Thank you for this thread. For me, Christmas time is bittersweet. It's a fine holiday, but it's got me missing my grandpops, who passed away a few years ago. December is his birth month, and he loved Christmas.
It's good to know that others aren't all absurdly happy all the time about the holiday season. Makes me feel less alone.

Time's of year when others celebrate, especially when it was an occasion that a loved one enjoyed, are certainly difficult. As much as your grandfather loved this holiday, there is no doubt that he wants you to enjoy it "with" him and for him. Although we never stop missing our loved one, may you find peace in that and may the joy of this holiday that he so loved fill your heart more and more each year.

I know the feeling. Lots of ghosts around me at the end of the year. My grandma was born December 4th and I spent my best Xmases with her. Others also make their absence felt around the holidays.

That sounds like a good place to spend a little Xmas time. My grandpa and I used to have long walks and he would tell me of the books he'd read lately (he was a great storyteller) and we'd talk for hours about life in general. He also loved tv but hated commercials XD
I think he'd have loved DVR and all the subs like Netflix and all that.

TBH I don't particularly hate Christmas itself but I'll be glad to be in January,holidays are always super stressful for me (although this year it's not as stressful - yet -as I expected it to be).

I'm curious, if you try a key and already have the game, it says "Already Owned" but if the key is used, would it say "Duplicate" instead?

I celebrate Solstice as the start of a new year, as i get disgusted with all the hype, angst, and greedy consumerism over Christmas.
I too am lonely on holidays, but have gotten so used to it since 2020 that i've now become more comfortable alone, than with others. Yet there's that lingering thought that if i found the right person to hang out with, it wouldnt be too bad... but repeated efforts have shown i need to keep up an act and wear a mask when around others, or i will get myself in trouble. So my focus around holidays is do a little community service, like helping out at the church, or food bank, as there's always someone who is hungry, or too old to catch up on yardwork. The spirit of giving(something other than cheap shiny stuff) is what makes me feel best around this time of year.
Love that thread about Bundled Games people are looking for... Was shocked last year when i got gifted one of the games on my list, and even though i stated i didnt need anything this year, I still got a gift!
So now i'm happy to be looking forward to experiencing the "horrors" of what they have done with the Fallout franchise, as i get to immerse myself in Fallout 76 for a few weeks, and forget Xmas exists.

I'm perennially depressed, and not interested in pharma drugs. So finding simple things that lift my mood are a must.
Taking money and consumerism out of the equation, make holidays much more enjoyable.
I also do this for my mental health, because otherwise i find myself too comfortable on my own for weeks at a time. So community service may sound like annoying work, but it is also simple light hearted fun, where you work only as hard as you feel like. Which has everyone working to keep the vibe positive and enjoyable.
I highly suggest anyone feeling bored or lonely around the holidays to simply check out your local community churches, and see what kind of social events they have going on. Religion can be annoying, but the community side of churches is too often discounted, and i've spent a ton of time at churches without discussing religion.

110% agree with serving others. I won't say it is a way of life for me, but it has been a big part of my life. And in low moments, it can help bridge the troubled waters that life brings on occasion!

Less of a way of life, and more like remembering to take a moment to go for a walk and smell the roses, in order to reset oneself emotionally.
Before 2020 it was something i did at least an hour each week to help with the rotating community church lunch/potlick and sometimes yardwork on the weekends for the elderly.
Now it's mainly when something steers me in that direction. Like noticing the food bank is getting a delivery and maybe needing an extra hand.
Mainly i just look for little things i can do when walking around and seeing people struggling with one thing or another.
No one should feel bad for not helping. It's just good to know that when feeling bad, there is a trick to make yourself feel good, without drugs in one form or another.
