I have no steaks to share, but you can find a small train of bundled games here (L0+, with some additional restrictions which almost everyone* should be able to pass).

Well done. Seeing any hint of blood from the animal I'm eating is really offputting to me, builds too much of a connection. I'd probably be vegetarian if meat didn't taste so goddamn good.

Similar, but my threshold is a little bit higher (I am fine with a bit of pink, so have mine Medium Well). I don't eat fish that look at me ...off with their head.

Another reason I prefer Medium Well is that anything less cooked typically gets cold too quickly.

Also seeing how many people voted "Well Done" makes me feel better. I can't count the times I got condescending looks from people (i.e. snobs) for not having my steak squirting blood.

Actually, this is very fitting and humbling. As a beer lover I'm afraid I gave this look many a time to people who ordered boring pale lagers in places where the beer menu included excellent selection of more interesting/flavorful options. I know it's wrong, but I can't help myself :-\

to be fair, if you live in asia, you will know nothing but pale lager... since it pretty much the only type of beer there, so we have no idea what all of those other name for

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know. I enjoyed all my trips to Asia* immensely, so much so that I'd say it's my favorite continent. The beer selection though was always an issue. I only managed to find one place with a decent selection (in India of all places).

‎* So far I traveled to China, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Not sure if I should also list Hong Kong separately (it's technically in China) or Turkey (much of it is in Europe), but for sure the best beer selection I found in Asia is where I live - Israel.

I love our selection. But lately, its down hill...
Btw, I n Australia i found a huge selection of beers....

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, you should list Hong Kong separately. It is technically a Special Administrative Region, and people there really hate to be listed together with mainland Chinese :3

If you ever visit Northern Vietnam again, drop me a word, you could stay at my house (my whole family speak English) ;)

What honglong17 said. In Vietnam, pale lager is the only popular beer, and is sold everywhere. You have to go to bars or clubs to find other kinds of beer (mostly black beer, or "German beer" as we call it here). And those exotic brands are significantly more expensive than pale lager. But I have to admit that pale lager drinks like water...

The red liquid from a rare steak is not actually blood. It's a mixture of water and myoglobin, which is a protein in the muscle fibers that gives the meat it's red color. The blood is completely removed during the slaughter process.

The more you know!!!!

It looks like blood, so good enough to create the offputting effect Teliko mentioned. Even now that I know it isn't (live and learn, thank you!), I doubt I'm going to have my steaks differently.

How about knowing that overcooking red meat creates lots of extra HCAs and PAHs (carcinogens, aka cancer-causing chemicals)? Not to mention, it totally destroys the taste of the meat. BBQing and smoking meat also creates higher levels of these chemicals vs. cooking with lower temperatures.

I don't think I've ever eaten anything that would be considered a steak. But if I would it would have to be without fat and well done-ish.

Rabbit > Chicken > Fish > Boar > Tukey > Pork > Beef, pretty much in my book.

In my part of the world, kangaroo meat is hard to get because poor culling practices have stigmatised it despite its health benefits (kangaroo is apparently not easy to farm because high fences are expensive...).

However, a few times a year I can get it in Lidl (a store common across Europe, I believe) at a very affordable price.

And, by the way, go and watch the movie Repulsion (with Catherine Deneuve) and see if you can stomach rabbit afterwards...

I barely buy and prepare meat on my own but that's neat, though I haven't heard of Lidl having it here, I will keep an eye on it.

Agreed, though I don't like it squirting that blood-like-liquid, so you would probably consider my preference (MW) as blasphemy.

As for Dan Quayle, it's too late. If I change it now I won't be able to find all the polls I created here. He's the magic word.
