I know we can recommend games and "review" them already, but I'd love to see a quick "up/down" implementation like the Steam Workshop or the Guides have and get a 1-5 star rating based on that, or just let people rate games between 0-5 stars. Sometimes seeing "41 people recommend this game" doesn't say enough. 41 out of how many?

Just a random idea I'd like to see and I think would be insanely useful to those wanting to buy games that might be on a daily deal, and would promote (or discourage some) impulse buys.

Sounds neat enough to me. Also makes me wonder, because I've seen people use the recommendation feature to warn others about a bad game, so that alone can skew the results of recommendations.

I think refining the recommendation system to include negative (and possibly neutral) reviews would be enough. Some people use it for that purpose at the moment, or just general critique, yet they still add to the count of 'X people recommended this game!' regardless of whether or not they actually were using the feature to express a positive opinion.

I'd say this could hurt sales, but theres already a metacritic for most games, so maybe not. :p

Metacritic is optional for the devlopers/publishers to post. Plenty of games have the 4 reviews necessary to have a score, yet no score is associated with the Steam store page. Also, I feel like Steam is starting to get big enough that they can afford to let users review games and not just recommend, ESPECIALLY since they added Greenlight.

I much prefer the text. I dont need people to write pages, just a blurb on why they like or dislike the game. I trust the opinion of a lot of my friends. I have bought games based on a short quip they made at the bottom.

I would like to see what they wrote on their recommendations.

i wrote up some ideas on my website in november 2011: the steam recommendation feature is mostly useless

it's mostly based off what i would do as a programmer if i had access to the data to make recommendations useful, so it might be heavy on math.

It's still pretty useless with a x/5 or x/10 or a star system really... Most people will only take the time to review it / rate it if it is:
a) Super-mega-awesome.
b) Utter shit and they want to warn people not to buy it (think WarZ etc.)

You can use the internetz to search and see if the game is good or not.Anyway it is a nice idea, but I don't think we'll see it very soon.
