I've always used steam feature but it doesn't take the sweetfx effect... and the quality it's pretty bad (I know I can save a non compressed copy, but it still doesn't solve the sweetfx thing)

So... any software that I could use ?
I want something I could set on "run at startup", not invasive (I don't want a VAC ban :|)

it's a beta-key for http://battlesouls.com/ (there is still no steam page)
looks like a moba or something like a wow battleground, I'm not sure and I have no idea how I had it.

It's free, but there is a paid version. In the free version you can't record longer then 30 seconds I think, but for screenshots it works well. It's been a while since I used it, so not entirely sure anymore.

I take a picture of my computer monitor with a disposable camera, get it developed, then scan the photo.

Or just use printscreen. I've never had any issues with quality, but I've never used it for sensitive or precise work, so...

the thumbnail is compressed with steam screenshots. navigate your steamclient to screenshots, choose game and browse harddisk in the screenshots menu (there is a specific button)
your screens are always main monitor resolution! (in my case that would be 1920x1080)

There are many options you could use. There is lightshot, gyazo (can take also gif captures), Action (it is a video recorder also, it is designed primarly for games )

Ciao :D

JPG is always compressed at ~80 or 90 %. So better use PNG and compress afterwards yourself... Same applies to digital cameras. RAW would be best :)

What game are you talking about? Many games have built-in screenshot function. Try F12 :)

In desktop environment I prefer to use PrtScrn, Snipping Tools or GreenShot (afaik it can be configured to same automatically to desired path). Years ago I used XFire but it is down.

To get the SweetFX settings captured, you need to use the PrtScrn key (by default).
You can change it in the sweetfx settings though to whatever you want.

I forget where it saves them, though. :X

You can also use dxtory to take screenshots with sweetfx settings enabled.

EDIT: If you're feeling particularly adventurous, there's a SweetFX Configurator out now that allows you to upload your enhanced screenshots directly through Steam. You just need to set it for compatibility with the Steam overlay in the settings.

Link to the preset I used - explanation is in the text. It's a customizable graphics enhancement package.

Cheap in terms of performance cost
Great in terms of enhancements

For example, atm I'm playing Alan wake.
I've started it 'vanilla', quite nice...
Then for some reason I decided to try sweetfx... Can't go back now, the vanilla looks so... Yellow, it makes the game much better

Steam screenshot doesn't ignore SweetFX, I don't think that's even possible. I know for a fact that it doesn't because I took several screenshots in Resident Evil 4 while using SweetFX.

Anyway if you want a software for taking screenshots then I would highly recommend ShareX. You can also get it from the official website like I did.

You can set it up so that once you take a screenshot it immediately uploads it to one of the image uploading websites. You can also take either screenshot of the entire screen or enter a selection mode where you can use a rectangle tool to select which part of your screen you want to take a screenshot of. It also lets you record your screen (you wont get a sound without add-ons though) or record it to gif format.

It's a great tool, I love it. I'd even say it's the best tool for taking screenshots ever made. Do note that while you can record your screen it's not really meant for recording gameplay, you'd want another software for that.

EDIT: So it seems that other people claim that steam's screenshots feature doesn't detect SweetFX. That's rather weird, because it does for me, at least for RE4. Maybe it depends on which injector and its version people use. I personally use Boulotaur's injector.

Looks like is based on the game engine

SweetFX dev here. The image is passed from your game -> Steam -> SweetFX -> DirectX -> your graphics drivers -> your graphics card -> your monitor -> your eyes -> your brain.
