Ohh, well they have another account that pretends to be your friend, and then they message you, you trade them the item and they run away with it. Or something like that. I forget how it works, it's common when trading items. (I think).

Unusual hat is more or less TF2 version of golden knife. More or less since TF2 has tons of different "knives" (unusual hats, golden weapons, unusual weapons, maybe even more stuff I don't remember right now).

AFAIK yes - TF2 crates used "same %chance for all items except for 1% for unusuals", while CSGO has "you mostly get blues" and then there's much smaller chance for knife.
But Valve added CSGO-cases with weapon skins to TF2, which might use different % for unusuals there.

It's possible, though it's a scam anyways, I usually don't take them seriously once they say something about "trade it to a trusted friend so I can check your item".
