Hey,
After finishing games like Dark Souls 1,2,3 or Furi for example, i'm searching games that are really hard and enjoyable !
So i'm asking you, what are your hardest games on steam ?

Darksouls and Spelunky. Shank 2 on 'hard' is pretty brutal as well.

You won't regret it, it's an absolute fantastic game. It's a real masterpiece of great game design.

Took me around 50 hours to beat King Yama but was it worth it. One of my greatest gaming achievements. :)

Look at the section of Rogue-likes

Here an example of very hard games
Darkest Dungeon
Crypt of the NecroDancer
Rogue Legacy

Also Bullet Hell games are hard, specially the Japanese ones are harder and better.

Lot's of this games are a way harder than Dark Souls games.

Well, another kind of "hard" games are those from the Grand Strategy and 4x genre.
Don't know if that's your coup of tea but if you want a challenge try them.
My personal favorites are Medieval 2 Total War modded, Civ IV in deity difficulty, Crusader Kings II and Hearts of Iron series.

Agreed. However some people (not the op necessarily since there was the separation) think they are. Or at least that they are 'hard' games. And by my Steam library it might look like I would too. :D

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream Good luck trying to get the good ending.
Hare In The Hat: The Abyss Yes, it is a mobile game. Yes, you can complete it under an hour. I guarantee, at least 45 minutes of that hour will be spent on one part.
The Bridge
Pillars of Eternity Try to get the last challenge play through achievement, and you'll laugh when somebody next time says Dark Souls is a difficult "RPG".
Also, I frequently hear that Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty is a difficult tactical game. I don't know why they say it, but I guess I can drop it here.

I think that my father finish the last mission of Commandos with only the character with the knife. It's in the genes

Also, I frequently hear that Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty is a difficult tactical game. I don't know why they say it, but I guess I can drop it here.

It's like stealthy trying to take out an entire army with 6 people. They just went absolutely crazy with the unit placement on the maps. And if a single person spots you, they sound the alarm and even more than the already ridiculous amount of enemies on the map, come out. I completed 2 or 3 levels until I gave up on the game, because it was just beyond ridiculous. It's much, much more difficult than the other Commandos games and the only one I never finished.

More difficult, but not that difficult in general. Beyond the Call of Duty is actually easier than its own demo, where several comfort features were missing. One of my biggest woes related to the franchise is that they fixed up the first two games to run on fast systems, but never the demo. In the game proper, the only tricky part I usually cheese is the zoo, and only the very last challenge, the firing squad. Apart from that, the new hostage system made it pretty easy to break guard deadlocks, with only Greece showing some tricky spots around the bomb dig site.

Difficulty is subjective, you could argue nothing is difficult if you possess the right skill set. I can only speak for myself and I personally found this game difficult, the general consensus also seems to agree with me since it's quite easy to find the words difficult, challenging, hardcore, ... in the Steam reviews. But it's possible you did not find it difficult.

I never played the demo, but now you've made me curious, since I already found the original game fairly difficult. I might try it out after I finish playing my Steamgift wins. A demo makes no money so it's understandable that it never got fixed. The zoo was one of the easier parts once I found the right clothes for the spy. I think I gave up in Greece when I couldn't go down the ladder without being spotted, though it's been many years so I could be mistaken, but it was around that area.

Ha, the ladder, yes. It is an interesting beast. You can try to go aaaaaall the way around, but it is tricky. I just get a hostage and position my guy at the very tip of the ladder's topside, this way the hostage can go down and distract. There can be issues if you send down the second commando to deal with the guard, as he can move your guy away, breaking line of sight, but a retry or so later, you have access down.

The demo is the abduction mission, by the way, which is still my favourite level and the reason sometimes I reinstall the game and look up those mission codes. :D

Haha, talking about it makes me want to go back and play the game again :p I'll see how the demo goes, I might get back to you, unless I forget :p

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Told you I'd get back to you :p After having played the demo, I have to strongly disagree with you. The demo is much easier than the normal game simply because there are far fewer enemies that are closely grouped together on the map, only the wall and the house are somewhat heavily defended. I did make it incredibly difficult for myself by not wanting to kill a single person, but if you use the sniper rifle, it should be quite easy. Even if it doesn't have all the features, the radio, the cigarettes, and the sniper rifle should make it quite doable.

Heh. For me, the cigarettes is what made BtCoD way too easy. And in this game, at least they still had guards who resisted the cigs, in Commandos 2, those were almost non-existent (and fell for a bottle of wine instead anyway).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The insane amount of enemies on the maps is why I will never call BtCoD easy :p It remains the hardest of all the Commandos games for me. I don't think the cigarettes are that overpowered to be honest, they have a very limited range and some of the other skills are more powerful. It's been a long while since I played the Commandos games, but I thought the cigarettes were in every game?

Nope, the first game only had the Green Beret's radio as a lure, and that was it. This is why I used dead bodies to lure out guards most of the time, but it needed experimentation on which ran to their fallen buddies and which sounded the alarm immediately.

Huh, it's been too long :) Great games though, yeah I can still remember them calling "Alarm! Alarm!". Or when they said "Stehen bleiben" (hold still), walking over to me and then killing my character, I wasn't even mad that's some german efficiency :p

Echo of the Wilds

It's been a long time (almost 2 years) since I have played it so I don't know if it has been updated to make it any easier. I ended up giving up on this game even after cheating for a long time. There was so much grinding, limited daylight hours, and food that I resorted to editing my save file to give myself unlimited food, daylight, wood, resources, and tools, but it was still too difficult.

I basically took all the grinding out of the game and just focused on finding new items and crafting new tools in order to continue my journey, but it ended up being too difficult to even figure out where to go and what to do. (I only replenished items that I had already found and have worn out or I needed more of. I didn't cheat by giving myself things I have not discovered, I just did it to take the grinding out.)

dark souls which you completed are the hardest for me (particularly the boss fights) but aside from that
I tried lords of the fallen which was similar and hard but personally I don't enjoy hard games

Lords of the fallen is, for me, a failed duplicate game.
I refund it because it was not as challenging as Dark Souls is
And the story is a nonsense

Yes dude that was the one haha. Hardest shiny trinket I remember.
I was just trying to find this video and just stumbled across this in the process... this guy doing a speed run gets the trinket in one try and just skips the checkpoint before it. I don't want to know how many times he's played through the game.
