I'm not so sure. If the laptop is just going to be used for studies, you can get one pretty cheap (it doesn't need a graphics card, awesome display etc.), and also it will be lighter probably.
A decent gaming desktop can be made quite cheap too. The main reason to get a gaming laptop is if you want to have gaming on the go. If that's the case, then the gaming laptop is the logical decision.

I this situation (if you are going to stay at school A LOT) i would invest on a great gaming laptop to use it everywhere, even though I strongly support desktop gaming over laptops.
PS: How long you going to stay on school? If it is: Go to class > Class ends > Go back home imediatelly, then forget all I said and get 2 computers.

Yeah its pretty much going to be night and late afternoon classes so i doubt I'll be spending a ton of time on campus. Especially since I work 40+ hours a week. I'm actually going to try and take as many classes online as I can. Maybe if I have a dedicated school computer I wont be tempted to close whatever I'm working on and play a game.

I'm seriously going back and forth. If I did get a gaming laptop I'd honestly have no idea what brand to get. I know dell does financing and I think I get a discount through school... So I could always get a alienware but they are kinda gigantor so that may make it a pain to lug around back and forth.

Comeon, carrying a heavy weight during the whole day: Workout. you are going to have fun AND get stronger. Win-Win situation.

Thats a valid point. Then if anyone tried to swipe my laptop I'd be able to take them. Nothing like a super strong 5 foot tall girl to suprise someone haha.

Personally I'd build a quality gaming desktop, and pick up a cheap second hand laptop that will do the job productivity wise.
All up, you probably wouldn't spend any more than if you bought a gaming laptop, and with a desktop you have a lot more flexibility for upgrades etc...
Also if one of your computers kicks the bucket with an assignment due the next day, at least you'll have a spare!

Depends on what kind a gaming laptop i have seen very expensive gaming laptop reaching almost 2,000$.
I recommend getting a gaming computer for about 1,000-1,500 and a cheap not too old regular laptop for around 200 that can still play a couple of small games. :D

I recommend a gaming laptop, don't have to be anything extravagant, maybe sth that can play everything, even the new AAA titles on Med settings

So I finally got a new job and I can afford to get a new computer. Yay! I'm also going back to school in the fall. But here in my problem. I can't decide if I should build a desktop and buy a laptop to use for class or just buy a gaming laptop and use it for both. Help?
