One of my PCs has an i5 2500k, the other has an AMD FX-6300. In my opinion, they have almost the same performance (the i5 is better in every aspect, but not for much), but the FX was a lot cheaper.

I'm currently using Athlon X4 860K Quad-Core (FM2+)
16GB Ram and Radeon R9 270

AMD processor were cheap, motherboard with better features were cheaper than most Intel's board.
No doubt performance is sub par since Core2Duo era.
In time comes, any processors and graphic cards will soon become obsolete in a few years.

Intel makes higher quality processors, but AMD is much more affordable.
