This is the second time I've been demoted. Apparently when I gave away depoina a while back, it had the wrong value, which is fine I suppose. Now I just went from level 4 to level 3 for no reason that I can see. Does everyone else randomly lose levels or is it just me? Also, I pick the slowest checkout line in the store.

I see you've given away a lot of bundled games lately. They may not have been on the bundled list yet when your giveaways ended. Other than that, I'm not sure.

  • Sometimes you can give away a bundle game before the one Support member updating the list has added it. When he does add it, the value for that drops. But without recent giveaways, this is unlikely.
  • Some games will have a pack on sale that goes lower than the game by itself. Because of how Valve passes on data with their API, the value for those games will go up as they now report the pack price. Since you have given Deponia, which did that recently, this is the most likely problem.

So rather than losing levels, you are gaining them when you shouldn't. Even have a L4 win, so you really can't complain.

Deponia has been given away for free. Doesn't that influence his lvl?

No, because he gave it before it was free. He did give it after it was bundled though, so he only gets 15% value for it, but he gave it when it cost money. If he gave it when free, it would be removed.

you forgot that games can get their value on steam lowered... or go free on steam.
Dota2 is a good example

Other than retroactive addition to free/bundle lists, as noted above, the main reason for level shifts is due to this:
CV is pulled from the steam store retail value.
If that changes [ex, a game lowering retail over time], your CV from it drops.
Likewise, temporary shifts in retail value (like free play weekends) also will [temporarily] affect it.
And sometimes the steam store just bugs and sends the wrong value for a while. :X

Ok, good to know. I had thought once the CV was recorded and official, that's what it was. I knew there were retroactive updates to fix mistakes but I didn't realize it was an ongoing process for all price changes. I suppose people that gave away full copies of DOTA2 back in the day had to be pretty annoyed. :)
Thanks!

I was at level 2 when I gave away my third game. Now after the 2 weeks after so, I'm somehow at level 1 again. It's annoying.

Your value was boosted by a game with the wrong value, it being listed with the price of a much higher pack for a short period. You didn't lose a level, you had a level you should have gotten in the first place.
