There is no upper limit, but you need to buy them one by one.
If you CV farm, buy at least 8, not 5, because the dropdown only gets strong there.
(although with this one, CV drops below 5/dollar at the 22nd pack, so you can go wild with it, it will still outclass most any bundles…)

No small change. Coins are used up, even if you use a 16-dollar coin to buy a 50-cent bundle. It will be gone forever regardless.

As the others said it's a one time use! :) And you don't get the change back. So better to use the coin on some other bundle. You could e.g. use a $1 coin for a $4 bundle, then you would just have to pay the remaining $3 with PayPal or whatever your payment method is. :)
I normally use them on a comic bundle or another expensive one. Since most Groupees bundles have pre-order, I nearly always pre-order so.. :X But $1 coins are useful in build-a-bundle as FilthySouls mentioned if you don't pre-order^^
