Does IGN deserve your money this month or is it better to buy Fanatical bundles instead?

View Results
[Recurring subscription] Humble really improved their Wingspan with this lineup after last monthโ€™s fiasco.
[New subscription] I love this bundle. Iโ€™m too lazy to clean my own room but I am more than happy to full-on renovate in House Flipper. Just looking at these titles my heart races at 120 BPM.
[Maybe subscribe] Thankfully, this is a pretty decent comeback but Iโ€™m still not convinced that itโ€™s worth it.
[Cancelling / Pausing] I keep pausing and pausing it over, waiting for something better to come up but at this point I'm just full of WRATH & ready to just cancel it entirely.
[Turnip ๐Ÿฅ”] Can't afford it this month without engaging in Tax Evasion. ;_;
[Complaint] Why can they make so much better weekly bundles and come up with such a disappointing mix for a Choice? Drip-feeding Zachtronics games is seriously boring.

10? Really... Still could be worse...
Barely 6$ worth of value for 3 somewhat interesting ones

I tried it but i found it a bit repetitive also the view from plane is always obstructed by ship controls.
it feels like all you do is semi target enemies and then double space for two missile firing, rinse repeat for every target.

All three games You mentioned were on my wishlist. Some of the other games look interesting too, especially that one of them is overwhelmingly positive on Steam - Timelie. And this game looks really nifty. For me, it's a bummer that there's only 10 games, but they are still good games. Better than last month with rebundles lol.

What is difficult to understand? The person wants DRM, and doesn't regard a DRM-free game as a real game.

What's so weird about that.

Digital games in one place = no unnecessary plastic from boxed edition + not scattered around 345672345 places. Steam has all features build in and I don't want to play "hide n seek" with features to find a place to review game or so. I have reviews in same place, as guides, I have workshop content, game stats are counted, friends too, I can play with friends remotely or cast my game screen on almost any device I want, even stream it to public. I can see achievement, get cards, get more money to buy more game (and yes, I've bought many games just from cards).

It's weird that somebody wants to play meta - to find where are their games. Or doesn't like features, that are useful. I can play right now a game I don't own, because someone who has it can invite me via remote play together. Local co-op but online. Tell me one reason why I wouldn't like to have that. I have all support on Steam I wouldn't get anywhere else.

You can like Steam and what it provides (I do too), but you don't even regard DRM-free games as games. Utterly bizarre. You can also put your non-Steam games into Steam if you like and run as you would any other game.

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not bizarre at all. Pirated games are available to everyone and pirated means DRM free, so those games lose value. Meanwhile games with DRM aren't available to everyone (paid games at least), so they become exclusive, more of a prestige thing to own.

DRM-free doesn't mean pirated, so... err, what? Lots of jumping through hoops there mate.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm giving you a different perspective why a DRM free game might be valued less than a DRM game due to piracy making DRM free games available for no cost.

But since you want to discuss that point, for all intents and purposes, a DRM free version of a game is the same one as a pirated game. You can start and play the game without being forced to go online. When downloaded, there is no difference between DRM free and pirated games. The only advantage buying a DRM free game has is support, if patches, bug fixes come, you are guaranteed to have them, while there might not be a pirated version available of the new patch. I don't think I'm jumping through lots of hoops, it's a rather small hoop to jump.

It's fine for liking a platform for its service as an extra.
Though:

I'm giving you a different perspective why a DRM free game might be valued less than a DRM game due to piracy making DRM free games available for no cost.

It's sad that you "value" a game not for how it is, but for for it's availability.
Is DRM-free the same as pirating (besides pirating is technically illegal)? If you pirate the game, then why would you pay for a version wth DRM? If not, then why do you even care that others pirate it?

I guess then you don't want gifts either, because you get it for free, just like the people who steal it - so it loses value, and the prestige of owning it.

"You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis."
And neither you are your exclusive, prestige-smelling Steam library. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

Comment has been collapsed.

You have it wrong, I do value a game for what it is, I enjoy the experiences some games offer. But it's also true that I add value to other games because of achievement hunting.
I'm not going to justify pirating, it is illegal. I'm just saying how it is, being from one of the poorer countries and seeing it happen. My reason for buying a game, even after pirating it. is because I hold it in high regard. I personally don't care if others pirate games.

Have you ever noticed how you treat money differently if they are given to you and money that you worked hard for? It's easier to disregard a gift because it was given to you for free, there is less of a personal attachment.

It is true that I'm not my Steam library, but it offers me fun, so I stick with it, simple as that.

They are the same games, but scattered around. I don't like having things in multiple places. I have GOG games, I have Origin and Uplay games as well. But it's nuisance that I have to install whole launcher just to play Assassin's Creed on Uplay, even though I have it on Steam or The Sims, WARP or some other games on Origin. I don't want to go to Humble Website and search for game I want to play. I want to have it right there, in my library. I don't like DRM-free games, because they are just like unnecessary scattering.

Yes, I can use SOME non-Steam games on Steam. I've done that. But for an instance, The Sims 3 used to work with Steam UI, then it stopped. I don't know if it works again or not. Also to have DRM-free game on Steam, I have to download it and install it first. Instead of having one button to do that right there. And what if I don't want to download a game onto my drive from Humble, but then I got that will to play that game. I have to go to Humble website, download it (where is probably limited download transfer), then install it, then add to Steam as non-Steam game etc. Unnecessary annoyance. Make so I can directly hit Install on my Steam, to download and install it and I reconsider the usefulness of DRM-free games. But right now they are not convenient to use.

And Humble Originals? If they are still that poor quality, then yes, I definitely disregard them. Humble have a lot of money but they are making beginner games like this, which solo developers can nail as well. I've seen free games made by beginner and or solo devs that are as good or even better than those DRM-frees from Humble. Also there is plenty of similar games on Steam as well. Unless those Humble Originals have higher quality that they had few years ago.

Steam is convenient to use not only because it has tons of great features no other games, launcher and platforms have. But also because it's easy to just install the game. Which is why I prefer launcher over non-DRM game in general. If not Steam, I would prefer it on Origin, maybe on Uplay, although Origin likes to crash and Uplay is generally terrible. because they can't even make the redeeming working as it should, which makes Your game crashing multiple times, because DLC is stored on wrong version of the very same game, then when they fix it for You after 3 weeks of support, then Your 90%+ save is corrupted, because You've played wrong version of the game for the frickin whole time, but You couldn't know it. And their support treats You like an idiot, when they are ones to blame. But except that, I still prefer Uplay than DRM-free game. Because I have game right in the launcher.DRM-free is not really that cool. And panicking that "one day Steam will be gone and all Your games will be lost" is ridiculous either (and some people seriously say this). This isn't happening anytime soon. I would probably die before that would happen.

Launcher games, especially Steam ones are far superior for those reasons.

So don't, put the DRM-free games into Steam and run them from there if you want, then they won't be scattered.

You CAN have it in your library, download it, install it, play.

Beginner games like... Wingman?

Yeah, I can't respond to the rest of that, as if DRM is a good thing. The games don't crash and need updates, they just work.

Have You even read my post. If You have a way to put a DRM-free game into Steam, so I can deinstall it and reinstall it at will, without downloading and doing anything else, then sure, why not. Maybe. But there is no way that will work.

So basically no, I can't just add it to library. I can't.

You think crash = DRM? You must be naive. Crashes existed far far before any DRM ever existed. Steam games never crashed on me because of Steam. But because of the game. Like Prototype, that just doesn't work with more than 4 cores. It just won't. Regardless if You would play it on Steam or not. I've had many games from CDs that just crashed to desktop. But You are telling lies about "no crash" because DRM-free? That doesn't work like that.

And You are right. DRM-free games doesn't have updates. That's why old games are so extremely buggy. Because how to patch game that is on CD? Or that isn't connected to launcher that would download the updates for You? You are very naive. GTA San Andreas needed fixes, because of bugs. But it was a game on CD. So how to patch it? Gothic is extremely bugged game.

Half-Life 2 had been updated when needed many times. They polished the gameplay, they fixed multi core low performance, that even I encountered on my old laptop. Older laptop had stable 30 fps or something. Newer had seconds per frame. Reason - multi core processors was not supported. What happened later? Bugfix from Valve. Fixed. You can't have those on CDs and have to look for it Yourself with DRM-free digital games. Nobody tells You there is a fix. You have to check Yourself.

DRM is far superior in every aspect. Being paranoid about BUT LICENSESSSSS!!! is pathetic. I prefer to have my games cheap (less than $1 for AAA titles only for Steam is nice), functional and easy to access. Only Steam can provide that. Without any crashed or performance issues. You want bugs, go to Uplay.

You're absolutely right in principle, but I do feel (I know feel is an abused verb these days) the same as the person you replied to. I do not want DRM, I despise DRM, but if I buy a digital product like a game I want it to be something more than what I would get from piracy. I don't just want the zip file, I want some value added. I want to bre able to get the zip file (ideally DRM-free) but I also want a platform around it.

I'm not denying it's a bit fucked up. On the other hand, Steam is not DRM. Steam is a delivery platform and marketplace with an optional DRM API. Many games on Steam are actually DRM-free. Not the big ones usually, of course.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Try playing your library without being online; it's DRM, even if it's not as strict as it can be. Now also try copying those files to a friend's computer and try running the game. If it doesn't work, it has DRM.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, yes, that's what I said. There are games sold and delivered on Steam that are completely DRM-free. You can double click the .exe and they run, offline or not; you can copy them to a friend's computer and they run. DRM is optional on Steam and Steam itself is not DRM.

Of course most games on Steam do implement some form of DRM, but that was not my point.

It piss me each month more off, special because they don't answered my, very direct message about that subject.

Sooo, complaining about paying full price (that is still the cheapest, grandfathered-in one for), complaining about not getting a discount, throwing in the partner card.
Then complain more about not having a special way with them, emphasis on being upset about them not replying to your direct complains.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Complaining about the fact that they treat partners and long time HB choice subscribers, obviously, worse as fake new accounts (aka multiaccounts) of people....
And yes, i expect that a company answer my complains and Questions about different things.

The normal support answered with "we sended your message to a higher staff member" and that was all i got.

Maybe not the smartest idea when someone think about ending his sub.
At least not when they want to earn something.

Maybe that is the normal acting in your country... but not in mine.

Ps.: Paying $12 isn't the cheapest, when a lot of people pay only $6.

To be honest, I don't care too much about it. I pay the $12 when I'm getting something more out of it. I can buy the one game on sale at some point if I really want it. The $6 coupon would just mean I might get it for the one game. But if I like a few games in the bundle, it's still worth it at 12. I don't complain.

It's safe so long as you trade with people that have a good track record. The fewer trades someones done the more risky it is to trade with them.

Well it depends what you mean by "safe", since the people with the highest number of trades are mostly resellers and retraders preying on newly registered members with hugely unfair offers... Sure, they'll deliver a working key, but you'll have been screwed nonetheless.

MY best advice to newbies would be to just decline every single incoming offer and only send their own instead until they get a proper feel of what a fair offer is.
