well if youre getting 10-15fps, its time to turn the settings down a bit

-EDIT-

and being unable to play a game at 30fps on max doesnt make it unplayable you know...

Then why did you invest in a gtx 690? You can drop 1k on a video card but not $300 for a upgraded CPU?

you would be able to play it but you probaly wouldnt play it for long because your fps would get very low and it would be unplayable

From the screwball new forum thingie on steam:

"if you go into SteamApps/common/PlanetSide2 and find UserOptions.ini, you will see the render distance is set to 9999.999... which means you are constantly rendering every single part of the massive map.

change that to about 2000 or more and you will notice a huge performance boost"

Worked wonders for me, and I've been running with it set like that for three days now. :)

Hmm, I just installed a couple days ago and my UserOptions.ini has:

RenderDistance=-1.000000

Wonder what -1 means. Maximum, I guess? heh

It's a fairly unoptimized game but you might run it on medium-high settings.

Game is quite CPU intensive. I have:

Windows 7 64bit
6 gigs ram
gtx 660ti
Amd Phenom 960 3.0 quad core

In large battles my fps drops to 20ish on mostly high settings. Turning shadows off in the Useroptions.ini file (setting to 0)will give a pretty large boost to fps. I recently upgraded my graphics card from a nvidia gt 545 to a gtx 660ti, and it really didnt give a large boost, so the game seems to use quite a bit more cpu power than gpu. They aren't done optimizing it however so the game will probably perform better after future updates.

Don't bother even trying Planetside 2 with those specs

You should have at least 8 gigs ram, a quad core processor, and a much better graphics card.

At least 8 GB of RAM? That would be nice but it's excessive and unnecessary. 4GB is fine for the game in my opinion.

Interesting. This game is compiled for 64 bit? If it is not it won't use 8 GB RAM...Check how much memory can a 32 bit application address under the standard circumstances in Windows before posting bullshit in the forums. This game's optimization sucks, it doesn't even support multithreading well - not much fps gain on OC'ed, 6-core i7 beast.

Just an aside - Planetside 2 is the only game I've ever completely not been able to play on my iMac with 3.06ghz Core 2 Duo and AMD Radeon HD 4670. It's pretty ridiculous. Even on lowest settings, the performance is so bad it's not even playable. Meanwhile I can play other modern games like Dishonored, Saints Row 3, L4D2, Orcs Must Die 2, Crysis, GTA4, BRINK, Alice:MR, among others - usually on high settings! Ultra sadness.

Wow. Maybe the Mac version isn't optimised very well? My computer can handle any modern game fine with the odd stuttering if I happen to be downloading and installing a large game in the background but that's a given. I would have thought a game like Dishonored to be more graphically demanding than PlanetSide2. I have played them both and even with PlanetSide2 on the highest possible settings it isn't over the top. I understand the open-world style can be tolling on some computers and cards that don't have that power behind them, though.

I'm on the highest settings I can be and it runs fine on my PC. Nothing too fancy but I guess it is a PC geared more towards gaming. The only reason I purchased it was for gaming since I have my laptop for anything else.

I agree with the pay to win statement.. I don't really like the pay-for-things-that-give-you-a-benefit-over-others mentality that they have. I understand when a F2P gives you the option to pay for things that add a visual look over others or a uniqueness or something else that does NOT give them the upper hand over players who do not spend the money. Regardless of their crap tactics, I find the game enjoyable but I definitely prefer Battlefield 3.
