But what about steam search, i think there are some decent games you looking for in between.
(I am sure there are some good tank games at lower prices too but if you want something really good i think some of the more expensive ones are best (though maybe useful to wait for a sale).

Looking for affordable tanks!
I would recommend War Thunder training mode, the driving controls are pretty basic, but the tank's movement feels pretty good.

Steel Beasts used to be the thing back in 2000 and something for hardcore tank simulation. But it doesn't run that well (rather at all) on Windows 7 or 10.

Steel Beasts (www.esimgames.com) is still being actively developed. Current version even requires 64b Windows 7, 8 or 10. But it isn't exactly cheap. One can buy it with a hardware USB license key (125$) or in a time-based subscription model (about 40$ per year or 10$ per month).

There are not a whole lot of tank sims out there, probably because tanks are surprisingly un-exciting to actually drive :P You've got limited vision, and depending on the kind of simulation, you would have a relatively limited set of things to do.
You've got Iron Warriors: T-72 Tank Command on steam. Then you've also got the more hardcore simulator Panzer Elite on GOG, and also Steel Armor: Blaze of War (also on steam)
Oh, and I almost forgot: Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942
I can't promise that any of these are good. I've only really played Panzer Elite, and it was not my cup of tea.

Red Orchestra 2? The store page shows it as multiplayer only, but my library gives me a "Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad - Single Player" apart from the multiplayer.

Hello, dear steamgifters. Can you suggest any good singleplayer tank sim (modern or WW2, arcade or hardcore, not really matter)? Yes, I know about Google. No, I don't like results it offers (because it's mostly MMO like WOT or games where you can drive tanks for 1 mission like COD)
