.
Yes I thought they were weird since I saw that E3 gameplay trailer

I've enjoyed the previous one and I still need to get the Enemy Within DLC, so I'm not yet done with that one. But I will get X-COM 2 also when the time is right.

I hope they will make bigger discounts on Enemy Within DLC when/before X-COM 2 release

Aha, it's back... :)
This reminds me I still haven't tried that Enemy Within DLC thing. Heard it was good, too... :(
Wonder if the Steam client has an option to disable new purchases until you've installed one of your previous purchases... :)

Oh, shoot, somehow I did not know about this! I'm inordinately happy about there being a sequel (and it containing swords).

I have yet to get Enemy Within ( i always miss the sales), but im very looking foward to Xcom 2!

All you have to do is lose the game to enter into the sequel!

?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
honestly? the old ones are super hard now
but the new one is still a great game

Trailer doesn't capture a lot of gameplay, mostly the atmosphere. Game itself is a combination of strategy (management of the XCOM base) with turn-based tactics (fights) just in case you don't know anything about it

I hope they make the gameplay more complex than the oversimplified abomination that was the first one. After playing the original series, it felt like switching from chess to tic-tac-toe. A slightly disappointing gaming experience.

I didn't play the original series, but felt it too at some moments :) May be it's because I still didn't try Enemy Within DLC

Flying base? Overall I'm waiting for it. But I also didn't play with Enemy Within DLC yet.

Hey, wikipedia says:
The game is set 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, in a scenario in which humanity was defeated by aliens. The world is controlled by the alien-backed ADVENT Administration, and XCOM has been forgotten. The player must take control of the commander of the Avenger, an alien supply barge that has been converted into XCOM's mobile base, and free humanity from alien rule.
But I thought I protected the Earth ;_; Did I forget/miss something?

Nope.
Official story/timeline for the sequel is that XCOM got their ass handed to them before even getting laser weapons, and that the war was lost in a few months' time.
That was done mostly to justify the more offensive/guerilla style tactics, and resetting of technology levels to bare basics instead of starting off at he Plasma tier.

I see. Also I was wondering during my first playthrough of XCOM EU, how humanity could so quickly adopt new technologies while aliens were slowly increasing their own powers :/ I mean aliens could use plasma techs, psyonics, etc from the very beginning leaving no chances to humanity. This one looks more realistic

It is also an easier cop out way than doing what the original series did. There the war was quite hard-fought, but humans won and retained the tech, but the aliens, when they returned, moved underwater instead, which forced XCOM to develop brand new technology, yet again lagging behind the aliens. Later releases also just upped the ante every time, so the cutting edge tech of the last game was just bare basics by the next.

I didn't play any old XCOM games, but heard about underwater part. Yes, it was a nice move. But still I'm a bit pessimistic in the view of winning the war against much better developed civilization. The last one must fail really hard to be defeated. Or some unpredictable circumstances must happen (like in Wells' The War of the Worlds)

I can't speak for this one, but in the old one, they had a small force because they were originally a frail race who resorted to cloning and bioengineering. They had almost no resources left on Mars, so they started a somewhat open, but mostly covert invasion on Earth, which was still rich in resources (except for element 115, which was found only on Mars and was the basis of their tech). Humanity won by sheer numbers and cannibalising the aliens' tech, using it to travel to Mars and killing the central brain that coordinated the whole attack.

Cool! I didn't know that. If I remember correctly, the new one doesn't say a lot about aliens origins
Also I remembered one important thing in the end of the game which somehow justifies the plot. You can read it in the last passage of story <--- SPOILER

Hm, I just noticed that XCOM EU doesn't have Steam Workshop. I've heard good things about that mod

Yeah, I noticed the same the other day. I was expecting Steam WS to be active for this game.
Nevertheless, nexusmods is the perfect page for that. Try the mod, but be prepared for Alien Air Superiority ;) However, this mod made XCOM as good as the old X-Com, not just a short little gamie.

Omg, it becomes harder and harder to orient myself in the series :) Anyway, Aftermath is not even an official game for X-COM series. It was just inspired by the official one :P

nonononno.
you need to start from the originals. brutally hard ;)
