Hey guys. I'm thinking about buying the first Lost Planet game, because I really want to play them in the right order (I do this with most games series, even if the story is not connected). Now there's two editions:
The Standard Edition and
The Colonies Edition
Now I'm not sure which one I should buy. The Colonies Edition seems to offer more content for the same price, but also uses GFWL (which is usually a No-Go!)
But I am only interested in Single Player Mode, so if GFWL only affects MP i wouldn't care. Does anyone know if I can still play the Colonies Edition in Single Player Mode? Which one should i buy? halp pls :'(

At least in my country they are exactly the same price (3,74€).
But the Colonies Edition also has lots of people complaining about the game not working due to GFWL DRM, while other reviews (older and newer ones) don't mention any problems. I really don't know what to do :D

According to the Steam discussion forums for both games, you can still play both games single-player, but if you want to play multi-player then you should get Colonies. Apparently not many people still play the standard edition in multiplayer.

Well that would make Colonies Edition the better choice for single and multi player. I'm still a little confused why the Colonies Edition ( which is obviously newer) would use DX9 and GFWL while the older Version supports DX10 and is free of any 3rd Party DRM?

I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the Dx9 version and the Dx10 version. If I'm not mistaken, the game was released alongside Dx10, so it probably wasn't even fully utilized yet.

I'd just go with whichever has the game features for which you're looking rather than Dx version.

If it uses GFWL -colonies- on multi and there are people saying they use it, the question is when those comments were posted. Other games like DoW2 moved to steam.

And how they manage to play in multi using GFWL? Or those comments only talk about not colonies edition?

From what I read, the GFWL is still working for multi.
You just can't create new accounts is all. You'll have to already have an account.

I don't really know anything about GFWL. Is is a different account from the microsoft accounts used on the 360.

No, it should be the same thing.
I never played online on my 360, though, so don't quote me on it.

It's just a Microsoft Live account as far as I know.

Yeah that's what I thought, just a Microsoft account. Don't understand why they couldn't make a new account. Might look into later..

I played this game when extreme condition first came out and I would say I don't think it matters which one you get. I would recommend getting the cheapest version because it is interesting and a good story but I bet the online multiplayer is dead so you probably wont be playing it much, just for the single player for a run.

Same price.

There isn't like a regular extreme condition without the standard of colonies edition?

Nope! If just one were a bit cheaper wouldn't be topic. I remind to do the same checking as OP when watched the sale, was curious :D

You're buying through Steam, right?
Get Colonies, see if it works without problems for an hour and a half, and if it does, keep it. If not, refund it and get Standard.

Think that'd do, right? :)

Flip side, Extreme Condition is a full game, even if it may be missing a few add-ons, and it works reliably. So if you don't want to gamble, that's your best option.

(Note: I've played neither.)
