Last month we have beaten all records again \o/ good job to everyone who participated! We also had a super close poll for the theme but in the end one of them pulled ahead :)

  • 10189 achievements have been achieved
  • 1967.2 hours have been played
  • 192 games have been beaten
  • 77 people have participated and beaten at least one game.

Hope to see you all again this month :)

Due to timezones/people not being online 24/7 I am still accepting any edits/applications for July for the next couple of days (till the July thread is closed).

The theme for this month is

Fridays For Future

(Thank you to Moony1986 for the suggestion!)

Games that qualify for it are:
Games released, won or bundled on a Friday - Check day of the week, SG bundle list, IsThereAnyDeal, Barter.vg
Games playing in the future
Economy
Education
Multiple Endings
Open World
Politics
Rebellion
Resource Management
Science
Survival
Team-based
Nordic themed games (Vikings, Mythology, Naval etc.)

Don't have any game that fits the theme?

For this month I have decided to let people play their normal backlog games in case no win qualifies. Please use the "Note" section when submitting the game to inform me of this situation.

You can submit this months games you are going to play here:

https://pagywosg.xyz/events/3

I would still appreciate if you list the games you are going to play bellow just in case something goes wrong (yes, I do have backups of the site, but it only backups once a day) and so I can quickly reply you to the comment in case of any issues with the games.

FAQ.

Don't want to login into the site?

No worries, you can just leave the names of the games you are going to play in the comments bellow and I will add you into to the site myself at the end of the month.

Theme for September

In the poll below you can vote which theme you would like to be the theme for next month. You can find the original comments here:

Theme for October

Do you think you have a good idea for a theme for October? Leave it in the comments bellow. If I get more than 1 suggestion I will list them in the poll next month and the one with the most votes will become October's theme.

If you don't mind I will throw my 2 cents here:

I was here - have the walkthrough at hand, some pictures are obscure as hell

Northern tale - this one is great :)

Pottery Craft: can be really buggy, I hope you won't have too many issues with it.

I guess that I have about 20 unfinished / unplayed games that I won on Friday :)
So far I will start with a few games and maybe add something later.
Linelight - won it at July 26.
Overclocked: A History of Violence - won it at July 19.

It occurs to me that confirming all the games were released on a Friday could be a little nightmare!
But Little Nightmares was released on a Friday.
So I'm playing Little Nightmares.
On Friday. ~(Maybe. 😁)~~

It's not that it's boring, but it's a bit slow, and it's like a puzzle game - you gradually unlock more settings and bigger worlds by achieving goals if I remember correctly.

i-gnorant i'd say.

look at this: https://store.steampowered.com/publisher/abbeygames

this is perfect, tho, and can really vouch. i think Renowned Explorers is one of the most "game" of all the games i've ever played. a rare "pure game". (and Starlynk jumps in ... again!, or one of those gifts you'll always remember, even if just a game)

but now my daily-steam-program is completely messed up. thanks so much, adam :/

Just started Assassins Creed Origins, but I still plan to make time to play a few wins. Reserving a spot until I figure out which ones fit the theme.
Edit: I think Observer fits the future and survival theme. I'd like to try Republique, and after reading some reviews I feel like it falls under politics/rebellion.

And the rest I won on Fridays:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf

  • Snake Pass (need to finish it)

Comment has been collapsed.

well I have EGEST installed and one of the functions I activated is that I get shown current deals and old bundle info through is there any deal on the GA site.

But you can also look up the info directly through https://isthereanydeal.com/game/snipereliteiii/info/

link is for sniper elite 3 just to show you how it works.

And then you just have to look up the date and if this was a Friday or not.
HB monthly and Indigala Friday Special are obvviously alsways bundled on Fridays.

sorry to disturb you but i found dates only for historical low and some bundles name that contains the game but bit found bundle date. Am i miss something???

Comment has been collapsed.

you are right here, sorry I was on mobile when I previously replied and didn't study the site completely and also did not have a lot more time. Armed with the name of the bundle go to the SG Forums and look up the name. Luckily we have a lot of really helpful people that make threads with the bundle names and dates. There you should find the needed dates and then it's about checking in a calender if that date was a Friday. Though this is really complecated. Far easier is to go for the Won on a Friday (simply check when you won the game) or realeased on a Friday (you can get the release date from steam store page) themes. Or just look for games from Humble Bundel monthly, since those are realeased on Fridays.

  • I start with ICY: Frostbite Edition. 0.1 hours and 0 achievements on it, so it's close to a clear start :3 - and completed it
Funny how the game ended up more or less belonging ot these categories: Games playing in the future, Economy, Multiple Endings, (kinda) Open World, Politics, Rebellion, Resource Management, Survival, Team-based :D
  • Started and finished On Rusty Trails - bundled on Dec 1, 2017 which seems to be a Friday :)
  • Finished the main story of Party Hard but it's not qualified. But I'm proud :D
  • Fnished Last Knight: Rogue Rider Edition. Released on 3 Oct, 2014 which is a Friday :)
+Finished Pixel Puzzles: Japan FINALLY, it was a struggle. Many-many shoulderpats but does not qualify
  • Finished Blood Knights - unqualified

I'm not sure I've said it before, but I love the silly requirements, like hello world!'s power of two point requirement in addition to the more conventional ones. It makes a little game out of finding eligible games, with very likely many options ^^
For the current option "Games released, won or bundled on a Friday" this tool may be useful: https://www.timeanddate.com/date/weekday.html

I'll play:

  • 12 Labours of Hercules IV: Mother Nature (Platinum Edition) - Resource Management
  • The Deed - Multiple Endings
  • Linelight - Bundled on Friday (Jun 9, 2017)
  • Niche - a genetics survival game - Science. Some games are just too good to finish in one month :)

End-of-moth edit: Completed two of these. Niche's achievements are bugged though, which is kind of frustrating. I'm shelving it for a while hoping the devs come up with a fix.

Love is Dead Games bundled on Friday not yet started -
RiME Games released on Friday not yet started -
Little Nightmares Games released on Friday 1.8 hours playtime -
ASTRONEER Survival & resource management 2.8 hours playtime possibly open-ended
Project Highrise Resource management 5.6 hours playtime possibly open-ended
Oxygen Not Included Survival, resource management & science 9.3 hours playtime possibly open-ended

I haven't decided which game to go for yet, but his should stay here so that I have an idea what I can play.
Also, a little question: when do we count open-ended games as beaten?

Ooooh Astroneer! Play that :P
I tend to count open-ended games as beaten at a certain point I feel I've seen a fair bit of the game. For Staxel, I did it once I got to Winter, as I then had seen every season :)

What if I'm just going here and there and not actually progressing in the said game? XD

Time to finish the Journey Down then. It is set in the future (kinda), it is about economy, rebellion, and survival (trying to not get killed by a greedy megacorp), and I bought it like a trillion years ago, so it is time to get around to it.

Hmm, many more options this month. Of the games I have that qualify, I think I'm interested in:

Game Category Status Notes
911 Operator Released, won, bundled on Friday Verified Also won the DLC released and bundled on the same day, on a different Friday!
Almost There: The Platformer Bundled on Friday Beaten oh god never again I don't care how shiny the stars are
Dandara Bundled on Friday Verified Going to be hard due to atrocious keyboard controls.
Finding Paradise Bundled on Friday Verified
Planets Under Attack Science (steampunk in space counts, right?) Playing
Glass Masquerade Released, bundled on Friday Completed Qualifying base game for SG win (Heritages Puzzle Pack).
Slide!! Released on Friday Playing Bad controls seem to be a theme this month
The Chambers Won on Friday Beaten

What's the policy on DLC wins, by the way? I have a DLC that doesn't meet any of the standards, but the base game was released and bundled on a Friday. Does that count? (I couldn't find anything about DLC in the FAQ.)

End-of-Month Summary:
This month turned out to be much busier than expected (which I should have expected, really) so I didn't even get to touch several of the games I planned to at least try. Of the ones I started but didn't finish, Planets Under Attack hit me with an extraordinary difficulty spike in level 10, and Slide!! is just bad, suffering from mobile controls and ridiculously tight timing.

Next month: School is getting intense already. I won't have much time for games at all, so next month I'll be less ambitious and focus more on having fun.

sight another thing I have been meaning to add to the FAQ but forgot. As long as the base game fits it is fine to submit it (submit the base game ofc, you can't submit DLC anyways). Please just write in the notes that you won the DLC so I know when approving.

One little request from you before I verify Glass Masquerade. Can you give me an rough estimate how much it was played before August? Since you played it both at the end of July and in August there is no way for me to tell from the "playtime in the last 2 weeks" :/

Yeah I didn't notice it was August already when I fired it up last. I'm cool with just starting the clock from where it stands right now, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was probably about an hour?

White Night 3/33 48 minutes Survival Unfinished Not bad :/ But, I guess I'll have to play it straight through one game session, next time...
Molecule - A Chemical Challenge 17/40 4 Hours Science Unfinished / Uncompleted
StockUp Level 20/20 (No achievements) 4 Hours (Total) Ressource Management Finished / Completed Actually, I didn't even expect this... :p - Still a trash-game, anyway.

Back at it again and have selected some games from my library that would fit the bill. Haven't entirely decided yet what to play, so I'll add them to the site when I've properly scrutinezed my selection process. Listing them like this for now in case there's some that won't fit the theme I thought they would. :)

Game Achievements Hours of Playtime Subcategory Status
Homefront 25/47 5.5 Playing in the future, Rebellion Beaten
Resident Evil 5 35/70 13.9 Released on Friday¹ Beaten

¹ Released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the NA and EU regions on March 13, 2009

  • Academia (This one is high on my list)
  • Seeds of Resilience
  • Parkitect
  • Niche
  • 60 Seconds Reatomized (This one doesn't have the resource tag on steam, but I would say it is resource management because you have 60 seconds to pick up the resource with which you think you'll survive)

First timer here :)
Since I already try to play as many wins as possible looking at you Hard Room. Why oh why did I decide to enter that GA... but well, at least I got the results :), it should be a good idea to participate in the event. So, here it goes:

Name Achievements obtained Hours of Playtime Subcategory Status ScreenShot (spoiler alert)
12 Labours of Hercules II: The Cretan Bull 22/22 8.3h Resource Management Completed Steam
12 Labours of Hercules III: Girl Power 22/22 8.1h Resource Management Completed Steam
Savage Lands 20/20 21.5h Survival; Open World Completed* Steam1; Steam2
Spirit of the Ancient Forest --- 8.4h Won on a Friday; Jan 5th, 2018 Beaten Steam
Scanner Sombre --- 2.8h HB Monthly (Oct, 2017) Beaten Steam To avoid spoilers, it has a visible NG+ section.
Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden 20/20 7.0h Bundled on a Friday, Friday Special #6 Completed Steam
Cook, Serve, Delicious! 52/52 40.1h Resource Management Completed Steam
TOTAL: 136/136 96.2h 7/7

*Savage Lands. Ok, this one is a really strange entry. To tell the truth, I did not finish it. Just could not find all gatekeepers and their hidden portals (still missing one), without the gatekeeper "keys" I could not progress to another act. However, somehow developers did not create any end game achievements (maybe it will change with a full game release, after all, it is still in the Early Access stage). So, I decided to use a "workaround" and went with a Completed status, instead of Beaten :)
First screenshot is for the hardest/rarest achievement and my "kill spot". Had to use a high ground, since I was a bit undergeared for a 1vs1 combat.
The second one simply displays some building/crafting items and achievements.

The challenge has been completed! Well... kinda :) Had to improvise with Savage Lands :)
Overall, enjoyed most of them. I will definitely participate in the future events as well, just maybe start with a few games, instead of several :)

Some nominations:
Best game - Cook, Serve, Delicious!. It might look like a cheap flash game, but it was really addictive and challenging (at least some recipes), the game has that "one more round" feeling, where you play several hours, instead of that one round :D
Worst game - Spirit of the Ancient Forest. It was bad, really bad. Repetitive and borefest. In fact, everything (art, story and so on) was taken from another game.
Most unique experience - Scanner Sombre. Should be fun with a VR set :) But it was still an impressive journey, even without a VR.

I love this Friday theme! Moony1986 did a great job picking this one out ;) Plus resource management games are my favorite (Might be because my major was Business - Accounting) Here's the games I'm going to go with this month:

  1. Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - Bundled on 28/11/2014 (Friday) - Very close to beating this one. One final episode to go through.
  2. Caravan - An Economy based game since you trade in cities depending on prices of goods. I think I'm finally ready to close the book on this.
  3. Dead in Bermuda - Resource Management game. I think I'm close to beating this one as well or maybe not.
  4. FreeHolder - Won on Friday 2/8/2019 - The summary sounds exciting.

I'm assuming we can more whenever down the line? (I'm also assuming you actually check that the games fit the theme and we can't just add any game? Because I really want to play Celeste but I don't know how to fit it in hahaha)
Edit: aha! Celeste released on a Friday so I'm gucci :p

I'll just answer instead of mouse. Yes all games are manually verified, first if it is actually a SG win (and if not have you played all your theme related SG wins already, because then you can participate most of the time also with your backlog games) and secondly if it fits the current theme. If you are a nice player you'll leave a comment why you think it fits 😉 This makes mouse's life so much easier.
And also the status of your game (unfinished, beaten, completed) , will be manually verified. By the way you can add new games at any time. You can add a bunch of games that fit the theme at once or one after the other. Whatever you like best.

Oh and welcome back to the event 😁

You can submit games you already started (as long as you are not like 95%). As for the multiple ending thing: it is fine as long as the ending screen tells you a different ending thing that happened if that makes any sense?

Would "Gold Rush! Classic" count as a game with multiple endings? Apparently, there are multiple ways to die in this game -- it's along the same vein as the King's Quest games.

Just want to let you know I've beaten Gold Rush! Classic.

Wow, what a terrible game! Imagine a mix between Oregon Trail's randomly triggered "you have died of dysentery" messages, and the most annoying parts of a SCUMM game -- getting stuck on objects, falling off ladders, and having to watch your character walk slowly across the entire screen repeatedly as you traverse the same screens over and over again. I think I've just really been spoiled by Roberta Williams' excellent King's Quest series, at least her puzzles relied on fairy tale lore rather than killing players via ladders! :O For a fun time, I highly recommend looking elsewhere!

Hey, would you mind putting your playtime stats temporary to public (here are the instructions on how to do it in case you are not aware how. You can ignore the top paragraph since it is from a different group.) so I see what the playtime is so I can verify it as beaten and the playtime will also be shown on the leaderboad. After that is done you can put them back to private/friends only if you wish.

I was looking at the poll in the September thread and was wondering what kind of games would fall under the "Art games" thingy

The more artsy, maybe abstract, games or games which actually involve art?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Mostly games containing art yes, like drawing, painting, designing, music, poetry etc.but I would also count in "hand drawn" games (there's a tag for that).

But it's as always, if you can give a reason why something is art for you, no one will prevent you from playing one of your wins =)

Hiya Captain MouseWithBeer! Just to clarify, for the category "bundled on a Friday", does a game qualify if it's

  1. Added to the SG bundle list https://www.steamgifts.com/bundle-games only, or
  2. First sold in a bundle on a Friday e.g. in a Humble Bundle Monthly which comes out on Fridays, or
  3. All of the above

I'm confused because In the June thread https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/pCNhnhI it's suggested "Games released, won or bundled on a Friday (IG Friday Special, Humble Monthly etc.)". However, in the "games playing in the future", the SG bundle list link is listed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I asked mouse a similar question when searching for games so I will just tell you, what she told me. If you can find a bundle that was released on a Friday, which contained the game you are good. It can be any bundle at any time, it just should have been released on a Friday.
Just leave a comment with the bundle name and release date in the comment to your game, that will make mouse's life easier to verify what you are saying 😉

As I understand it, this event only applies to unplayed games (or idled only), right? In other words, games chosen for the BLAEO theme will not, by definition, also work here, is that correct?
I mean, you don't want people choosing games they've almost finished so they can beat a lot of games.
[Edit: and also, this is perfectly okay! I'm not saying it should be different; I'm just making sure.]

Well if i counted it up right ive done 94 steam games this year so 106 more to go
Counting everything so stories, consoles all that junk then 201 so beaten it actually.

Okay then 300 is my next goal for overall and lets say hmm try to get as close to 150 as possible but 130 should be doable

I'm interesting, how you (or everyone who read this) consider game with dlcs (that have achivs) completed? Only after buying all dlcs and getting all achivs?
And is there a way to figure out which achivs from dlc, and which from main game? On my PS it was always indicated, and if I remember correctly, you can hide DLC's achivs. On Steam.. it's always a mess or I just jumped at wrong game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmmm, if I remember it right some games have distinguished achievements from DLC's with colors. But I don't know if everyone is using that. ;)

Well I suppose that I wouldn't mark it as completed if I still missed achievements from DLC's even if I haven't bought them yet. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure some good devs are using it (or write appropriate description), but it looks like not all of them — for example, I've won Go! Go! Nippon! some time ago, and didn't even realized that ALL 85 achivs are from DLCs, until Mouse told me about it ><

For second part of your question, I'd recommend you to use AStats. In most cases (if not always), achievements related to one or another DLC are marked accordingly. Just for example, game with bunch of DLCs ETS2 https://astats.astats.nl/astats/Steam_Game_Info.php?AppID=227300 Pay attention on the "Tag" column

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I guess it's the good option :) I looked at the game I play now and it have 2 colors for main game and 2 colors for DLC, that is.. helpful than nothing, for sure :D, but I'm still interested why is that 4 colors, and not 2. For the first glance it looks like it have smthg to do with achiv's value 🤔I'll continue my observation :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you mean the color of the achievements themselves? If so, then you are right and the color indicates the value / rarity of one or another achievement (from dark green for simple to orange for rare). As I said earlier, pay attention to the Tags column. For your example, this column is not at all, so most likely this game has no achievements related to any DLCs. Hope I explained it rightly, with my poor English :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, yesterday I completely missed info about the Tag column and were overwhelmed by colors :) Thanks, good to know! You explained well :D
What for "Open Sorcery" — I see achivs for DLC in the AStats' list, but I believe it doesn't have Tag column just because the game itself isn't very popular and has few owners.

I can also recommend checking some achievement guides (both on Steam or off Steam), they usually have listed if they are DLC achievements or not.

Personally I only count my games as completed when I got all the DLC achievements too (before that beaten), but if you have any games that you would like to submit to the site like that you can either go with beaten or completed (just leave me a note about it so I know), I am fine with it either way :)
