Yes, our beaches are awesome.
And the foods too.
Well, if you have visited other beaches in Indonesia you will find better beaches, I am sure, lol.

I've visited two times. Medan, Jakarta, and Bali. Favorites are definitely in that order.
Question: On your survey, monthly income is listed as up to $100,000. It begins at $5,000. Isn't this going to skew your answers heavily toward the low end of the scale?

Thanks for your suggestion. I will correct it soon.
My big family is from Medan, and I live in Jakarta. It is strange to see somebody like Medan and Jakarta more than Bali, lol. What do you see in Medan and Jakarta?

I'm a rebel, I answered the survey but didn't join the giveaways. I know the pain of needing data for research. Good luck bro.

I'm a rebel too! I answered the survey, but I literally just bought the bundle all the games came from less than an hour before seeing the thread. lol
I also knoow the pain of needing data, I am a Psych and Philosophy major with a fair amount of Statistics and Sociology under my belt as well... I've done so many questionnaires and surveys I can hardly stand to look at them, but I try to help give data when I can anyway. lol

Your survey is a bit strange, what will it prove?
I have been to Indonesia, but I also went for Bali :p
Believe it or not I didn't go to kuta beach or any of the rowdy places, I went for eastern and northern beaches for sea activities and diving. I was considering going to lombok as well (since it was close), but didn't. I also took a day trip to yogyakarta for the historical sites since it was close. I wanted to see Jakarta but most online resources I used basically said don't go, it's too busy and not much to see.

Well, I hope it will prove that the problem with Indonesian tourism is not about the "lack of infrastructure" or other big words, but from the lack of information dissemination to the target market : the foreign tourists. Regional leaders in Indonesia are busy building large airports to get foreign tourists, but for what? If nobody knows, no one will come visiting. Regional leaders in Indonesia love big, visible projects, but only few of them thinks whether their project have the best impact or not.

Yep, some trouble there. Should be fixed by now, thank you!

I think that most people know about Komodo Island because of Douglas Admas Last chance to see
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I think so. Not to mention that Komodo Dragon is a famous animal too.
I went there three years ago and went again few months back, so sad that some of the islands are damaged by irresponsible locals and tourists.
Comment has been collapsed.
Tourists are always irresponsible. but locals should know better ;)

As Indonesians myself, i only have heard about half of places that you mentioned.
Even Indonesia have 13,000+ islands, i don't really like to visit a beach/some small islands simply because i live in mountain, can't really adapt to hot temperature at beach. If you mention some mountains or tourist attraction in it, i probably know more.

Greetings from fellow Indonesians!
I live in Jakarta, so I guess I am quite adapted to hot weather. Where do you live?
But on other case, I would still have trouble visiting beaches and islands though, sometimes I got nasty seasickness.

I live in Puncak (Cipanas for more precisely) but i currently stay in Bandung for college.
So many people from Jakarta come to Puncak for holidays ._.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well.... it's a force of nature, lol. Indonesia sits on the Ring of Fire, we have a lot of active, semi-active, or passive volcanoes. But the last closure is especially a nasty one, because the time of the closure happens during the high season of holiday in Indonesia (Indonesians have the tradition to visit their parents after the holy month of Ramadan) so there are lots of passengers that got stranded.
Not to mention that one of the airports affected is Bali.

so agan bloodraven, this is forbidden from indonesia to fill out survey?...
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, not forbidden, lol. But as most people in this site are not Indonesians, their number should dilute the Indonesians, lol.

actually i even shame dont know about ka’anapali Beach, Langkawi Islands, Takabonerate Island... lol... i born east borneo, grow up on manado, and malang city... but i still miss all indonesia culture... btw, selat cendrawasih is amazing too... ok, ill fill out survey :)

East Borneo still have a lot of great beaches nearby. Bunaken is crowded, but people back then says that is is good. A little bit closer to Borneo is Togean Islands, few hours boat ride from Ampana. Ampana itself is 10 hours journey from Palu, or 1 hour using aircraft. Togean is great, they don't have cellular signals there though, feels like going back to stone age.

I know little or nothing about Indonesia but I completed your survey. I'm going to assume that some are lying on the "Monthly Income" part though. I would love to meet those six people that make over $5000 a month - especially the one who claims to make $30,000. I hope that person has a high CV and has contributed lots to this site. LOL

Lol, I also hope to meet that person!
Thanks for filling the survey!

Yeah, komodo dragon is there on Pulau Komodo, but there are huge influx of tourist there, so there is a good chance you won't see a komodo.

Yes, Langkawi is a part of Malaysia, but it is on the survey to be compared with the rest of the beaches in Indonesia.

Wow, a 14 week trip. All I got is a 14 days holiday for a year, lol. I don't know much about rock climbing, lol. My body balance is not very good. The only sport I excels at are chess, the only sports I am moderately good are swimming, lol.

Thank you for filling out the survey!
Yeah, the income is skewed towards the Western amount of income, being in Indonesia I can attest too that $2.5/month is a ton of money.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's your own fault. Bali is cheap, lol.
Maybe less creating Steam badges and Steam level and do some actual travelling?
Comment has been collapsed.
But collecting steam badges is my life purpose. jk
I just don't find Bali interesting to visit.

Lembeh is near Manado, am I right?
How is the situation there?
Comment has been collapsed.
My friend in Manado said that Lembeh is one of the "hidden beaches" in North Borneo. Bunaken is very famous back then but nowadays is beyond recovery. The corals have lost their colors, so no divers will be interested anymore.
I have never been to Lembeh before, maybe I will try it in the future, thanks for the tip!
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not for the Colors you go there, it's a muck dive, very dirty... :) But if you like nudibranch, frogfish, very uncommon deadly Blue-ringed octopus. This is best place in the word (try google it). We stayed at Kungkungan Bay Resort, very nice :)

Thank you for filling out the survey!
Just visit Indonesia, (most of the) people are friendly, lol!

Thanks for filling the survey!
Yeah, it seems like the general results will be like that too. Maldives is very very famous, around 25% national income came from tourism. Indonesia have similar number, but we have far more beaches, mountains, diving spots than Maldives, we have potential to do better.

Waikiki is very famous, though I never been there even once, lol. Ticket to USA is very expensive from here. Though I hope that someday I could visit USA though. I heard that to completely visit USA it will take months.

Hi folks.
Recently I am embarking on a research for my studies. The research is about how foreign tourists (people outside Indonesia) know about Indonesia, and what is the reason they are visiting Indonesia. The majority of our visitors came from Singapore, Australia, and lately China. The major problem for Indonesian tourism is that everybody knows about Bali, but only a small number of them know about other places in Indonesia, which may be more interesting than Bali. As an islands nation, we have 13,000+ islands, thousands of beaches and possible diving spots, yet only Bali get the spotlight for foreign tourism in Indonesia.
On the other hand, I also run a parallel research on how Indonesians themselves know about other places beside Bali. Similar with foreign tourists, most Indonesians also visit Bali for holiday, but not visiting other places. To be exact, southern areas of Bali such as Kuta and Sanur are tightly packed with people, while a short one hour drive to the north will land you at Padang padang, a beach famous for surfing activities, yet only have smaller number of visitors. A few hours drive again to the north, there will be lots of other places, beaches, and other spots.
Thus, this particular survey have the goal, whether it is confirmed that foreign tourists have limited knowledge about other places beside Bali, or rejected that particular hypothesis.
