Please Recommend a good free hex editor I dont know if the sites I am seeing are legit or not could be malware for all I know.

This is the one I recommend as you can edit the colors used.
Highly recommend if you work primarily at night.

Based on what?
edit: I did just notice the "primary" download link for the English version points to CNET Download.com, and that site seems dubious (but did not "infect" my browser). The file itself is okay though. Still always better to use direct download links.

Checked the download page for a bit it´s baffling how one could get a browser infection from there.
Pretty sure the browser was already dragging something along and unlucky user misclicked somewhere badly.

That being said, i´d go for the portable links, not a fan of setup routines for 300 kb applications :D

That thing helped me hack (not in the bad sense of the word) p3d files when i hardly knew what a p3d file were :D

That's the one I use in Windows. In Linux I just use the hexedit program...
