I bought Tabletop Simulator off a third party on g2a or kinguin at the start of December and it still shows up in steamgift giveaways I can enter. Should I be concerned? Is it potentially a trial license? Is there a way to know if it is or not time restrained on Steam?

Thanks!

Probably it was a trial version or a beta version, considering you bought in a grey seller and too much time has passed.

Basically, you got swindled

Did you resync with SG?

There shouldn't be a trial, sync.

I had this issue, too a few times. One time with a key I definitely bought on Steam. Hid the game manually.

Go to the Steam page for the game, and look if it says "Profile features limited". Those games you must hide manually in SG, as the system can't tell if you have the game or not.

If the game doesn't say so, then you got a trial/beta version, e.g. like with Tumblestone.

You can go here -> https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/

And check the key activation for that specific game . If it was BETA or something of the sort it Should say so there

It might take a while to load if u got a bunch of games .

Also might want to Sync your account if you havent done it in a while ( https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/profile ) ... im not sure how often SG does it for you automatically >.<

that's not a surefire way really to determine things, since pretty much all keys developer give out or provide to other sources (like Alienware Arena) are gonna show up there with the words 'for beta testing' while they are actually full retail versions. It still might be interesting though to see what it says for his particular TabletopSimulator copy ... lets look what steamdb says exists for this game:

39684 Berserk Games Developer Comp CD Key 5 years ago
39686 Tabletop Simulator for Beta Testing CD Key 5 years ago

for e.g. I'm pretty sure Tabletop Simulator for Beta Testing is a 100% full retail version, not a beta.

But if his activated version would actually show "Berserk Games Developer Comp" then he might have gotten a version, that is not the actual retail version, but some developer build that might have limited features (but it also could have the same features as the full game, we don't know) and make steamgifts not recognize ownership (because it's a different version from that in the steam store).

what does it mean if it says Gift/Guest Pass

Most straightforward interpretation'd be that the gifter bought the four-pack of TS and gifted you one of the copies.

Here's some additional reading:

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/624076027591730284/

both guestpass and gift are classed within the same title when added to your account

if your item you have activated or added to your library is with a expiration to it, then it is a pass that was given to you, not a full game

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/tabletop-playground-4-pack

By purchasing the 4-pack you get giftable copies of the game in the form of Steam keys to share with up to 4 people

Ah, indeed. I confirmed the existence of the four-pack for TS properly, but messed up on the storefront association.
Unfortunately, all the storefronts that list the four-pack of TS indicate it's a standard setup, where the gift copies go into inventory.
So unless the OP misused "key" in their explanation, the straightforward interpretation of the matter just went out the window, and we'll hafta give the matter another run-through.

For the most part it means actual steam gifts either sent to your inventory or via email (but always bought within the steam store).

In a few cases, games show up as gift/guest pass, when they were received via a 3rd party website (usually the developers') where you received the game for free 'automatically' when you have linked your steam account with their website.

However I have many license entries of 'Gift/Guest Pass' back from 2014/2013 of which I know they were from humble bundles. Nowadays these would be registered as retail, but back then apparently not.

Any way, "Gift/Guest Pass" should be the real thing (not a trial, unless it says so in the name of the game under licenses).

join the lootboy and delete giveaway group. their best bet for risky keys . assuming the winner sticks to roup rules you wont b unished for a bad key which is maybe a 10% chance for the cheapest ones

Generally speaking, just going to the store page and seeing if it gives you a Play prompt should be enough to tell if you have the store page associated content, though it's possible a misconfiguration might cause an exception to that. That said, here's a method which should theoretically be able to quickly confirm that you do have that storefront listed version:

Add the Tabletop Simulator game to your cart, and click "Purchase for Myself".
If it moves to the payment confirmation screen, then you don't own it.
On the other hand, if you do own it, you'll get this prompt:

As an even more reliable option, if you go into Steam Support (Help-> Steam Support within Client) you can easily tell the APPID just by right clicking on the support page for the game in question, copying url, and pasting it into browser. Cross-checking the APPID that shows in your address bar against SteamDB should get you the correct game association.

Gift copies and guest passes are both super weird in their configuration, though, so I can't say for sure if there's any way to tell full version Guest Passes apart aside from Guest Pass expiration dates showing for the game. Non full version ones should theoretically be determinable by the methods I mentioned.

Corrections welcomed. :)
