3TDDE
CPU: Two Intel Pentium III (1.4GHz stock)
RAM: 4GB PC133 ECC SDRAM
GPU: HIS HD 4670 IceQ 1GB

An Upgraded HP Pavilion Elite m9040n:
OS: Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 64-bit (at the moment--will change temporarily if I do benchmarks)
MOBO: IPIBL-LA (Berkeley)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz, no hyperthreading, can't overclock on this board)
RAM: 8GB DDR2 800
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 FTW (1GB VRAM)

A Dell PowerEdge T410 Server:
OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 (will have to change to something else when trial period ends)
CPU: Two Xeon X5650 (2.67GHz, each is a hexa-core with hyperthreading)
RAM: 48GB DDR3 ECC 1333MHz
GPU: MSI GeForce GT 1030 2GD4 LP OC 2GB (DDR4 version because of 25W restriction)

An Upgraded Dell Studio XPS 435MT:
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
CPU: Xeon W3580 (3.33GHz, quad-core with hyperthreading)
RAM: 12GB DDR3 (tri-channel configuration)
GPU: PNY OC2 GeForce GTX 770 4GB Edition

An HP Pavilion dv6500 notebook:
OS: Windows 7 32-Bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, dual core, no hyperthreading)
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800
GPU: 256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS

I also have an upgraded HP Pavilion Elite m9600t running Windows 10 64-bit with a Core i7 970, but it already has a name. ;)

For those interested:

My main rig was built from the ground up by me.

I bought the Vivostick because I wanted to see it in action. This thing is the size of a candy bar!

The Dual P3 rig was built by me as a pet project, for the purpose of seeing such a strange rig in action.

All the HP PC's were given to me by friends and family (used).

The Dell 435MT was also given to me. I might use it for Pro Tools.

The Dell PowerEdge Server I bought for the sake of having a system with an obscene amount of cores, and didn't do quite enough research beforehand. I might use it for video editing or as a file server, or just get rid of it.

Just thought I'd post some notes I wrote while brainstorming recently.

Main Rig: Trident-- 3-way SLI, Trident RAM, fairly powerful

VivoStick: maybe something to do with candy bars

Dual Pentium 3: Dualatin, Double Header, something to do with Gemini

Core 2 Quad: Quincy (the PC used to be my mother's. Quincy was a show she used to watch)

T410 Server: Hydra

Dell 435MT: maybe something that means standard, reliable, good enough, etc.

HP notebook: maybe something that means underdog. It's weak, but not quite worthless.

Posting pics of them might help :)

LOL. They're pretty much a collection of black and beige boxes.

Though I did consider I could give them paint-jobs in the future, whether scenes, characters, or some sort of color scheme.

It still could help with names though. Like my friend had an extremely thin laptop and he called it Slim lol.

I usually try to pick names from a group of related characters. My systems in the past ten years or so have been named after the malebranche of Dante's Divine Comedy. A friend named his after the Eva units from Evangelion.

Characters from a favorite movie or series works fairly well, imho.

That's an interesting idea!

I'm not sure there's anything I'm attached to that much that would work, but a neat idea, nonetheless!
