So, GFWL is being shutdowned on summer, but Dark Souls 2 is coming on March 14, will steam take charge? or GFWL is going to do before shutting down?

No. GFWL will be dead before its release, plus go google your question.

July 1, 2014 is when GFWL is being discontinued which would be after Dark Souls 2's release.

Maybe you should Google your answers before posting them.

Some brains, maybe? Why would anyone release a game using a service that will be shut down shortly after, if not at, launch?

Who said they would?

He stated that GFWL will be dead before release which is simply untrue based on the release date of the game and when Microsoft stated they'd discontinue the service.

Capcom has actually stated that they are removing GFWL from all their games which I just posted before.

They wouldn't, obviously. The only thing he was disputing was the statement that GFWL would be dead before Dark Souls II's release, which is inaccurate.

To what extent? GFWL is long dead already. The announcement finished it off.

I got what you said but it was like dead man's hand. Dead but still living somehow.

It won't. They have said so before the PC port of Dark Souls was even released. But they couldn't change it anymore that time.

Wow .. is that a serious question ? Did you even think about it..

Namco would be f**kin dumb to even consider using GFWL when less than 6 months later the service is to shut down. Not one game came out using GFWL since the announcment that it would be gone this summer.

Nothing has been coming out with GFWL DRM for some time now. The last one I can remember was Resident Evil Operation Racoon City.

The original Dark Souls came out after Racoon City along with 10+ games since then.

Racoon City, what a nice name lol, approved by raccoon

That is weird since I didn't see any zombie raccoon in Raccoon city in resident evil games or movies.

Rather than making up information like some other people have chosen to do, I'll just quote something and post a link.

"Hello,
Thanks for contacting Capcom!
As GFWL will be closing down, the client will be removed from games and you will still be able to play your games.
Unfortunately we do not have any details yet of how this will be done and when.
Regards,
Carlos G.
Capcom Technical Support"

I think you just answered your own question. If GFWL is shutting down, why would they use it as DRM?

The same reason why Microsoft released Ms. Splosion Man on April 3 which uses GFWL and then on August 16 announced they're closing the service.

As to what that reason actually was? I have no clue, perhaps just sheer stupidity.

That's 4 months between. Maybe it wasn't decided yet? I'm pretty sure that there are different people managing different parts of Microsoft. I guess someone didn't get the memo.

However, Dark Souls 2 is not developed by Microsoft, nor do they use Microsoft as a publisher. The first Dark Souls did not use Microsoft as a publisher either, but the game was released with GFWL DRM.. In August 2011. I fail to understand what Ms. Explosion Man has to do with this. It was released on Xbox Live Arcade about 2 years prior to the PC release, with Microsoft as publisher (both times). So I can't really understand your reasoning.

Assuming the decision to close GFWL was made before the release it was an example of a bad decision to use the DRM. Anyone who cared about the game and it's longevity would opt to use something other than GFWL, but I guess the fact Microsoft published it probably left them without a choice thinking of other games from the publisher.

I guess it was rather pointless after all.

I think at least at one time or another in our lives we have all heard a teacher say "there are no dumb questions". Well, they lied.

Anyway, I believe this will be a Steamworks title.

There's a Steam logo at the bottom of the official website. Conclusion - it will use Steamworks.

No new game includes support for GFWL. It's already being phased out, and summer is when it's going to be completely discontinued. That means devs have until the summer to patch it out, or have their multiplayer games stop working.

So no, I don't expect it to use GFWL.

Nope, I asked them and they said that it will only have GFWL for you, everyone else does not have it :)

Why would they do it? There's no point in releasing a game for a platform you know is going to die very soon.

Dark Souls registry app was just updated on Steam to show Community Stats (as seen here) so next step is probably adding achievements and going full Steamworks

Haha of course not. It's been advertised as Steamworks since it was first announced.

Sort by date at the top, you can see GFWL released titles trickled down to a stop at the beginning of last year.

of course not lol. its going to be shut down so soon after what sane person would think that?

Pretty sure that the developers have learned from their mistakes and will purge GFWL from their memories and make sure that Dark Souls 2 is working as a PC game, not a console port. It should hopefully also run at 60 FPS (no throttling) and should use steam as the only DRM protection. I would say it is doubtful that we would ever see a patch to Dark Souls to remove GFWL, as it needs a major overhaul to fix all of the other bugs.
