Got some friends coming over for the weekend, gonna eat some junk food, swear loudly, and play games before going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up to a healthy, balanced breakfast.

But we need some help with the "games" part. Earlier tonight, I grabbed a handful of Humble Paradox Bundles, so we'll probably do some Showdown Effect, Magicka, and/or Dungeonland. Everyone has a copy of The Ship, Plain Sight, and Awesomenauts. I'll be hooking up Jamestown and Castle Crashers to the big TV at some point. What else have you folks got?

Bonus points if the game is cheap, F2P, or on sale somewhere right now.

(Allan, please add rant about Saints Row 3 only allowing two players at once)

  • The Showdown Effect
  • Magicka
  • Dungeonland
  • The Ship
  • Plain Sight
  • Awesomenauts
  • Jamestown
  • Castle Crashers
  • Wanderlust Rebirth
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Monaco

Spelunky on Steam... do we all need to own a copy or can we just play on the same PC at once?

Just one copy. It actually doesn't have online multiplayer anyway.

This! Had a recent LAN party as well, had so much fun playing this considering none of us are very stealthy

Oh heck! At least two of us have this, that's a really good idea! I might buy a few more copies...

L4D can be pretty fun, but I'm not sure how it'd work with more than one person on the same computer, etc. Killing floor is also a fun survival / killing game.

Yeah, that's really all I can suggest.

Yeah, local multiplayer can mean different things. I meant multiplayer that doesn't necessarily require an online connection. Steam and Co-Optimus use the terms in different ways.

Friendship is definitely not Magicka. :P
You could also add any Trackmania to this list, some are F2P.
If you also have the Origin Bundle, try out Burnout, incredibly fun with friends.

Eh, I should say that we played it in private Freeroam that time, so I think there is a possibility that it doesn't have a LAN-mode, Google says similar, sorry. :(

I don't understand, if we all own a copy... do we need to set up a private server or something?

Nah, sadly this game just doesn't have an LAN function on the PC version...
You can't play it offline multi player, sorry for getting you excited. :/
The freeroam is online multi player, I just remembered it now.~

A true LAN staple. I think 100% of the people coming over this weekend were present when I got my ass roflstomped by Herbert the music professor several years ago. That dude was a wizard with a rocket launcher.

Garry's mod can be really fun if you like that kind of thing. Its on sale for $2.50 but trouble in terrorist town is the best mode and it really only works well if you have counter strike source. you can get the textures for CS:S online from http://80.235.60.29/cscheater/downloads.html . But idk, TTT is pretty much only fun with a lot of people

That would explain why my previous attempts at TTT have best been characterized as ERROR hitting the ERROR.

Torchlight 2 is always a fun thing to play with friends, however it gets a little repetitive (like any title similar in that style) if you play for extended periods of time e.g. 4 hours straight and i reckon it'd be boring

I think we all have this, so it shouldn't be too hard to get together.

If it's an actual LAN party, with games connecting through LAN and not internet you can have more games to play.

I mean that you can connect one Steam account as online and 3 instances of the same account as Offline and you will all have the same games, but the only way you could play them will be through LAN. Now I've checked your games list and I didn't find anything I would enjoy to play through LAN, but maybe your friends have something on their steam accounts.

I personally recommend Flatout 2. It's perfect for LAN, perfect!

You have a great list overall. I don't know much about Wanderlust, but the rest are great party games.

Anything in the Worms series. Best party games I've played on a machine, I think.
Soldat for a game that's better (in most ways) than Showdown Effect, but very similar. It's free unless you want costumes and custom fire colors.
Terraria if you're willing to play just one game for half a day.
Blacklight: Retribution if you don't mind playing with strangers as well.

We've got a couple casuals, I think Dota is probably out of the question. But Flatout and Age of Empires might work :)
