This week :O?
I know it's most likely confirmation bias but I can't help getting a bit salty when the very few series I enjoy get canceled and most trash keep running forever

most trash keeps running forever
Dark Matter: Nine seasons and a movie!
Nevermind, that was cancelled too. But in this case somewhat understandably.

Coincidentally, I was just looking into that series since it's under "People who liked this also liked... " for The Expanse. I feel like this section works better for IMDB than Steams recommendations does though. It has Battlestar Galactica, which is probably my favorite Sci-Fi series, Altered Carbon and Westworld in this group which is all excellent series as far as I am concerned.

Well, they were both Space Operas with basically no aliens so they do have a few things in common but I just couldn't stand this "We're the crew of the Raza!" and we can topple galaxies - stuff they kept repeating every episode without ever explaining or showing why that's supposed to be soo badass. Let alone the amnesia trope. But due to the lack of good Space Operas recently I still kept watching it occasionally.
I had not heard of Altered Carbon yet. Thanks for bringing it to my attention ;)

Fair warning, I had pretty low expectations going in and the quality kind of took me by surprise so I might be a bit biased by that. Also, imho, it drops off a bit towards the end, as usual, but considering this is only the first season it's a bit alarming. I'm actually not sure if there are any more seasons planned.

Well, many shows have bad first seasons so a underwhelming season finale doesn't necessarily mean anything.
For example Gotham Season 1 was yawn-tastic but by now the show turned out quite nicely in my opinion.
Guess I'll just check it out and see :)

From what I understood, Altered Carbon was planned for only one season. That said, the book it's based on does have 2 sequels that are mostly self-contained stories, so they do have material for at least 2 more seasons if they want to make them.

Babylon 5, one of the first story arch driven scifi shows.

Yeah, one of my buddies told me yesterday.
Guess I'll have to switch to the books. Seven volumes and counting.

Never really liked The Expanse. But as long as Z Nation got their 5th season. I can be happy./

Just to back my claim: http://deadline.com/2018/05/the-expanse-canceled-syfy-after-three-seasons-to-be-shopped-1202388026/
Personally I'd say that the best bet is Netflix taking the show over completely. Unlikely that another tv network would be satisfied with the limited "first-run linear rights in the U.S.".

F@ck!!! I love that show, and unlike most adaptations nowadays (The Mist, The Walking Dead, Preacher) it actually follows the books. I hope they don´t try to put together some quick ending and just finish the season where/how it was supposed to so that maybe another network can pick it up and continue following the books (I believe they are still on book 2 and there are at least 5 so far plus several novellas and short stories). :(

I hope Amazon or Netflix picks it up because I'm about done with paying for cable. I don't watch a lot of TV anyway, but most of what I watch(ed) was either on AMC or SyFy. My cable co. dropped AMC a couple of years ago and I'm just now getting caught up with the shows I was watching because it seems like what's on Netflix from AMC is about 2 seasons behind.
After my Cable co. dropped AMC, and a few new shows I liked on other channels got canceled, I decided not to start watching any new shows on Cable. Once the shows I'm currently watching either get canceled or end their series, I'm dropping cable. It's just not worth it. I only have basic cable, but everything I watch is (or was) only on 5 channels, two of which I can get free over the air. Now I'm down to just 3 channels (one of which is available OTA), as shows I was watching on the others have ended and I have not starting watch anything new.

Dude, just drop cable and keep Inet. There are plenty of websites out there to stream only what you want to see without commercials. Let me know if you need a hand finding them.

Well a couple of years ago I looked into it and all the shows I watched eventually made it to Amazon or Netflix, but they are usually one or two seasons behind. I didn't want to have to wait that long to catch up, and there's no guarantee that Amazon or Netflix would still be carrying the shows by then, so I decided to just ride it out. Most shows these days are wrapped up in 3-5 seasons anyway.
It's not so simple now. My cable co. is my ISP, and you know the shady shit they're up to these days. They charge more for internet service without cable, but it would still be cheaper. However, with the unknown fate of Net Neutrality right now, pretty soon I might not be able stream Amazon or Netflix if my ISP decides to extort them to deliver their content on the fast lane and they refuse to pay. And/or they could decide to make me pay a fee to have access to Netflix and Amazon.

If you know where to look, you can stream every station live for free, or what i do, download in HD about an hour after the episode airs. So, if Game of Thrones airs at 9pm EST, around 10:30pm EST I start to download it. The farthest behind I get is a couple hours. =D
I mean hell, I was going to pay for MLB.tv but the jackholes have me, here in Syracuse NY in a blackout zone so I wouldn't even be able to watch my Mets play... So, I stream the games for free instead, there are quite a few sites and its all 720p or better, with about a 10 second delay is all.
I do have Netflix and I have Prime as well, but that is as far as I am going to go. I haven't had cable TV in about 10 years, probably saved myself a small fortune just downloading and streaming everything.
Don't count net neutrality out. Some states are implementing their own NN laws and some are big economies like here in NY. A lot of companies could ignore compliance with things like that but they typically won't pigeon hole their business growth. It's just good business to expand your market.

Yes I know where to get things, I did that for the first season of one of the AMC shows after it was dropped. I actually didn't find out AMC was dropped until the season started and I went to watch the first episode of the season and instead of the show it was some kind of sports show. About half of the channel lineup was already sports channels I didn't watch and was pretty pissed when they replaced AMC with yet another sports channel I won't watch.
I don't watch live TV, I record it on my DVR and watch it later. I don't watch that much TV, so I get behind a bit. I'll usually watch an episode several days after it records. Right now there are only three shows being recorded. One of them gets priority and I watch it if it's available, otherwise I alternate between the other two. I'm actually behind 2 weeks on the other two episodes because I either haven't had the time or been in the mood to watch TV.
Unfortunately I don't live in a state that is implementing, or is even likely to implement, it's on net neutrality rules. We don't have big name cable providers like Comcast here. I live in a small town just outside of a large city. Comcast serves the city, but they wouldn't push out to the smaller towns. The local cable co. eventually got around to setting up broadband around 2002-2003ish. Though the name is the same, they were bought out a long time ago by some larger corp. that bought up a lot of small local cable cos. I don't know their position on net neutrality, but I like to think with them being a small time player in the game, they would be for it since it seems like it would be beneficial to them to keep the big boys in line.
I had hoped that one of the other states would put a clause in their net neutrality laws that they wouldn't do business with a company that violates their net neutrality standards anywhere. As far as I know, no net neutrality laws, passed or proposed, have such a clause.
AT&T moved in a few years ago and began offering their u-verse junk. At first it only covered a small part of the town, and the higher speeds were even farther limited. Now I think they cover the whole town. It did force the cable co. to up their game and luckily they didn't get squeezed out because I hate AT&T. When AT&T started to advertise their arrival, our standard speed was 1Mbit. Within days of an AT&T u-verse flier showing up on my door, the cable co. upgraded the standard speed to 10Mbit. A year later it went up to 20Mbit, then 30Mbit where it still is now. AT&T offers the same exact speeds for the same exact price, and it's been pretty stagnant since that first little race.
The problem with a lot of ISPs is that they don't want to expand or compete, that costs money. They want to hold what they have and rake in profits. Although we had a bit of competition here that drove speeds up while prices stayed the same, AT&T offers faster u-verse speeds in other state, and it's not like my cable co. is a using type of copper cable than Comcast, who can offer 300Mbit. I think after their brief little race, AT&T and my cable co. agreed to call a truce and stop one-upping the other, so they didn't have to expand or upgrade.

They are all shady, what sucks the worst I think are the lack of any choices. Not sure why internet access in the US is held back so much, there is an entire commercial market not being served because cheap ISP companies want to wait for tax relief for building any infrastructure; and/or wait until the govt funds it....
It is all so archaic too, these cable companies locking you in for contracts, to channels you dont want or need; they could easily change things to be more a la carte but the sales pitch is still from 1988... ^^

Never heard of it until now, but it looks interesting.
I don't watch TV shows very often anymore because every one I like gets cancelled (still miss Stargate Universe) :(

That's too bad, but I am more sad about "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" (BBC America) being canceled. I loved this series and two seasons just wasn't enough. I can't believe this series gets canceled and yet "Dr. Who" goes on forever with (in my opinion) very few good episodes.

I'll watch anything Dirk Gently (or Douglas Adams), but that series was just bizarre and needlessly convoluted. But I would really like the Stephen Mangan series back.

That reminds me that I need to catch up on the books. I read through Nemesis Games, but that puts me a year and a half, and two novels, out of date. I hope I can recall the plotlines well enough.
Sorry, but I never got into the show. I watched all of season 1, but just couldn't be bothered to watch season 2.

honestly, i thought the second's seasons writing left a fair bit to be desired in the character development department, although it was still an enjoyable enough show. I havent started watching season 3 yet, but i hope its better than 2. wonder if season 3 has some kind of conclusion to it.

Oh I posted below and was hoping something like this would happen. Fingers crossed. Love Amazon's streaming service and the stuff they produce, although sometimes they're in a hurry to cancel shows I like too (bye Last Tycoon and Good Girls' revolt :/ )

Sorry for the bump- but as a greater man than I once said, GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!
Looks like Amazon Prime has picked up the show for a 5th season!
Happy times for some of you all.
