How it works

Predict who is going to win the race; that's all. :)

Entries close when the race starts (Sunday morning).

Race Preview

La Doyenne ("The Old Lady") is the last of the real spring classics. We're deep in the Ardennes now with some serious climbs to be conquered. Also the site of the Siege of Bastogne during WWII.

  • To the surprise of many, Alejandro Valverde did not win La Flèche Wallonne this Wednesday. If he wins here on Sunday he will equal Eddy Merckx' record. Does he have the legs for it though?
  • The Quick-Step wolfpack; Philippe Gilbert said after the race on Wednesday that he is out of energy after a long spring season, he thinks Julian Alaphilippe could do it again.
  • Former winner Daniel Martin was second last year, one better on Sunday?
  • Roman Kreuziger finished second in the Amstel but this is a different kind of race.
  • Team Sky still needs a win and Michal Kwiatkowski is again the man to do it. Wout Poels is starting but surely it's too early after his injury to contest the win?
  • Sunweb has been a little invisible of late; are these hills too much for Michael Matthews?
  • This race can be compared to a Tour de France mountain stage, climbing kilometres-wise. So Romain Bardet might want to test his form here.
  • I know at least one predictor who wants to see a Fuglsang win here. ;)
  • This is the kind of terrain where Ion Izagirre might do well.

Alejandro Valverde looks to be the safest bet.

But I expect a lot from the Belgian Lotto guys (Wellens, Benoot & Vanendert).

Anna van der Breggen wins again!

After Strade Bianche, de Ronde van Vlaanderen, and de Waalse Pijl she adds another one.

I fortunately managed to see most of the last 1+ hour of the race on the train.

Another great win by Quick-Step, amazing how they did this season.

Patrick Lefevere said it was their best first part of the cycling season ever and that their riders are willing to help each other out and dampen personal ambitions for the benefit of the team.

Yeah, it looks like the perfect team.

He benefited somewhat from the tactical situation but I think Jungels has shown once again his amazing talent!

Fuglsang tried, but couldn't get away. "At least I beat Valverde", he said after the race :)

What a year for Quick-Step so far.
They won almost everywhere as a team and this with a budget much smaller than Sky or BMC.

Their ability to constantly find and develop new talent is outstanding. And the main reason QS's budget is smaller than some other teams is their lack of Grand tour riders which tend to be the most expensive riders. They most likely are the team with the most expensive classic riders so them winning a lot in the spring is expected to a certain point.

Getting 27 wins from 13 different riders also shows what insane depth QS has and shows their excellent teamwork. Gilbert and Stybar both played a big role in a lot of races despite not getting a win so far.
