So like pretty much everyone I have a big backlog. :( I want to start making a dent on it, which means I have to start with the shorter games that are quick to finish (an possibly with achievements too because I like achieving them).
Here is where you can help me if you'd like! The top ones are all HOGs ( which are generally fast) but playing HOGs all the time back to back can get tiring. So have a looksie and give me a few suggestions if you would like?
Even if you don't, here is something for the effort:
frozen something
frozen something else
light delight
meow

Backlog pictures!: HOGs plus A to D: imgur to the rescue!
D to O: imgur to the rescue!
O to Z: imgur to the rescue!

TL;DR: If you would kindly take a look at my backlog and quickly spot any games that are quick/short to finish (like 7 hour or less) please let know. Thank you.

AR-K took me 4 hours to complete, but if i remember correctly then I cheated a bit looking up solutions :))
Costume Quest 2 is probably not that long either. I have only played the first one but i guess it's similar, so you could finish that one in less than 10 hours.
City of Fools is according to Astats a very easy game to complete for 100%.maybe 2-3 hours, but I haven't played it, because it's so ugly :)
Both 12 Labours games shouldn't take you that long either, if they are similar to their predecessor.. So probably 5-7 hours
Divine Slice of Life is a short VN. One playthrough may take 2 hours. the achievement is awarded for finding all Endings. So you could be done in 3 hours if you skip the dialogues after the first playthrough.
Her Story takes about 5 hours, is an enjoyable experience and easy to complete for 100%
Hero of the Kingdom is a ressource-managemnt game, but also a HOG in a way. But it might be a refreshing experience for you to play another take on that genre. I completed it in 4 hours. If i remember correctly then this game has 2-3 missable achievements - that's a bit unfortunate, but if you watch out for them it's easy to complete for 100%.
Morphopolis is beatable in 1-3 hours. It's relaxing and perfect for a cozy evening. The last puzzle was just so annoying that I still remember it D:
The vanishing of Ethan Carter can be beaten in under 3 hours and if you're going for a higher number of completed games you could probably speedrun the redux version in about an hour.
Shadow Puppeteer took me close to 5 hours. It's actually pretty short, but it has some difficulty spikes. I believe, that it took me an hour to beat the final boss. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like Jump'n'Run in general.
The Wolf Among Us took me 10 hours to complete, but as with all Telltale Games those hours fly just by. So I'd recommend that one, too.

I believe that Contrast and Crazy Plant Shop are short games, too

Games that I have played and that take approx 20 hours (maybe more) to complete a playthrough in, are: Deus Ex, Demonicon, Dishonored, Incredible Adventures of van Helsing, L.A. Noire,Saints Row 4, Shadow of Mordor and Bioshock Infinite. Duke Nukem Forever is a bit shorter, probably ~10 hours.

Oh besides, if I want to check how long a game might take, I look for reference here: http://astats.astats.nl/astats/
It's not overly accurate, but you'll get an idea.

Glad I'm not the only one. That game has some of the most totally obscure solutions I've ever seen in a game.
Several times I said out loud "How would anyone think of doing that?!" -_-

Hahaha @AR-K. I tend to cheat and look up walkthroughs at adventure games if I get frustrated as well so I should put that high on the list. :)
I have finished costume quest 1 and I think it took me about 8 hours? It's been a couple years so I am not sure, I thought 2 would be longer.
I have finished the first 12 labours game, it was indeed fun and easy, I did it 3 weeks ago or so. Thanks, will look into the rest of them too. :)
And that site looks incredibly useful, wonder how I missed it.
Cheers and thanks! Also have a blue heart. :)

You might want to look at this group then.
Some suggestions from your library which fit your criteria and which I also played: AR-K, Detective Grimoire, Her Story, Transistor, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, The Wolf Among Us.
If you go for 100% achievements, don't play Pixel Puzzles Undeadz (unless you have 100 minutes to waste killing zombies without being able to pause).

Thank you for the suggestions! I will try to join the group as well, maybe it will help me. :) blue heart

I like chainmail bikins as much as anyone but it beats the point of me having less games to play. XD Might keep it in mind for the future though.

"Boobs, the game!"

Honestly, it's kind of an overused "theme" at this point. Not to say that I dislike it, I just don't need to see it all the time. So many games do it, too.

The Wolf Among Us. It's sort of a long game, but time will fly by. One of Telltales best games out now.

A playthrough is 7-8 hours long. It takes double if you want to make all the choices and get all the achievements.

I've only played the first episode on my friend's Steam account but it was pretty fun and I would recommend this also. I love Telltale Games! :)

Life is Strange. I've yet to complete it but what I've played of it so far is really great - and I normally don't enjoy story-driven games.

And thanks a bunch for the giveaways! :D

Well, I recently beat Dungeon Siege III in about 22 hours, including the DLC. It's nothing like previous Dungeon Siege games but it's definitely a good game in its own right, despite the lack of companion development and an overall quick plot. It's got a quicker combat style, as it's real-time. E.g. dodging out of the way of an enemy's attack, dodging bullets/arrows, etc. Just Play it yourself. You'll know if you like the gameplay or not, as that's the main push for the game, honestly.

It's basically Dragon Age but quicker-paced and not that whole "faked Turn-based" because, if you didn't know, Dragon Age is actually turn-based, it just does that thing where the animations make up for the rest of the time not calculated.. I might take a look at other games but I'm way too bored and lazy to do so right now.

I haven't played any of the dungeon siege games before so I am not familiar with it. Sounds a bit action-y too, I am more used to turn-based combat. Maybe later? :)

Hello sir. As someone who has 50+ hours in Dungeon Siege II, the third game was a huge disappointment for me. And as I can see from your profile, you are an old-school RPG fan, like me. Considering this fact and what you have said about the game (lack of companion development and quick plot), I am really wondering what made this game attractive for your taste. Or have you played/are you playing it just for the sake of the previous Dungeon Siege games?

Well, I can't run the first two games because, well, Windows 8.1 here. Compatibility mode does shit for actual compatibility of games, generally it's used to make already-run-able games "more stable".

I saw Ross'(Aka Accursed Farm aka Freeman's Mind) Game Dungeon episode on the series and, honestly, he wasn't too critical about Dungeon Siege 3, mostly that it was simply different. What attracted me is that I truly think it's like a quick-paced Dragon Age or Torchlight. Dragon Age in the sense of the lore, it's got some pretty in-depth and interesting, albeit not a ton of it because, well, it was pretty short. Its gameplay was quick-paced so it kept me invested enough that I didn't lose interest immedietally. The bosses, specifically, are the highlights for me albeit some of the mini-bosses are just reused mechanics (e.g. automaton weaponry like flame thrower and grenade launcher, except for 1 or 2 special fights and, of course, the obligatory magic missile attacks) but that's a usual thing in games like these. I think my favourite boss was either the very final boss (that one was fun because it was legitimately hard) or the Gentleman boss.

Anyways, the story was neat too because it was like a tiny fire that could become a big bonfire, it just needs some fuel to help it along the way. I definitely imagine what the game would be like if a lot more time was put into it and I imagined something as amazing as Dragon Age and the likes. Big amazing adventures with a ton of lore, with amazing music(which I think Dungeon Siege III had, easily) in the background for mood-setting.

I made a review very recently that I feel expresses my opinions perfectly. Don't go into the game expecting a carbon-copy of Dungeon Siege 1 & 2, expect something new and refreshing albeit not perfect. That's what I expected and I enjoyed it for the 22 hours I put into it.

I mean, honestly though, it's like that with every game. A little bit more work could make any game infinitely times better. Even Dragon Age Origins, which is what I'm referencing in my comment here, could've done with a lot more and it's already overboard. It's a game that I could, and kind of want to, go replay right now and I still wouldn't be satisfied.

Yes, I also think Dragon Age 2 is a pretty good game, except for the rushed second-half of the game.

  • Belladonna is a fun, short, not particularly taxing point-and-click. I'm ridiculously slow and it only took me a few hours (plus a few hours of previous card farming);
  • Circuits is short and fun if you like the music. Easy to 100% if you have a good ear;
  • Gone Home can be short, but it's more enjoyable if you take longer;
  • +1 for Hero of the Kingdom;
  • The Maker's Eden is only one short episode, unfinished, and possibly abandoned...but I enjoyed what little it contained;
  • MISSING: An Interactive Thriller is short (also just one episode), enjoyable (to me), and pretty easy to 100%;
  • I just picked up The Room this week and although I haven't played it, I believe it fits your criteria;
  • The Tiny Bang story is cute and short and lets you get your puzzle on;

There are certainly a lot of other good games in your backlog that I could recommend, but the ones above fulfill the "short but good" criteria.

Happy gaming!

Thank you for all the suggestions. :) I know I have lots of good games, I just want to finish the short ones first to give me a bit of breath to then tackle the longer ones. :)

Those should all be relatively short.

Thank you!
Letter Quest is only short if I don't go for the achievements, I beat the classic version ( this is the upgraded something edition or whatever which is basically the same just slightly shinier).
