it must be like all the 'up to -90%' sales with a single item 90% off (that's always -90% anyway), everything lower. there has to be one starfield, payday3, etc. in there for legal reasons (though why would some random law stop these fuckers?), then even with all the idiots buying them by the dozen, it may or may not get included in somebody's batch (and again, they might be fiddling with percentages, setting big items to 0.00001% and shoveling the rest into everybody's cart).

There's only so many games I would want, so it's too big of a gamble. I prefer to know what I am spending my money on. I would do it with this list of games if it was only $5 for 20 keys because that would be good value to just give the games away here. Maybe $6 at the most. I guess I'm just spoiled from the golden years of bundles from around 2012-2019.

and i'm thinking if this "mystery" technique was a thing, years ago, but can only remember something at Groupees (way, way cheaper).
or that, maybe, these mystery bundles are a sign of the bundle's decline in general...
but, frankly, if i were quite new, here around, with a low SG level/small Steam Library i really wouldn't resist the temptation ๐ฝ

I remember when Groupees did 50 cent bundles. The only mystery bundle I can remember from back then was the Humble Monthly when they wouldn't tell you what was in it and you could only get it if you preordered. I never did that either.

Many (at least half a dozen or so) groupees bundles had "grab bags" with semi-random games in them. Like these:

Then one could consider the "preorderable" bundles as mystery ones, or the Be Mine bundles that I think you could preorder, and some sketches were hints for its content, not always identifiable, or a sure way of knowing what you'll get.

I don't remember the grab bags, probably because I never bought them. I definitely remember the Be Mine bundles though. Those were kind of fun. You could still buy those after the bundle was revealed but you got a cheaper price if you preordered it. They had a live chat where you could talk about the bundles and often when people identified the games correctly from the hints, a support member would confirm that the game is in the bundle. I do remember buying a bunch of those after some of the games got confirmed and knew I would want it.

I've had a couple problematic giveaways, due to region-restricted games from the last 2 mystery bundles. I've never had that happen with mystery keys until now.
IDK if your geographical location affects/changes the restrictions. I'm in NA, and this is my experience:
Iron Fisticle - Wouldn't work in China, despite there being fully global keys available elsewhere. I tried a re-roll, and was told by support that I would either have to get a replacement, or get permission to delete the giveaway. This morning I bought a replacement from the grey market and it worked just fine.
Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG - Had 2 copies, and neither worked (Taiwan & Russia). I will assume that these Fanatical keys have the same semi-ridiculous restrictions as the Humble Bundle keys. what I do is load up fanatical, find the game page then load the list where it activated, scroll to bottom and then hold the up arrow so it speeds through the region lock(stop if I ever see red). Alot have no region locks, some do.
gets even more fun on some games, like the batman arkham collection, from what I could tell Humble Bundle has keys no region restrictions and fanaticals do.
can always just get ultra lazy and region lock questionable giveaways to USA/CA to save yourself any frustration.

I could have sworn mystery bundles had to have region-free keys. I know there's been very rare exceptions over the years with Patch Quest & Dice Legacy, but I know for a fact that Iron Fisticle has always been region-free (gave away about 25 copies of it on my old SG account). Encased makes more sense to me, what with how their keys were with that Humble Choice bundle, but still. I'm absolutely surprised this is happening.
Having said all that, I do appreciate your information. I'll definitely be more cautious with these mystery bundle giveaways in the future.

I am in NA region, and I just went through the region restriction on the Fanatical page. This bundle is heavily region-locked and cannot be activated in 154 regions. Wish I had just checked the countries the games can be activated in instead.
