I got an X360 controller last year but it was wired for the main reason it would cost 50 euros but it wouldn't give me many problems. Also wired one are more and more less common in the market. I would suggest reinstall it, third party hardware give many problems.

I have 3 wireless controllers so buying a wired one was no option for me at first.
I reinstalled the drivers numerous times and also tried both available driver 2.0something and 6.0something.
I am googling like crazy right now.

I did push both buttons, yes, but it doesn't connect.

Apparently there are no drivers for Win 8.1
Most are preinstalled like the receiver driver for example but all I could get for the controller was a Win 7 driver which supposedly works with 8.1 and several tutorials mentioned that.

maybe u can force the application to run in compatibility mode win 7 ?

I'm a noob, what's a compatibility mode? Do i need to install Win 7 as a seperate OS for it?

No, no app just a CD with outdated drivers for Win 7.

download the driver for the reciver, before installing , right click on the setup icon and run in compatibility mode win 7, I think it will install like in win 7 and work

I had to push the pairing buttons several times in mine and in different orders (first tried pushing the receiver then controller, then tried first the controller then receiver, then tried both on the same time, holding, etc) - one of em worked, not sure witch one :P
original MS receiver btw

I had similar issues with a knock off one I bought through Amazon. Im sorry I cant completely remember what I did to fix it, but it involved finding a program and manually starting said program through the driver install process. Also, try to make sure if you are using any other wireless receivers on your pc to unplug them and try each one on its own to rule out that as an issue.

I don't know why but it works now after several times of trying to connect the controller. Thanks for your help!

Micro$oft just wanna make money from everybody, they have no problems releasing Bluetooth wireless controllers like Sony does(or other devices), but obviously if they do that they won't get more money, so they make different system than Bluetooth to make ppl buy their shitty receivers, too bad you bought a Chinese one, but I guess you can find an original received on offer, Amazon is doing a sale on 15th July, if you decide to get the original, try checking that day.

Have myself a non official X360 Con. Receiver with W7 64b ... worked flawless assigning the original drivers which are offered here:

^ Where no W8 are listed but this guy says it works regardless with W8 64b:

A guide to fix it manually, by self assigning drivers to the hardware (same procedure i followed):

I don't know why but it works now after several times of trying to connect the controller. Thanks for your help!
Hey,
I'm sorta frustrated right now and hope to find some help in the forum!
I recently ordered a receiver for my wireless 360 controller for obvious reasons. It arrived today and I immediately booted my PC and wanted to try it out.
It is a 3rd party receiver tho, so keep that in mind. From all the research I have done in advance most people reported that 3rd party receivers are just as good as the original one, even when it's a china 1:1 rip-off it'll supposedly work.
So I plugged it in and did all the steps that most tutorials suggested. I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit btw
Installed the wireless controllr driver for Windows 7 64-bit (the internet said it'll work on 8.1, which is weird), went to the device manager and installed the driver for the wireless controller receiver.
But my controller just won't connect to the receiver.
Before I send this one back I wanted to know if I have been missing something and if someone has had the same problems using Windows 8.1 (Yes, I know 8.1 is known to be a bitch).
Cheers!
