Which type of gameplay video do you prefer?
I enjoy when a video has relevant and well-spoken commentary. What I hate is when the streamer or uploader blathers over the game or tries to be "funny". Also, never talk over cutscenes and character dialogue.

+1. Or tries to be overly scared or overly excited or overly anything for the sake of drawing viewers--Fake emotions. I really do not mind someone who sounds somewhat drab and dull; if I listen to what he/she is saying and can tell that he/she is communicating well-thought out information, I do not care how animated he/she is. A bit of personality is great, but in general, forced animated demeanor is terrible and deserves the x close window.
BTW, I only watch such videos for instructional guides or walkthroughs. I have never watched or have seen any reason to follow someone playing a game (Twitch) unless it was for some recognized tournament play of the best against the best.
Yes. Most of the time, a face cam is bad.

+1
Well-done commentary is interesting and entertaining. Badly-done commentary ruins the video.

I like it if it is:
a tutorial-like explanation / showing strategies
or a good commentary about what they are doing, ocassionally why, being funny (but not to the level of constantly joking) is an extra.
I personally don't want gameplay videos, only for these - learning or entertaining. If it's just pure gameplay, I just take a look if I'm stuck, or I'm curious about the gameplay, but for that I still would prefer slight commentary.
Though it's very important with a commentary that it should be understandable, and not too annoying. I know people like him, but Jacksepticeye's yelling is really annoying for me, for an example.

There will be a lot of answers already posted in previous threads if you want to read them. I will link my comments from a couple threads I already posted in. I don't have much of an opinion on whether a face cam is good or not. I don't mind either way, but sometimes it can be awkward depending on the person and the type of game.

I hate commentary videos. Most of them dont say anything useful. And on the top.of that the speaker uses the most annoying tone that humanly can be achieved... And since they cant come.up.with a catchy phrase as intro, instead of just saying like hi guys, the video starts with screaming... Thats when I turn it off.

It depends however I prefer mostly with commentary (as long as it's good).
If I'm watching a gameplay video I'm watching it for a reason. If I wanted to watch gameplay I would go for someone commentating the game things like explaining how they are playing, what's going on in the game, opinions on the game etc just about anything.
If I want a walk-through because I'm stuck somewhere then I would be fine without a commentary but I would still prefer the person explaining how and why they are doing the things to progress, as short and straightforward as possible.

Depends what you're trying to do. If you want to build a following then you should definitely have some commentary imo. But if your goal is just to get views from people who want to check out the game then leave the commentary out
Basically what I'm trying to say is: if I just want to check out gameplay of a game, I'll look for videos without commentary. But I'll never sub to a channel without commentary, there's no reason for me to come back to your channel specifically if you don't even talk

Neither for me
I play game myself if I want to see gameplay, and I dont much care for all those streamers and youtubers who just scream and laugh like hyenas over every little detail.
At the moment only two gamers I watch are Oxhorn because I love how much indepth he goes with his videos And Dunkey (altough hes tad annoying, too, I find his commentary unforced and naturally funny)
These both youtubers dont even put their face on videos and they are great..I would just suggest going by script if reviewing games..Β°
Online games are different story.. But then again, in an multiplayer game it takes hour to get material for short video.. Dont force "funny".

Every time I see somebody commenting on the gameplay, talking, laughing, whatever, I just to go another channel.

It depends on the game. In myst-like adventure for example, is good to have some explanation as to why certain things are done.
On the other hand, some action games are better without commentary, like a movie. I refounded splinter cell double agent because it was bugged, but I got to see an extended playthrough, without comments and I enjoyed it a lot.

If the commentary is good.
Example of extremely good commentary and editing
Example of awful commentary and no editing
Personally I stay away from no commentary videos because what's the point then? I can just play the game myself then. No point in spoiling it before that.

Frankly, I never watch streamers, it's rare to see someone, who adds any value to a game by talking over it. In some cases, like in horror games, I feel like, it actively destroys the experience. I usually just watch gameplays for stuff, I didn't see during my gameplay, otherwise there is no point, I can just play it myself.

I hate commentaries. Especially when i'm looking for some quick gameplay footage and in the title is not clearly writter that it's a commentary.

If you want to be a walkthrough player then no commentary and no cam. You'll be purely showing gameplay.
If you want to be an entertainer then commentary and cam are essential. I always click on people with cam and voice because that's what I like watching. I like to subscribe to the person and not the game.

just wanna see the player reaction, not hearing their comment when playing the game..

Hey guys! Today I'm going to show you... π‘Έ Whatever choice you'll settle on in the end, for the love of god, don't do that

Also, personally I prefer gameplay without a commentary unless you're showing some kind of an elaborate trick that needs an explanation, or you are doing reviews, or you are really good, like really, really good, at narrating.

I enjoy gameplay with commentary as long as the player isn't screaming constantly or talking obnoxiously over dialogue/cutscenes. A good example of a streamer/Youtuber that I like is Cryaotic. He's always super calm, and his voice is soothing.

I am curious as to what type of gameplay videos do people like to watch. Perhaps it depends on the game itself? Leave an answer.
This is because I'm not sure how I should be editing any videos I will be uploading to my youtube channel. From browsing other channels I see people doing almost the exact same thing which is having a small window with camera and commenting on what they are doing. This leads me to think that some people might be tired of it or maybe it's just the norm of how to upload gameplay footage. Is this entirely a personal preference?
