At $2.99 you can't go wrong. Some people seem to love it to ridiculous degrees, while I mostly just found it to be fun but not amazing. Either way, the price is worth the amount of entertainment you'll get out of it, although I wouldn't pay full price for it.

It is $3. I don't know what to say if you don't have $3 left over on a card unless you never had one in the first place and used giftcards

Dungeon defenders is a sort of combination of FPS and tower defense.
Gameplay can get frantic in the harder levels, especially when playing with friends as the number of monsters spawned will increase (depending on the number of players connected). I got it with a couple of friends during the christmas sale, and we've put in almost 300 hours since then. There are many different ways to build each hero, and its very simple to restat your heroes.
Leveling up your hero can get boring, though (especially from 70 -> 74). We found ourselves grinding on the same map quite a bit. However, the first 70 levels are fairly simple to achieve.
Bad thing about Dungeon Defenders is the amount of hackers and hacked items floating around. Of course, you never have to actually play with them.
Trendy.net also lacks dedicated servers, which means that if you want to play with friends, one of you is going to have to host it. If your internet connection isn't very good, you're going to be suffering lag. Horrendous lag.

Great game in my opinion, i had very much fun with it... Also gamers that play it are nice folks in most cases, eveyone is friendly n stuff.

From what I've read Dungeon Defenders is not a good tower defense game. So since you haven't had much fun with TD games I don't see how a mediocre one would somehow be good for you.
Steer clear of this pile.
I've read Orcs Must Die is a TD game that is actually good, though (if you don't mind the over-the-shoulder view). Save your $2.99 for when that goes on sale.
edit: Also, if you have to play with friends for a game to be good, then it's not a good game.

In terms of replay value, DD is the winner here.
Multiplayer, LAN, mod support, boss fight, loots, trading system, pets, variable classes, free festive DLCs etc.

Great game, so worth 3$. I loved it so much I bought 3 extra copies to give away.

Same, I pre-purchased it and played since release.

It's fun and I think you can enjoy it atleast for 50 hours ( if you do the campaign and challenge to insane level ) but after you reach 70+ become a endless farm quest for equip.. and the new dlc and the nightmare mode are going on the same way.

It's worth my 500 (and counting) hours.
Feel free to add me if you want!

The game will give you more than enough entertainment for $3 worth, but they are basically hoping you will end up buying some, most, or all of the paid DLC. 90% of it which should be FREE anyway. I bought this game early on and there was some balance issues between classes, but then TrendyEnt added new maps with better items and never tested them properly and the item levels doubled. This happened 2 or 3 times. Now, they are trying to pretend that was intended and adding more difficulties to cover it up. The weapon and gear levels are insanely unbalanced now and the mob levels get incredibly time consuming.

Nice to know that you can see the future. You could make a lot of money with that skill.

Except they've already announced it... 3 more DLC packs (for a total of 4 in a particular series) that will most likely be priced at $4 each.
Not to mention they seem to like putting out Holiday Packs for $2 each, and I assume they'd pick up some other holidays that they haven't gotten around to yet.

Holiday events are always free when they are released. They only charge them after a while, so you can get them for free. Won't even comment on the fact that you are implying that 4$ = expensive.

It's only expensive if they don't add content to the game. I'd be more than happy to pay 4$ for new levels and/or challenges.
Also, you implied 4$ is expensive, since DarkArrow said there are lots of expensive DLCs coming.

I picked up the game based on your recommendations and I must say I'm having a lot of fun with it. Thanks guys! I think the loot, stats, and such were the biggest draw. Reminds me of Diablo 2.

I saw the $2.99 deal on Amazon and I have a few questions for those who own it. I appreciate the feedback.
I never had much fun with TD games like Plants vs. Zombies, Defense Grid, and others like it. They all seem kind of slow-paced, hands-off, and utilize trial & error strategies.
How is Dungeon Defenders in terms of action? Is it frantic gameplay? Would a TD stick in the mud like myself enjoy it?
Thanks.
